In counter-strike and all FPS you log into a list of servers that have names. They say things like Deathmatch, 24/7 dust. In DOTA we got AREM East Cost 4v4. In starcraft we often saw 1v1 or 2v2, even 4v4 comp stomp and 4v4 fastest possible. These names of the servers give the player a very quick look into the game without having to connect to the server only to find out that the server isn't where they want to be. In demigod this should be no different. Unfortunantly the players who host games are incapable of properly announcing to the public what needs to be shown.
The location of the host, and the general area you want all contestants to be from. This can include a language, but more often than not this is english, america, west coast, east coast or europe. Because of the way DG latency opperates, America or Europe is descriptive enough to tell a player whether there ping will be playable or not. Always list where your posting from. Under the proper conditions list the language you will be playing in.
Hosts should always display the size of the game they want to play. 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5. Sometimes this is spliced to show variety in what the host will accept, but if your unsure of the size you want in the game you should just announce WELCOME and not list the size of the teams. People who are casual and looking for a good time will join up.
The host should also label the settings of the game, if the settings are on default, then nothing should be announced (they are on default afterall). I seriously believe that as a host if any settings are going to be different from the normal defaults, they should be announced in the title of the lobby. Such as TowerCreep, HighInc, FastCap ext, and if many game stats are different then there should be some indication of the different play states in the title. If the game is not conquest, it should also be listed in the title.
If you are playing with a premade team, you should announce that your lobby is ready for another pre made team. Any lobby that does not announce this should be safe for any solo player to join without having to be taken on by a team of people in a room together or talking over ventrilo. It was fun the first month guys, now its just getting old.
Your title should also announce the player rating that you expect from those who join your lobby. There is already a good post on the forums about noobs, no noobs, good players and pros. Some indication must be announced, but there is not a good standardized way of judging what level a player is at. Since there is no standard, and because I can't possibly create a standard that everyone will adhere to, just try your best with the noobs only, no noobs, good players and pros disclosure that you can also attach to your title.
As a final example, lets say I'm hosting a 3v3 on cataract, slayer mode with high income. Im in Florida, playing with my friends over ventrilo, and expect decent players but certainly not professionals. My title would be as follows.
US EC 3v3 Slayers HighInc Good PreMade
Short enough to make the point, yet elaborate enough to show the searching players what hosts and games are available when looking for a new game.
As a side note, games that want all random DG should also announce this, ALL RANDOM or AR should be sufficient to announce this.
This information should be common knowledge, but I know everyday I get online I fail to see players saying there settings are on something other than default. Or players with a premade team made up just waiting to beat up a typical team of players. Just try your best to get everything that your game is going to be within the title of your lobby.
I think the majority of us that have been around for awhile use naming conventions that indicate what someone can expect when joining a game.
That said, I just looked the the current custom games and pretty much 1 game had a decent description. I typically do not join games with crap descriptions, so I'd recommend hosting a game yourself if you don't see a game that clearly indicates what it is. Be aware that game names like "US WC 3v3 Slayers HighInc Good PreMade" can't be displayed fully as there appears to be a limit on the number of characters that are visible in game (though your stat record will track the game name correctly). I'm not sure what the exact character limit is though. Thanks for the post!
No matter what we name the game, the wrong people still join.

Seriously man, we named the game "4v4 noob stomp" and people still joined.
Looking forward to team automatch.
I saw that one and the name of the host and went ..um no ...
But some folks aren't so discerning.
The best titles are '3v3, <=150 ping. Good players'. How on earth am I supposed to know what ping to expect if the host forgets to put his location in the game title? Sure, I could have the server stats open and check but seriously...
I'm in Oregon, USA. I get about 300 ping to everybody. Other side of town, other side of nation, other side of ocean, other side of world, they're all the same to me.
LMAO.
Honeslty There are those of use that have been playing games for years and understand the name game.
But there are people like me who know this and usually ignore the names... Why? What is more important to me is how many people are already in the lobby. I would rather join a game with 4 or 5 out if 6 players, so that I dont have to wait in a lobby for 5-10 min to play the game.
I only join Australian games, and I don't join games higher than 3v3 due to my connection. If the game states a Team match, I'll avoid and if the game states it's entirely for beginners I'll avoid that too, in the interest of keeping things fair and fun. Naming conventions are important - however they're too often abused by people looking to either prop up their stats, looking for that easy win or who simply don't understand it.
The language barrier is also important to factor in - many of the people who join my games that state "Australian 3v3" are Europeans who's English skills aren't, shall we say, on par with mine.
I have started listing all of my games as "3v3 US Rage and I will stab you in the eye."
It's worked so far. I've been getting really sick and tired of teams dropping so it won't affect their stats
It will not make a difference what a host titles the game. Just human nature for the most inexperienced players to not consider themselves 'noobs' or will always be in denial. I usually look up stats of teamates while in 'pro' lobbies and often find people with less than 5 games played or 30 + disconnects.
Possible solution
SD should implement some kind of filter that the host can set in the game options. Something like :
-Minutes played over 1000 minutes
-number of disconnects < 15
On the flipside of this, the newer players can set the filters so only the equally inexperienced players will level out their playing field.
I was just in a game.. well twice ( the second time i knew who i was up against tho) with a premade..
Thing is.. in the lobby they made a fuss about having a guy in their team.. so obviously they knew eachother. We asked if they were a premade. Their answer was "No, we are just friends" .. Well fine... lets just see how it turns out.
My team played badly. i died early myself (only death in the game tho) and others in my team died a couple of times aswell. But the thing was, the other teams coordination was RIGHT on the money. So i simply asked them again if they were a premade.
The response i got this time was "Who the F*ck cares" . So i just told them that people who like a fair fight care.
I was told now that i was just trying to find an excuse for my teams loss. Well i know we lost because we played bad, but that was not the only thing (i bel;ieve we had a leaver too, but not a 100% on this) The other team was a premade (now very obvious) and the best thing was that they had top 10 players in it.
The name of this top 10(pro) no noob premade VS randoms was ... (UK) xVx eu..
While i only told them it wasnt good sport not making it 100% obvious they were a premade instead of just some random friends (i didnt even know they were top10 at this time) all i got was replys that pretty much stated that i should shut up, cry more, that they dont care if its unfair..
I dont really plan on naming anyone, but i do feel it should be atleast decent behaviour to let a random group know they are up against impressive odds
It's my goal to spoon feed every random player whatever he wants everytime he joins my game. Seriously, i'm tired of this shit. It's not the hosts fault at this point, the inability to do team matchups is at fault here. Get over it, stop crying already. Theres 4000000000000000000000 replys on this subject already that we will never see eye to eye on.
It took us 24 minutes yesterday to start a game. TWENTY FOUR MINUTES. It filled up after 15, somone asked if I was a premade, I said I knew char. The guy started immeaditly whining about premades and caused domino leaving. Why should I look out for other people when it's clearly the other side being a dick to me.
Funny cause you join my games and I never put descriptions. Honestly titles mean nothing, and never will. And the amount of characters displayed is dismal for our much extra room there is.
Your a bad person. Playing in a premade match against random players who are unaware is bad. Your comments are bad. Chances are you bad at the game to, and possibly even worse at naming games. How can you state with such conviction that Random players are ruining your play experience because they don't want to fight vs a premade team. Nobody wants to play a game for 30 minutes where there odds of winning are non-existant. But oh yea, poor you it took 20 minutes to get a game going because people are just being people. Label your server as a pre-made team and in that same 20 minutes a group of friends would have probably joined. However, by the way you view the world indicated by your comments, you wouldn't want a fair fight in the first place.
I guess its never occurred to you that premades are just people being people as well.
Im not asking to be spoonfed info whenever i join. If i happen to be vs a semi premade or some pro and i lose horribly, then thats just bad luck. Personally id prefer if all games had some info in the name (which takes like 1 second, and saves you countless dissconects because people dont like being hammered by a pro premade 2 minutes ingame)
I join alot of names which have no obvious name, andi take whatever i find in there. I dont rage quit and i simply try to do the best for my team, and if all else fails, for my favor gain. My only point was that i asked the guy a simple yes or no answer and he only replys with a vague, non informative answer.
Im to lazy right now to look at your rank, WickedBear, but i doubt anyone would like to play a unfair match. If you are a high end player, it might not bother you to much. If the other team happens to be a random noob team, you`ll just bash them and might find enjoyment in it.On the other side you have the team of randoms. People who havent even seen eachothers names. This directly effects the level of communication in the lower end of the ranks. Newer people dont communicate to well, and hardly reply to anything you tell them. What do you think happens when you put a team like that VS a team of a top 10 players premade... Its pretty easy. they get slaughered. So bad that they wont learn anything from it because 50% someone rage quits after the first 2 deaths(at which point most games are already over) and after that the kills just keep stacking up untill their UB or AA reg has some artifacts to kill people in 3 seconds flat. At which points you dont even have the time to learn anything from it.
So the pros play a game, which they won in the first second of entering the lobby. Taking away any challange. They wont learn anything. Even build testing wont work, since the guys you'd normally face in pro games will react completely different then suicide oaks you`ll find in noob games. And the noobs play a game in which they die time after time because the other team is on voice com, might have a very good team with nice synergys.... Well you get the point.
If you hate these kind of posts, its pretty obvious you like bashing noobs. I join noob games every once in a while (when there are no others available that match my skill lvl) and i have almost no fun if i play my main characters... I`ll get a kill on my first encounter and have a artifact after 5 minutes. So i normally play these games with demigods i normally dont play with, or go for a support build so my experience advantage isnt as obvious.
In short.. If you want a game to fill quicker, and want to play it from end to finish, you should name your game appropriately to ward of rage quitting noobs, and people who dont like to play against premades on their own.
Oh yeah, i LOVE bashing newbs. It's my favorite thing to do, wait 24 minutes to start a game and concede by level 6. Sounds like fun right? Stop being a freaking retard ffs. Jump to all the conclusions you want without any evidence, the bottom line is game titles mean nothing and theres no point to this stupid overdone thread that only encourages me to waste more of my time.
I can't argue wtih somone who obviously knows me like the back of his hand. You should get an award for being able to assume thigns about people! But, "oh yeah poor you" it must be really hard going through life with that kind of intelligence.
hey guys, don't argue with wickedbear, it's not worth wasting your time and eventually he stops arguing and makes dumb comments like above
to op, please use search, there are a bunch of these
I stop argueing with those who are obviously beyond reason. For example: you, where your ego is SOOOOOOOOO massive, that you actually distort your preception of reality from the truth just to maintain an internal balance.
two prime examples of what i said, as is the post above
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/358778
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/358767
I never asumed YOU did. My entire post circled around the fact that if you wanted a challange, naming your game would increase the odds of it happening. I know it doesnt always work, but i do know that the vast majority of games i join with "no noobs" in them have less people who dont know what they are doing
And nobody is asking you to reply or even read these posts, so the only one to blame for wasting your time is you. The sort of person that you are is pretty obvious by now, so i will just ignore you untill you start making valid points
If I kept argueing with people who adamantly believe their right without regard to reason, I would be on teh fourms 24/7 and posts would never die. The only reason I stopped argueing in the first thread with that moron was because the Mod asked me to. You're clearly too stupid for your own good though, and this will go straight over your head, so i'm done.
It's been proven in this very thread that titles mean nothing, yet you stand by your conviction. The premades are telling you that no matter what they put in their game names, random people will join. The best games I get are the games I put less shit on, because they dont want a game with
Wow, can you at least get your facts right? If youre going to make an assumption about me, at least don't chicken out and say you didn't.
I hate posts like these because it's been pointed out time and time again, THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION TO SHIT. All these f****** stupid premade threads aren't issues with players, its with a broken matchmaking system. Till that comes out, bite your freaking tongues or argue about how to solve the underlying problem. Your duct-tape isn't welcome here.
The second reason I hate these posts is the masive amount of comittment bias spewing forth from every direction. Even in the face of total opposition that actually has supporting evidence, logic, and fact, the thread will continue down to the point of personal insults which it already has.
If you had any intention of helping out a thread, and just spend a second or two to sound civil i might even feel you could be right. The problem is that you seem overly pissed about a thread that you could just not click on and be done with it. I know the name doesnt always matter.
All i asked in my post was commen honesty when i ask a guy if his group is a premade. If answering a question, one only asked to ensure a fun and fair game, is to much to ask then i guess online gaming really is dominated by 12 year olds and 40 yo virgins.
Oh and i guess i did make some assumptions. Didnt mean to bluntly ignore that i said it. The reason i didnt remember was because it was never my intent in the first place to bash you. It was just me not understanding why peoplo want to play a game of bash the noob. And my post, and these threads are just a way of saying "we want a fair game", which shouldnt be to much to ask for.
I do agree that its very likely naming them is not THE solution.. and filtering options might be a good option, or a working matchmaking mechanic... Anyway... i tire of all of this. I dont respond well to rude replys. I might post here again (or in anything simular) if the people can be nice enough to speak without acting all high and mighty
My replys would have been much nicer had you used the search feature before choosing to beat the dead horse. All in all, you seem like somewhat of a man of reason so stick around.
