ladder division of some sort. 1v1, 2v2, custom only, ladder games. i have no idea how a premade vs random can be counted for rank but hey they ai's in on multiplayer games and count for rank so who knows.
favor items balanced. i dont know why they balanced cost into the equation. the cheap items cost less but a lesser effect which makes sense but does not work they way the game is now. majority of these items suck because they are designed to suck... make them all 1000 favor and all balanced evenly if this any of this is making sense. sensesense. sense.

he means you have 8 people in the lobby, and they are randomly assigned to either side once you start.

--win/loss stats, at the very least, viewable in lobby
--favor items: I like the single-price idea with more balanced items, but I would go for a two-tier structure with a set of items available at 1000 favor and another set at 2000 favor. You would have to make the 1000-favor items attractive and unique enough to get selected on occasion. Maybe the 2000-favor items could be more class specific (that is, specific to generals or assassins). I dunno.

Better balanced items, for example the mana drain gloves or desperate boots. Some items are worthless and some items are essential.
