We get two for free anyway, so the starting roster is 10 demigods.
Let's assume for the sake of argument that:
Also, we all enjoy the game.
In the hopes that GPG isn't abandoning Demigod in favor of supcom2 or something else, how willing are you to fork over your cash in order to get more DGs of a quality similar to the original ones ?
(US-Dollars. Assume the dollar remains stable.)
Note: According to GPG according to a comment, the development of a new Demigod from scratch is supposed to cost GPG $100,000 (source: he-said-he-said-they-said). It will certainly get cheaper if GPG streamlines their efforts to generate new DG content, but even so they have to earn money.
Acceptable price for new demigods:
Also, what would be the most sensible way to release the new creations ?
Release format for new Demigods:
Updated Current result (#141):
Surprisingly this thread got revived and offered nearly 20 new identifyable votes.
Like always, the current result required a bit of an interpretation effort on my part: For example, a decent sized expansion gets interpreted as 4 demigods and a full expansion as demigods, however phrased.
The dislike of the downloadable-content model persists. Although it's not quite clear to me what the factual difference is between a 4-DG DLC for 5$ per DG and an expansion pack containing 4 DGs for 20$-25$. I suppose it's the fear of the legendary "horse-armor".

Don't you mean $100,000?
i probably do.
A fair price would be 2$ per demigod and they should come in pairs. Maybe 3$, but that's it, no more than this.
Imo, 3$ is allready expensive. People who say that they will pay 5$ or more for a demigod or 40$ for an addon, don't know what they are talking about. Yes, let's say they cost them 100.000$ for one Demigod. But they sold Demigod in at least 110.000+ copies. Now let's assume that not all the people who bought it will buy the new DLC with the demigods. Let's say that only 60.000 of them will buy the DLC with 3$ for one demigod. Do the math: 60.000 x 3$ = 180.000$ => a profit of 80.000$.
100.000$ costs for making 1 DG ?
LOOOOOOOOL
People who want an infinite amount of free addons from the company are just crazy and greedy (or is that a little harsh? lol)
They're giving us some free content already. They've stated as much. But you can't expect them to keep on working to make new content in the form of maps and DGs without some kind of compensation on their part.
The OP stated that the scenario here is that all the bugs have been fixed and the game works fine. That means the car analogy doesn't hold up. It'd be more like you buy a car that's not working right and it gets fixed (for free mind you, really it should have never been broken in the first place, so they'll flip the bill on it). Then you go to the dealership and add in the premium stereo system, cool hood scoop, ect. You're going to have to pay for that stuff.
What makes you think that many copies were sold? It's really not worth anyone's time to sell "single" demigods for $3 with the current size of the player base. Those kind of gimmicks only work for mega corps like SOE and Blizzard.
Let's be realistic.
I think the person meant $100k for 1 demigod.
I would like to pay $3 and come out in pairs.
Under the 'everything else works fine' scenario, I'd realistically pay $5 and while I wouldn't mind if they were sold in singles, it'd probably be best if they were released in pairs.
Hell, I'm not bothered at all with the connections issues as it is so I'd pay that now. I know my local friends probably would, too.
As long as the content is optional and meaningful, I much prefer frequent updates to waiting a year for an expansion.
I'd like to see two options:
1) Pack of either 2 or 4 demigods with a theme. 2 demigods with 1 maps for $10 and 4 demigods with 3 maps for $20. And a few new items.
2) Retail Demigod: Gold Edition - $50, goes to retail in Nov/Dec (in U.S.) with Demigod Retail and 6 new demigods (10+4 from expansions) - Hopefully this new version would warrant new reviews and really help Demigod grow.
If they do decide to do a traditional expansion pack I would want:6 demigods6 mapsmod/map making support$30-$35
Don't know the details, mind sharing?
Frogboy said they sold 100.000+ copies in retail alone, not counting the digital sells on Impulse.
I'd pay nothing. There should have been like 12 DGs to begin with and they promised at least two for free.
By the time they get to DGs we must pay for, Starcraft II will be out and DemiGod left with like 100 players online, so who cares?
You seem to be a rather negative person. Does Starcraft II even have a release date yet?
lol i wouldnt pay per demigod. it doesnt work like that.
i would pay per expansion which would contain other things like new maps, multiplayer features, general features, game modes, items, general features ect ect.
What does Starcraft 2 have to do with Demigod? The gameplay is completely different. That kind of comment would have been more relavent on a DoW 2 forum
I'm not sure if paying for individual demigods would really make since at all. It would end up dividing the community, since those who didn't pay for the extra demigods don't get to play in games with an expanded demigod set?
It would make more sense for GPG to release an expansion pack with a load of meaningful content.
Though I can't see this happening for some time yet, considering Demigod still feel's like its in a beta stage :/
I'm willing to pay NOTHING for 2 new DGs and new maps as that was part of what SD said would be available for free as part of free DLC and continuing support.
After that, who knows, $20 for a decent sized expansion pack would seem appropriate.
Seriously, if they dont provide some of this free content that was lorded around the time of release, my oppinion of Stardock (not GPG, I bought the game from Stardock) will drop.
You must be mistaken, there would be more than 500-2000 people online even with all the problems if they sold 100k units. I recall that there were something like 120k pirates trying to log in, maybe thats what youa re thinking of.
I don't know about 1 at a time, or 2 at a time, but I would definately go for a retail xpac with new dgs/maps/items. Depends tho, a format like DoW:Dark Crusade where you can play whataver content you have paid for vs whatever content someone else has paid for would work fine as well (for me).
Excatly, if im not mistaken, they guys who made DOtA are making similar game with 20+ choices. I dont feel that "they are developing extra material therefore I should pay for it." I feel that more should be in a $40 game to begin with. So if they dont have a single player campaign, then why are there only 8 DGs and a few select maps? DoWII has more than 8 heros to choose from, they are constantly putting out NEW maps for FREE. They are comming out with more single player DLC that I will not buy but I feel that they are doing it correctly in balancing paying for DLC and recieving and update for free.
With new items it wouldn't work.
And i think they should better fix all the useless items instead of adding new mostly useless items.
the difference being that DOW2 got boring after about 4-5 games while demigod with its smaller arrary of things has not
i mean look at counter strike source. there are new maps yeah, but there is no new content besides that, and thats one of the most played pc games
They are STILL going to give away 2 FREE demigods. Read the Dev Journals, Frogboy talks about it a ton. We are addressing a completely different question here: how do you want your expansion packs?
You are not, but have you seen the engine that LoL runs on? It has worse graphics than WCIII. The production costs are much lower. As stated above we will get 2 FREE demigods, and I hope some new maps. Then DLC or an expansion pack would be great.
$10 (U.S.) for a micro-expansion with 2 new Demigods, one new map, and several new items. should also include substantive revisions to existing maps and demigods and perhaps new features such as new Play Modes.
Overall though, it looks like Demigod will hit 100,000 units sold before the official European release.
That quote is from a journal on May 18. In another post (that i cannot find it now), Frogboy said those 100.000 units sold are only at retail, not counting Impulse digital sells. So believe what you want, i've just said what Frogboy said.
Good to hear, he has also said digital sales are doing quite well, and that digital sales have been growing while retail are tailing downward. Since they were #8 in PC games last month and the euro release recently, I hope they are really getting up there.
That said, DLC purchse or full expansion are probably between 30-75% depending on content. Hopefully they realize we are willing to help there bottom line if they have REAL content in the way of fixes, improved community features, demigods, maps, and mod support.
We can see a trend now:
A majority rates the worth of a new demigod at 5$ with the average being roughly about 4$ (i'm assuming 8$ for the X$ voters).
Most people prefer new demigods to come in pairs but a nearly equally large group prefers a full expansion pack with 4-8 demigods.
Most people also expect those demigod packs to include new maps, items, etc., which more or less means that they take new maps for granted.
Like before, the current result required a bit of an interpretation effort on my part:

An interesting point raised was that of new cash-only-demigods dividing the player base.
It would be less of a concern if non-paying users could play against the new ones, but not with them.
