I was wondering when will you post gameplay videos(especially of combat) on gametrailers.com?
Supreme Commander 2 is pre-pre-alpha and it already has gameplay videos.
I am actually really excited for this game because it sounds like it will merge the best elements of King's Bounty: The Legend and Civilization 4, but screenshots don't really tell anything.
Also it would be nice to know if it will have high-production values.
It will have high-production values, but more importantly, based on other Stardock games, it will have a ton of developer support after launch.
Only thing I found so far:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/elementalwarofmagic/video/6206661/gdc-2009-elemental-war-of-magic-walk-through
They haven't advertised it much or any, I thought it is a side project, not the next biggest game.
P.S.
there is no HD I could find
The gamespot one is from over six months ago, the graphics are terrible then (as Frogboy points out) since they had barely started to get going on doing up the graphics (no shadows etc).
They will start advertising properly when they have stuff of sufficient quality to show.
It's looking like August 2010 is a possibility though, and I'm sure the rest of the team would enjoy some extra polish time The sexier we can get the game, the more mainstream appeal it'll have (and more likely to be a big 'hit' title, and not just a 'sleeper hit').
And you'd be suprised how much small-team development feels like 'side-project' development. No big meetings about focus group feedback...we're literally making a game that WE want to play, and once the gameplay development really gets rolling you'll see beta builds released that feel different by the week.
you have no idea how that sounds like ab ideal job for me.
It wont, not to your misguided standards anyways. It will be graphically appealing and highly usuable, but most of the game's (modest by triple A big budget game standards) will go into making it a landmark, highly rewarding strategy game.
You've been told this before, by fans and the developers, so you have your answer now, and can stop spamming the boards with your agenda.
There won't be any video until next year. We're a long way out.
That is really nice to hear, a lot of games were ruined by doing the opposite.
And by listening to marketing firms demanding eye candy to "sell the game"...
"Eye candy" is not about selling the game but about making the game far more enjoyable.
Correlation is not causation.
And yet you couch all your arguments from the point of view of the game failing commercialy if it doesnt have millions of dollars in the latest, greatest graphics, fx, animations, and cinematics.
You sir, are constructed almost entirely of fail.
I don't really feel there is a need for any major trailers until we hit at least beta 2 or 3. I don't think the gameplay or grahpical experiance will start to get close to the relase until then. We will have beta access in about a month so we should be seeing most of the content as its being worked on. Obviously we won't have things like tactical combat until its in, but the point is we will be playing with the game soon - so you'll see many player videos and I'd expect dev vids or pictures of any new toy they want us to experiment with.
I'm sorry, but no.
A moderate degree of graphics are necessary for a good game, yes. But photo-realistic graphics are neither called for, desired, or necessary for this kind of game. My single biggest complaint with older games has more to do with clumsy UIs than their actual graphics.
Another fault of photorealistic graphics is that they tend to age poorly.
When a game uses stylized art it tend to have its own defination of "this is how it should be". When realism is the driving factor of a games art design you constantly have new definitions of how something should look. After a year or two it starts to look noticably dated as you've seen newer and shinier graphics.
Where the stylized art will still look "like its meant to".
does this count as a gameplay video?

I mean, its like a super-duper alpha (whatever comes before alpha), but many of the mechanics are there. You have a default guy right? He can't really do much... just play cards or something. Then you equip him with "magic robe" and its now a different unit! Now you've got some battle mages! I'm under the impression that unit creation will be like to at least some abstraction.
Right? gameplay? (I thought it was funny)
Ok i must have gone daft recently.
How in the 9 hells does eye candy become "not" about selling the game ?
It makes it more enjoyable ?
Really, like in a visual sense ?
Like "eye candy" ?
And to put this silly statement to bed, "Game mechanics" improve gameplay and enjoyability, not "eye candy"
"Eye candy" simply makes one look at a screen for a moment and state "Oh man that looks awesome!" =/= enjoyment.
Supreme Commander 2 is a lot like Supreme Commander 1, so its not surprising they'd have video already. From what they've said in the dev journals, a lot of stuff in Elemental isn't hooked up yet. Presumably once there is stuff to show in action other then the cloth map, we'll see it.
This is so true it should be bolded Blizzard is a perfect example of this with Warcraft 3 or WoW, they are aging perfectly well (and they can be played in a huge range of computers).
Remember that different companies have differing ideas as to what constitutes an alpha and a beta. Some companies only have betas a month or so ahead of release, so what they call 'alpha' stuff is virtually the finished product. Stardock have betas starting much earlier and on a more basic level (so suggestions of the beta testers can be more integrated into the game), while the game is not advanced enough for good gameplay videos yet.
We're getting pretty close IMHO...I have shots of a fire shard from the newest build that blow https://www.elementalgame.com/Screenshots/Empire_Fire_Shard_1280.jpg away.
It actually makes me a little queezy thinking that that is the graphical fiedelity people are arguing over. Bleh!
So, show us the new build?
Damn that looks awesome!! How are we supposed to survive until the beta? (Yes, I know the beta will be cloth map only, I don't care, I need to play something!! )
WARNING: DO NOT FEED THE TROLL
Seriusly, he's been told like 30 times already. Whats worse is that the game isn't yet at a point where one could realistically expect gameplay vids. On top of all of that, I would play a 2d game if its gameplay was good enough. Most people in this genre would.
Can we get developer permission to smack him around?
