Hello everyone.
Just wanted to share the trailer for Guild Wars 2.
For me it had gone off my radar untill today. Hopefully Impulse will get it.
Enjoy:

Looks rather um...generic actually =/
Though it looks like the Charr are now allies?
I'm not so sure if the Charr are allies but atleast they're playable now
I hated Guild Wars tbh. I hope it's better this time around (atleast it seems to be 1000 visually better)
Guild Wars was stunning visually when it came out, and had a great 8 on 8 PvP system in Beta. The game then broke down as different strategies became "Op." What I really liked about GW, though, was that it had a max level of 20, and so the game was more about competiting then it was about mindlessly gaming. It was the only game I know where you could jump in with a premade level 20 character and have a blast.
Last I heard, Guild Wars 2 is scrapping that identity and going for a mindless slog through multiple levels, with a well-built PvP system. Thats why it will stay off my radar, but I will still see what the reviews say when it comes out.
Guild Wars 2 will have the kind of extensive character advancement appropriate to a persistent-world RPG. Our goal is to avoid forcing players into the grind-based gameplay that too often accompanies a high level cap.
Also, to allow players the freedom to play together even if their friends are at a much higher (or lower) level, we are planning to implement a strong sidekick system, similar to that used in City of Heroes™.
We're applying this same philosophy to competitive play. Players will be able to engage in organized, balanced PvP (similar to GvG in the original Guild Wars) without first leveling up characters, finding equipment, and unlocking skills. While inside the organized PvP area, all characters will be the same power level and will have access to the same equipment.
(emphasis added)
Last I heard, they were thinking of having no level cap, but making it so that levelling past a certain point gave diminishing returns. I don't know if they're still doing that, but I don't think they would abandon their niche when there are so few good, casual-friendly MMO games out there.
i dont care for this...
Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO? Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world
Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world
usually that means you shell out cash like crazy. guess i will stick to sins!
Guild wars had no subscription, neither will 2. It's been confirmed
Looks like Guild Wars with a few more trees... they should probably jump ship on that engine, they risk being left behind... unless there are some serious differences from GW1.
*disappointed*
You people are nuts lol. I thought GW was one of the most amazing games ever made! It required creativity and skill to create various builds, especially ones that synergize as a team. The PvE content was extremely challenging when you really got to the juicy parts. The best part of it was the 8 skill builds and cap of level 20 and no rediculous armor and weapon drops. almost everything was equal except for the players mind.
Sorry Stardock this game is going to own my life (((((
Wow!
I've always been impressed by ArenaNet's art/design team, but this game looks brilliant. I would buy it for the environments alone, but I know that it will be a fantastic game. Guild Wars is a wonderful title that remains unique today (the mission elements and network technology, namely). I am excited to see what these ex-Blizzard hotshots can deliver with the sequel.
I would love to see NCsoft sign with Impulse. They already sell games through D2D and Steam, so I see no reason for them to shun Stardock.
Also, Q&A with ArenaNet tonight over at IGN:

As a GW 1 fan, my opinion may (alright, IS) biased, but I am really looking forward to this game. I am a casual gamer, who doesnt wish to put five hundred hours into a game just to be considered decent. I enjoy games to have fun, and GW allowed me to do that. I was actually starting to doubt GW2 was even being made until this trailer, due to the large lapse of time since their last serious update. Boy, I dont think I've ever been so happy to be proven wrong. I hope this game wil be just as good (or even better) than GW1 was to me. Only time will tell really, but I'm rooting for it.
Also, one of the first things I'm doing when Elemental comes out is mod a Charr race for my own personal use.
For those too lazy to read the IGN interview, here are a few interesting tidbits, paraphrased for brevity:
So there you have it, the Readers' Digest of the IGN interview.
With the PvP apparently although you will still be usign your PVE character it will get buffed to max level and items wil be buffed to max stats in PvP outposts - so although you can't make max PvP characters right off the hat technically it seems that you could make PvE characters that were de facto max PvP characters right off the hat.
The event system sounds like an upgraded version of Warhammer's Public quests, only events seem to have an actual impact on the world beyond "now we have to wait for it to restart to do it again". If so, then I say bring on the events!
i knew gw didnt, but it wasnt a persistent world was it? i always wanted to get it.
if gw2 has no fees, then it would be a sucess.
It wont have fees. The website makes this PAINFULLY clear
GW 1 wasn't persistant, GW2 will be. Perhaps the largest gripe of my GW experiance is going away...
