I've seen a decent regulus build on http://demigod.wikia.com/wiki/Regulus_Harassment_DPS_%28Guide%29 that is based on angelic fury for dps and enhanced attributes to maintain mana, but haven't had much luck at all in muliplayer with this, especially on tiny creep-poor maps. Are there any builds for Regulus that make it worth skipping the use of snipe to push DGs off flags and pick off wounded runners?
In single player this build does massive DPS starting when I get the mage slayer for 8k, but in multiplayer I don't make it that far, particularly if there is another Regulus on the other team who does have snipe. I had better luck just picking random skills and using snipe.
that build wont work mainly because everyone stacks the **** out of hp and armor making auto-attack damage negligible compared to ability damage which is un-mitigated.snipe is an excellent support skill, meaning the enemy will never be able to take on a member of your team 1v1 because you can snipe from the other side of the map to make it 2v1.but if the other team are noobs, don't get any armor vs an auto-attacker, and let you get a mageslayer, you will prolly be able to go on a rampage.
Yeah just tried a random build based on snipe and did much better, 6 kills and 3 deaths... skipped AF entirely and didn't notice it was gone. I think the build I found on the wiki would only work on a large map where the other side lets me outlevel them on creeps uncontested.
Auto-attack builds usually fail vs good teams (at least I never got them to work well enough). The only thing I ever really got to work was mine/slow regulus with some additional hp items. Atleast Snipe I you should always get, there's almost always a situation where it is useful: assist/kill
I do two different reg build, and one of em doent use snipe.
I get mines first, then range, then stats or main. I focus on mines, maim, and stats till i get plenor and the 1750 helm. That takes care of manna problems. The I max Angelic furry to increase dps, and it gives you AOE in addition to mines to handle creeps.
For favor its usually poison dagger. This build focuses on Regs AOE damage and slows. It also focused on high auto attack dmg, and a fast attack rate. That combined with the gloves that give you a chance to crit, and you should be ok.
To be honest its actually more a support build. I find it nice becasue it slows the heck out of your enemy and makes you obnovious and hard to get. It also make it good late game to hold off mass creeps, and has decent burst damage potental.
And lasly it works well to control minion builds due to its aoe.
Yes, I agree the best Regulus builds for multiplayer are snipe or mine-based. AF is a nice bit of extra DPS when you can afford it, but at the start mines do just as much damage plus knockback, and don't continuously drain mana.
I've started getting mines, then scope, then snipe, then enhanced attributes at the start. After that, I build up whichever line seems most useful, which is generally snipe for assists and to push away enemy DGs who are successfully driving toward our portal or contesting the middle.
I have had success with a snipeless regulus build, goes something like this.
I get blade of the serpant/poison dagger as my favor item. Angelic, mines, maim, range, mines etc.... It focus's on slow with maim, shrapnel mines, and wyrmskin gloves, poison dagger and does extra damage with angelic. Anyway try it out you might like it.
Good idea, I'll give that a go. I find lately that I do the brunt of my damage early on with mines, which I had ignored at first. I still get one level of snipe just to have the extra range, although I haven't taken Angelic in a while now.
in a 3v3, especially on cataract where 1v1 dominance can be important, AF dps is a decent build imo. at the start i get mard's hammer + gauntlets of brutality + lvl 1 AF for +90 damage. u can dominate those flags early where not alot of ppl buy the armor item. i lvl scope so that ppl feel the pain well before i get in their range and they might not even engage cause you hit too hard. also, u can kite them to the point where they cant engage anymore. the AF is pretty good on taking out nearby priest also. mana regen isnt too bad as long as ur not constantly shooting, for example, turn it off if ur picking off a tower and cant sustain the mana cost. mana pots go a long way also.
however, on larger maps where u are further away from the security of a tower and have to cover lots of distance without putting urself in danger, dont go dps if u dont have good exit strats. Also, with 4v4, u usually fight more than 1 and u are their primary target. so while ur running away from their range, ur not attacking, therefore not contributing the damage ur team needs to even the fight.
the reason u usually dont get snipe when u have a dps build is cause of the mana cost.
its almost always worth skiping it. in pro games few people play one on one. if at any point you need to retreat then someone will port in on your side or someone will come to your aid. snipe is meh at best b/c it requires you already be winning 1v1 AND that they have to be down to such a low health that its only really good for stealing a kill or getting an assist.
further more auto attack dmg is a fuck ton. people dont know how to use range harrassment properly and end up getting killed but if you know how you can easily wittle down their health safely then push over and kill them. long story short, snipe is only good at low levels or vs nubs
I think just one level is always worth it, if just for the added assists/kill steals. Running back to the flag or to shop, it never hurts to drop a snipe down when you will see the mana crystal in a few seconds anyways, and that 500 health you took off was essentially free - and most games you'll get at least one or two added assists added to the team, at the minimum - and that one time it gets a runner, it's worth it. And it's worth it, if nothing else, because just the fact that you have it makes everyone on the other team have to disengage 500 HP earlier then they would otherwise, giving your team a much needed boost. (Much needed, of course, because the rest of them have to carry the reg )
That being said, SocialistRyan is the only reg I've ever played with that I've felt was carrying his weight, and he rarely uses snipe.
Regulus is a good support and utility demigod, but like Sarmis says, you rarely see a regulus carry his weight. Often he can make a big difference with well placed snipes and mines, but personally I find it very easy to beat a lone regulus. I play Oak.
i usually go mine based reg build because at max level, it does bigger numbers than snipe, and you can bait people into them, and they are effective for tower killing. often in beginning i get mine lvl 1 to farm the little guys, then get range, then snipe, then mines, ect, always maxing mines as soon as i can. often il let my health get a little on the low side(dangerous i know), then let them chase me through a mine field, use a combat health, and chase em down or snipe em dead. or just toss them on top of people. whatever floats your boat
since snipe is available at the beginning its useful in early game when everybody has around 3k health (with favour and simple health item). they have to retreat earlier for that they have to fear an early death otherwise (around ~15% of full hp!). then very soon most ppl get better hp items but the damage of the skill does not increase that much. there is really not much difference between making ~450 or ~650 dmg then. i dont play regulus very often but imo snipe becomes more and more unimportant at higher levels.
if you take snipe at the first level its ok and it can make a difference, but only use it on enemys far away. if the enemy stands right in front of you its just senseless.
There's a pretty big stigma growing that noobs play regulus, and I think it is because of skills like snipe. Noobish reg players tend to follow the same pattern, or have a lot in common. Choose from:
Swift Anklet
+damage Gear
Snipe, maxed
Snipe against people in same lane, just for DPS
No Mines
No Mark
Angelic Fury
Most of the time thinking that if they can just get a bit more gold and items, they'll become this incredible assassin... except they don't get much gold from kills like they did vs the computer, because human players are not going to let you just shoot the crap out of them. Further more, their lack of HP means they die very quickly, especially to beast or Erebus.
lol so many noobs who wrote shitty useless replies... I really really would love to post my build

GAME OVER
p.s. regulus is not a TANK CHARACTER just shoot, and back, repeat. its for absolutely experienced players in teamplay
use it, and you will ROCK
for items, get scaled helm, banded, or 400 glove
and unbreakable boots, battlecrown, 1750 helm like mana heavy items
Humm, you inspire me TB_MasteR to give this a try. Staff of Renual is the one item that I have never
really tested on Regulus. I use it a lot in my TB and Rook builds but for the most part I have stayed away
from this one for frear of gimping my poor regi on hp.
The real hell to pay on this build comes from when you have to make room in your inventory for a
mageslayer; essentially putting you behind by about 800 hp which is huge around mid-eirly late game.
ok at no piont can your character ever 1v1 anyone. meaning that your useless after cata. or at least that shit build isn't doing much help for anyone snipe doesn't help after about lvl 7 and mines dont help (unless your creep farming) after lvl 10. and why on earth you'd get stats with a reg without angel is beyond me. so what you can do 6+ extra dmg per? just throw all those wasted points into angel for more dmg. even so with that build you'll have no follow up to mines and your gonna need to throw some heavy gold into mana items at the late game meaning yoru speed or your health will suffer and reg is not a fast character to start with. the only thing you can do if you see another demigod is run, meaning that your constantly going to be needing someone else to come help you and porting into anotehr demigods fight you can only help with mark. long story short. any other character is better (rook, qot and tb excluded). and you'll have a ok at best early game.
Please refrain from posting if you don't know what you are talking about. I have 1v1 more than my share of UB, Sedna's, Rooks . . . to prove your statement wrong. If u suck in general give blood of the fallen a try for once.
So your great response is a personal attack and then anecdotes? *applauds* I love seeing good dialog taken to entirely new levels. What's next, a godwins law?
Reg can't 1v1 a Sedna, Erebus, or UB that knows what they are doing. Anyone who is actually decent at this game knows that. Perhaps it might, over time, be able to kite one down if they are drunk, but they'll never be able to hold a flag or a portal, which is what late game will often come down to.
well luckily you haven't proven anything. taking your word that you've been able to 1v1 some nubs palying ub doesn't make for a strong case. and sense you've avoided talking about any of my arguments against your nub build i have to assume you agree with them.
learn2argument, kthxbye
"Reg can't 1v1 a Sedna, Erebus, or UB..."
I have a very hard time against these three, especially Erebus (who ignores towers) and UB (who can spit almost as far as I can shoot and does 1.5x as much damage in melee, at least). Anyone have pointers vs. these DGs as Regulus? I'm most interested in how to make a go of it 1v1 for instance if I get cornered and don't have tp scrolls. All I can really do vs UB is soak the spit, drink a potion, then kite him around until he gets bored and runs away.
I don't really have a problem against Sedna because if she gets overextended she doesn't have the speed to get away from me and can't keep herself alive forever without help.
I'm starting to agree that Regulus is really for DPS and anti-creep support as he lacks the hp and, at low levels, DPS to really take on most DGs. I do pretty well vs. slower DGs like The Rook and Oak, however.
There are no pointers. Reg is a weak DG, and almost never used in competetive play, and basically never used by the winning side in competetive play. DG comes down to basically four demigods - UB, Erebus, Sedna, and Oak. Rook and TB and Reg can be used in some situations, but typically using them gives you a disadvantage. QoT is almost never useful.
The problem with Sedna is that all a Sedna has to do is stick her bishops on you, let them whittle you away, while she ignores you. If you want to take the time to auto-attack the bishops, she can just pop them out every 45 seconds. Later in games when towers are down, all you can do is try to kite and outdamage the bishops heals.
ok get 25 more damage instead of 550 80 range super damage which gives you at lease 3 kills in 1 game
lol why you guys would like to play 1v1 demigod fight?have you ever won 1v1 or have you killed double smite at 3v3 fight??
as soon as you get the shitty angel's fury at level 1, you are obviously noob which waste 1000mana in 20 seconds for 500 more damage.
play single mode 20 times of regulus and argue with me, ok?
have you ever get a kill with shitty chasing build with 200 damage? yes, but you die right after that.
here is one strategy for you SocialistRyan.
put 6 mines behind you and be sure enemy doesn't see that.
attack enemy and mark betrayer him.
and run.
and he eats 6 mines
he runs
you snipe
you kill
