I am making some maps, and i need ideas for them. anyone who posts good ideas gets karma
Someone give me ideas
Make one that looks like a gigantic smiley face.
Try to work towards one that has semi-serious orbital positions while keeping some sense of balance-- it's harder than it sounds.

I can attest! Remember that the angles at which a phase lane meets a planet is more important than the distances of the phase lanes towards balance. There's not a lot of difference between a 5 second and a 10 second warp, but there IS a lot of difference between an obtuse and acute angle between two phase lanes.
I've been working on some interesting configurations myself. One of my favourites is the binary star configuration, where there are phase lane connections between the two solar systems. You need to space any interstellar jump (even if it's an ordinary phase lane) fairly far apart, however. This is because stars can vary dramatically on the Z-Axis, and any phase lane that has a significant slope in Z-axis causes weird behavior. This configuration allows the sun to become a "back door" that opens up mid-game. The trick is to keep the distance of conventional phase jumps short enough that players can actually rush so that the civic labs don't appear too early.
Never had considered that-- will in the future

I have tried to make maps but found they never turn out the way i want. . There are a couple of maps you can use for the Entrenchment expansion like Systems of war. How about making a couple of maps where each empire starts of in it's own system and build up it's defences first before going on to explore the other nearby systems. These maps i think would make full use of the dug in stalemate scenario that entrenchment is all about.
When you select a planet, you can actually stipulate an owner who controls it at the start of the game (just be sure to give them the necessary number of population infrastructure upgrades as well). Unfortunately, this has some unwelcome side effects. Every planet starts with a frigate factory, and if quick-start is on also starts with two scouts and a capital ship factory. Since the AI doesn't scuttle, this is effectively a massive handicap to them.
Although in past versions you could create units and other structures that appear in gravity wells at the start of the game (in fact, you still can, but you have to edit it in by hand with notepad), in the current version trying to do this will crash galaxy forge.
Are you using the "Map Designer" or Galaxy Forge?
The Map designer in game, couldn't get galaxy forge to work. Bu then i aint tried in like 4 months. lol
Four months? Sounds suspiciously close to when they changed the file format of the maps, and caused a bunch of incompatibility havoc. Make sure you have patched to the most recent version of the game, and download the most recent version of galaxy forge, and give it another try.
Will do. I have the latest and greatest updates but to be honest i forgot galaxy forge existed..... tried once....failed.....oh well. lol but i'll give it a go tonight. see what happens. cheers.
I've been trying to upload some maps i've made for a long time but can never get it to work. Any help on uploading them on this site?
