Out of curiousity, I'm wondering who out there has used scout rushing in some way, shape, or form, at some point and had it pay off? Just curious. Say you did it, and I'll give you karma.
I did and I HATE IT. Growing disilusioned with the game. To the point I ain't playign it anymore currently. But I continue to look at eth forums and hope for a better future once more.
I don't want to start a hostile arguement here. Why'd you hate it? I get a little lost when people say they hate the strategy. I'd like to know why.
It's and army of scouts for crying out louad. But what I ahte about it most is that it's what i have to do to kill a LRF spam since IC screwed carriers in their rear exaust port. That'S the simple explanation and don't feel like detailing the long one.
EDIT: To me stratergy rihmes with choise. But here in this current version I do not have a choise, I have an obligation. And Obligation does not rihmes with strategy. Rihmes with prescripted combat.
Can understand that. In all fairness, it's not so much that carriers can't do the job anymore. It's that once the flak show up THEN they're screwed.
This is also why I try to not play rush maps. Rush maps are where you're hands are tied and there are only so many strats that can be employed. When the map gets bigger (not too big mind you), the options become more diverse and overall more fun. That's just me though. The fact that the majority of the community seems to love 5v5 huge single star and 4v4 large single star tells me I'm in the minority.
Yeah the problem with multy start is that is 3-5 stars with 10-20 planets around. Should be 10-20 stars with 3-6 planets around them.
get a carrier or two out and put figters on hold position.
free exp for cap.
I did a scout bomb/ sova rush against fortune in a 1v1 on Close Encounters. It worked well and I was winning until he got MB, then there was no stopping him.
I use scout rush, but only under certain circumstances, like if I'm 2 jumps away from the bad guy and he's already going lrf when I find him.
I find it really useful in those lrf rush situations when there isn't time to get enough econ for carriers. Only problem is it soaks up a lot of credits so you gotta make it work, and work fast. It's true that the Carrier Nerf brought the scout rush into popularity, but I think I'll still find myself using it occasionally even if the carriers are fixed. Just another good strategy for certain circumstances.
Scout rush is relatively well known and mainstream now. Asking us if we've used some varient of it is a pretty silly question.
I frequently use my scouts in combat, either to hunt down colony frigates assigned to neutrals or to harass vulnerable enemies. Great hit and run unit, and the benefit of having lots of scouts running around is invaluable. I actually don't like using scouts in huge masses as my primary combat unit; works against the spammer, but most people know about this by now and will diversify. Even a few other units can really tear up those scouts.
While I usually try to integrate scouts into my forces, I've only done one 'scout rush', if it can be called that. I was against two teamed enemies, and made a large force of Seeker Vessels with a Progenitor Mothership to counter the inevitable LRM attacks until I could bring out my own in signifigant numbers.
Not sure it this counts, though. :/
I feel I should clarify. I was under the impression that no one was using it, or at least, few were. I still get heat when I make them, so I wanted to see if there really are people out there using it. Nice to know there are.
I do use scout rush early-mid game but mix them up with some LFs for some extra firepower. This did work a few times against Kanrak and LRF rushes at critical planets due to being able to clear out the rebels quickly and detaching some scouts to detect and respond rapidly to incoming enemies.
I once tried to sit a sova on my enemies homeworld, and then use mass scouts + timed explosives... worked out ok... except he was getting feed, and started pumping out illums... which was ok, cause by that time I had lrms, and repair bays... but then the guys ally showed up at my homeworld... so i had to build an akkan and run for the center of the map... but the guy i scout spammed was out of the game trying to recover for a nice long while before he got back into the fight... at which point the rest of my team was doing well, since I managed to distract 2 players for the first 30-45 min.
Krath is an effective scout + Marza rusher, though he got fed pretty well the time he used it against me.
Yeah, maybe there will be a better "random map" at some point in the future, but right now these seem like the best maps to give both randomness and not make the game to take FOREVER like the multistar maps. When you give people too much time to prepare their Entrenchment powered choke points, you turn 2 hour games into 5 hour games.
Amish you should really mess around with the in-game map designer, its definitely confusing at first but you can make maps with a set amount of neutrals, and can even make maps with plenty of planets between players. I'm sure you could make a custom map far superior to the random single stars. You could even make maps with other stars that people can travel to (rather than start at different stars like the random multistar maps). Not to mention no pirate bases. If you'd like, I can give you a few tips on how to use it.
Admittedly at first, I was disillusioned by the fact that the maps were still randomly generated, but since most MP players play randomly generated maps, this could potentially be a popular map making tool.
I played a "designer" random map the other day, and could have sworn it was galaxyforge made. I didn't like the map, but the fact remains you have a lot finer control with that editor than I've given it credit for.
Hmm...must tinker
Whats your ICO alias? You may have played that with me
I was playing as "Darvin", so you would have known if you were playing with or against me. My ally was a pretty inexperienced Advent (the kind that needed to be told to get guardians at the 1-hour mark), but at least he listened to what I said.
