Ive been playing sins of a solar empire, and i love the game except for the fact that defensive structures like the gauss cannon suck, and i have to be constatly moving my fleet to ward off attacks. Ive heard about entrenchment, and they say theve improved defensive structures. are the structures worth it, and are they strong enough to hold off a fleet until reinforcements arrive? also ive only seen ways to buy it online with a credit card. is there any way to buy it with cash?
Yes and yes. Entrenchment is definately worth the money. If you like Sins, then buy it.
That is true. By the looks Entrenchment defenses will hold off a fully equiped fleet and destroy many capital ships in the process. The mines cannot be seen from your opponent so their massive fleets could be destroyed before they even break any harm to your structures. Also Never; and I mean Never give out credit card information to people or companies online. That is a good way for identity theft. Iwill look into the cash thing and see what they have to sasy.
You already have the answer in your other post, but ill state it here again anyway
at the moment, you cant buy Entrenchment with cash, its only available though Impulse (i believe) but at the very least its only available online, meaning you need a CreditCard or Visa DebitCard or equivalent.
But yes, its definitly worth it, and its only $10... Lunch will often cost more.
Good luck
Yes. Entrenchment adds a lot to the game. Well worth it in my opinion.
Entrenchment is well worth the purchase if you enjoyed Sins.
There is absolutely no way I would go back to vanilla, the new game is superior.
definitely entrenchment is better, an excellent 10 bucks spent on a video game
Yes Yes Yes..
StarBases add a whole new level to play...
I can't wait for the next Xpac!!!
Or you can just scrutinize whomever you give the information to, and ensure they're a respectable company with a secure connection. The days when the internet warranted that level of paranoia are mostly gone, as long as you're not giving your info out on pr0n sites. I frequently give out my credit card info to quite a number of companies online, since it's often the quickest or only way to do business with them
That said, I also check my bank statements regularly and my credit reports yearly - things you should probably be doing anyways.
Edit: (I should actually reply to the OP.) I find Entrenchment to be a lot of fun, and I highly recommend purchasing it. You are required to use Impulse to buy it, which means you need to use a credit card (or maybe PayPal). I'd still suggest getting it.
To be honest, the fighter movement ability on all ships alone is worth me paying my share for the game
I'm new to Entrenchment, what is the fighter movement ability?
sample awesomeness in entrenchment.
TECstarbase heaviliy upgraded with armor, weapons and fighters, aux government etc that keeps the planet under your control longer.planet defesnses are improved: gauss cannons have two new upgrades giving them more firepower, hangers have flak, mines
NOTE: mines CAN be seen just not targeted by the enemies until they bring in a scout to detect them. once detected than can be targeted and destroyed.
ive had mid-grade starbases that have held grav wells against 4+ caps and support fleet by itselve against the AI. fully upgraded starbases arent even attacked by AI unless they have the long range weapons to counter them. even then, the star base will probably win if it has bomber support.
hands down for $10 it is worth the upgrade.
Even with the guass cannon improvements, I've still been skeptical and only used hanger defenses and starbases so far. How do people think upgraded guass cannons compare to using hangers now?
Is Entrenchment worth it? I'd say that that depends. If you play online multiplayer, you really need to have it since most people who play online multiplayer regularly have Entrenchment and you might have a hard time finding games to play in without it and you'll miss out on the 5v5 and 4v4 games.
On the other hand, if you play single player, then you need to consider your options and whether or not Entrenchment is worth $10 to you. Entrenchment adds starbases, two new ships for killing enemy structures and starbases (Vasari doesn't have one for various reasons), and a few new items on the tech tree that are unrelated to starbases.
Personally, I like Entrenchment, but I only play the game in online multiplayer. In contrast, if you don't go online and play single player, one issue might be whether or not the AI uses the new content properly--it might not add as much to the game as it does in online multiplayer if the AI cannot use it very well. If you only play single player you have options for expanding your game and for adding content to it for free. (Online multiplayer suffers from a lack of auto-download for custom maps and mods, so custom maps are rarely played and mods are never played, which doesn't mean that it isn't great fun, just not as great as it could be.) There are all sorts of custom game mods to explore, some of which are probably excellent and have a devoted fan base and active modding community, such as the Seven Deadly Sins mod that you might want to explore.
Of course, one benefit of purchashing Entrenchment is that you would be supporting Ironclad and Stardock and helping to encourage the production of PC games that lack intrusive, despicable DRM and mind-numbing consolization.
i can only speak for how they compare against the AI. i generally only place 1 to 2 hangers in a grav well and thats it. just enough to wear down scouts so they dont get too deep into my space.
if i need to build a choke point though, the gun upgrades are fantastic. guns with mutually supporting repair bays and hangers work really well once everything is upgraded.
on choke point planets that can support the tactical slots, i will put 8 guns in pairs around the planet. 2 repair bays and then fill the remaining slots with bomber hangers. i put in the standard logistical stations with extra ship factories. then i build the starbase with maxed in weapons and armor and then bombers. once the station is built and their is less focus on the planet itself, i will remove some of the guns and put in hangers and maybe a planetary shield.
sometimes i will place the starbase inside the repair bay range as well.
i have yet to lose a planet with this set to an AI player. Human players would simply go around it or nail the defenses with long range weapons.
Dauntless Ansible, I don't mean to be an ass, but when I look at your avatar, I have to ask myself, "Would Ender Wiggin be satisfied with playing against AI forever or would he prefer the challenge of playing against other people? What would Ender play?"
(OK Haree, go ahead and roast me.)
as far as ender thought, he was playing AI's until the end. he fought against them with his human soldiers just as i do. im pretty sure he would be satified regardless because its SINS.
Yeah, I suppose that's true. But I suspect that if he were a Sins player and not doing what the military had ordered him to do, he'd prefer to play it in online multiplayer, which offers a much greater challenge than playing against AI. So come check out the online action. You could start out by playing humans v. AI games (comp stomps) which might be a good way to meet some folks and to enjoy the camraderie of having human allies.
But Ender didnt want to fight. He did it because he was good and his superiors forced him to. The only reason he continued 'commanding' ws because he thought it was.. just... simulations... oh crap...
so there are probably a a few million if not a few billion planets in the galaxy somewhere that have been nuked and occupied and novalithed and billions of destroyed ships and dead crew members somewhere from all the people who play Sins...
Oh well, time for lunch =P
It's more about how trustworthy the company is. It's true that running around spending money on the internet three hundred times a day is risky, but if you stick to trustworthy companies (i.e. Stardock, Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc.) then the chances of getting your identity stolen are minimal. Purchasing this game should not be considered a security threat.
To clear things up, i want to pay in cash because i dont HAVE a credit card, not because im afraid of identity theft. ill probably just buy a visa gift card for myself or get someone else to buy it for me and pay them back. thanks for the advice.
I play against people online all the time, just not in RTS!
RTS AI fun > Vs Human fun
I'd get a lot more fun out of Coop human Vs AI fun though probably.
Ok, do you know when your ships attack other ships, they tend to stay in a line formation at all times. well what fighter movment will do is that they will allow the ships to move during an attack. Same as you were to build the fighters from the hangers
Now i really need to get entrenchment.
Well I tried it last night and really enjoyed it, but 4 and a half hours was a big commitment, won't be doing it too regular
