Hey guys,
I just downloaded Entrenchment off Impulse and am once again playing constantly. One thing that drives me crazy is having to research everything all over again every game. Is there a mod that makes everything already researched so I can just focus on empire building/combat?
Thanks!
no,
that would give you an unfair advantage wouldn't it?
Not if all AI players had max tech as well, wouldn't it?
Oh damn, you saw through the OP's ruse of creating a mod everyone has to have to give the same 100% tech to everybody. As if modding your own game has to be 'fair'.
OP, there isn't a mod out there that does this right now. You'd have to do it yourself. Unfortunately this sort of thing was present in RTS games made in 2001 (AoE, etc) but seems to not be very prevalent nowadays.
Thank you for the honest and prompt reply, sir!
all of the games you play in Sins are "seperate engagements", meaning that each time you play it's a whole different scenario. you gotta start from the beginning and build up!
That's like saying you should never install a mod with new units because Sins is designed to play with the ones you have. If the OP wants to cut out research order and focus on another part of the game that's his perogative.
My suggestion is to play using the Developer exe, one of the functions of which can give everyone all the research, and will obviously be a lot simpler than creating an actual mod
Not sure if dev.exe works when you are playing mutli though
please tell me how to play with dev.exe! I'm only interested in solo play.
Nevermind! It appears developer.exe isn't designed yet for 1.03!
The 1.03 dev exe is available, I'm using it at the moment. Click the Downloads button at the top of the page and it's about half way down.Once you have got it downloaded, you just place it in your sins directory, use it to start the game up, set a game up as you normally would, then once in game press Ctrl+Shift+Period, then you want "Change Galaxy" (a), then "Change Player" (d), then "Give all research" (i). Done.
Interesting o.0
But there should be an option for this in the game menu. Age of Empires II allowed you to start a game in the 'Post-Imperial Age' which meant that every tech was already researched when the game began.
That would be nice for Deathmatches in Sins, no?
Tried it out, works decent, built a massive Advant cleansing fleet, and about four hours in got some damn error! GalCiv2 is solid as a rock, but this game crashes way too often on stable machines.
why do people keep comparing this game with others and saying they wish this was more like galactic civs or some other RTS, if you like those better , then play those! this is a different game ppl
GalCiv is a very nice game, but i like the openess of Sins and you can get close to the ships, or the planets, it feels more like your in space, but GalCiv even with all the moving parts on the ships and you can customize them and there are a ton of research and other things that are made different, it is different, because of the 4x part, and the planets are not as well done, in my opinion. But it is very very stable. I just think Sins is sorta a GalCiv plus you know? But there are still way lots of things in GalCiv that Sins could learn from and make Sins better. In my opinion of course.

Just because we wish Sins had a certain aspect of another game doesn't mean we hate it.
There are some things I feel Homeworld does better, but that doesn't mean I hate Sins.
but do remember that sins is an RTS, unlike galactic civs. it a tad bit more difficult to add so much more to an RTS than a turn based game.
Yes, you are right, that is so... I sometimes forget that Sins is really RTS so much, But i was thinking they could add more into the 4X part of it, you know, maybe research trees that are dependent on which direction you first start in, instead of having an open all accessible research tree, it might be nice to have one that is different depending on the choices i make, or is different with each game forcing different considerations.
But that would require a host of research, and a system for showing some of them and not others, or for branching depending on the choices of the player. I have seen RPG games do it, but it probably isnt an easy thing to do, and certainly adds to the size and running speed of the game. But it still would be COOL,
Just my opinion of course, im only a file tweaking modder, not a developer, so i have no idea what it would take to actually build this into the game. I just like the thought of more customizability and adding the variety to the game.
Thank you for the explanation though, i didnt remember right off that GalCiv is more 4X, and Sins more RTS, to be honest, im not real good at understanding the difference, haha, i feel stupid sometimes, well... i guess i cant know everything, though i have a friend that tells me i think i know everything, haha
naw it's ok. it's just that you have so many more options in a turn based game because you can actually spend time to make choices, where as in an RTS time is of the essence. but nonetheless, agreed, it would be cool to have more research
