as it stands i find the elemental forums impossible to read and i'm currently reading by selecting the text (white on navy).
is this just me?
if not, can we get a better colour scheme (for the text at least)
Just you.
well....
guess it's time for my eye test then.
it's alright when i sit up, but i like to kick back on the forums...
That made me laugh.
yeah, I'm kinda surprised. I find no problem reading the text, nor do I see how anybody could. I think the light tan color makes a suitable background over something like while.
If you really want a white background, go to stardock.com or impulsedriven.net and use its forums. It has access to all of elemental's forums and you should be able to read it better. (or at least it used to give access, it may have been changed)
I think in general, if you come to an established forum that has been around for half a year with this many users and posts and you find it impossible to read - then it's probably just you. In this case it's definitely just you
I forgot about the option to over-ride font colors in your brower. Aesir is totally collect.
Besides what Aesir Rising has mentioned it might also be your monitor or display drivers. I've read several complaints about gameplay and forum reading over the many years where the monitor and/or graphic drivers were the problem.
Fucking ouch, that blue on white hurts!
I'd have to break down and get an LCD display if I had to use a white background, and turn the contrast way down when browsing. 85hz just ain't fast enough for a white background, and even without the flicker it hurts to look at bright shit for long.
Punishing all for the sins of one is not cool, Aesir Rising
I bet you're not Catholic.
I am not a fan of organized religion in general. I think it's simply a method of controlling people and gaining power. Catholicism in particular - I don't see why some old dude who's been appointed by a bunch of other old dudes all of a sudden gains some special connection to God. Why should God care who said council of old dudes appoints?
But even more, the notion that some anthropomorphic all-powerful omnipotent being in the sky gives a rat's ass about what I or anyone else does during our fleeting existences seems arrogant to me, and reeks of people grasping for some greater meaning to life where there is none so they can feel comforted and not have to think for themselves.
Who needs to intellectualise a lack of faith? It's something you either have or don't. Big deal. Whoopie-do.
Validation.
I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic. I think it's just as silly to deny the existence of a 'godly' entity (in whatever form) as it is to be devoted in the belief of said entities. Now, I'm not inclined at all to believe in the gods of the major religions of the world simply because descriptions of their characteristics, actions and concerns seem very much like something mankind would make up to make ourselves feel better, and to fill a void that we otherwise have no way of filling.
I wouldn't argue vehemently against the existence of such gods - I don't know whether or not they exist, so what exactly would I be arguing? I would, however, argue that organized religions are for the most part shams and even if the gods they claim to worship exist in some fashion, the religious bureaucracies wouldn't really have their support. It is human nature to be curious and seek answers (hence so many followers) and to seek power (hence organized religion).
I base my opinions on rational thought, and when something is easily (and thus more probably) explained by something like human nature, rather than some existential omnipotent being, I find no reason to jump through hoops in order to convince myself of the latter. Occam's Razor ftw.
ZubaZ looks at the topic and the content of the last few posts and tries to make a connection . . . .
You're trying to find a connection between the content of a thread and its topic? In these forums? That's almost as vain an attempt as literary analysis
Alrighty, Zubaz, Yes I'll stop going off on a tangent within the topic, but lemme 'splain before it gets locked:
You see, someone says, "Punishing all for the sins of one is not cool..."
And I think to myself, "Self, that sounds a lot like the concept of Original Sin and similar concepts found within several world religions. Oh, and also forms the basis of 'group punishment' found in the basic training programs of several military organizations."
So, I figured that much could be gleened from the words of anyone that though punishing all for the sins of one is not cool.
For example:
I'm pretty sure that person isn't Catholic (see: Original Sin).
I'm really very certain that person is not and has never been a Drill Sergeant.
The odds of this person being a Catholic Drill Sergeant approach nil.
The person has fairly complex thought processes, and is able to abstract and then generalize the discomfort felt from viewing what I will affectionately term "The Rude Color Posts". So, rather than say something like, "WoW, Aesir, those posts hurt my eyes, too - and I'm just an innocent bystander!", we see the more complex concept of "group punishment" enter into the response.
