I just started so I don't actually remember what they call that menu on the left. The one that shows all the planets and ships and everything. Either way, I want to remove everything from the menu that I don't want. I don't need to know that I have 2 construction frigates at every single planet. When I de-pin them, they still are there. So how do I remove things like those+buildings I don't care to know about, etc.
I did a search, but the forums are so slow for me, that it was taking 30 minutes to find one or two posts.
Thanks!
you can't remove it. it's not really a menu either, it's a "quick search" tool. just close it as it doesn't need to be open constantly
so then, how do people keep tabs on all their ships easily? If you get 5 or 6 fleets roaming a huge system, it can get tedious remember where each one is going. On top of that, I enjoy using the menu to choose my planets quicker. I just don't really want to see all the different things that aren't necessary. Didn't know if there was a file I could change some values to aleviate this issue.
Set your fleet numbers then like for the first fleet set it to Ctrl + 1 or create a fleet, but using the fleet creation icons
The menu is called the Empire Tree. In the Interface options there are several auto-pin settings for it.
You can manually pin/unpin objects to it by using the ~ key (to the left of '1'). Note that technically it pins the whole gravity well of the object, so if you pin a building (like a superweapon) it will actually pin the planet that it's on.
Also, Starbases are auto-pinned by default and we still don't have an option to toggle their auto-pin off.
well thanks for the answers. I knew all that, it just seems there is a lot of potential there to keep better tabs on things.
For instance, when I have a fleet tabbed, I don't need to see the fleet phasing to other planets in a seperate section on the empire tree. Just put it in Planet A or Planet B.
I like to be able to click on planets and see exactly where I have non-fleeted ships, like a colony frigate. So if I have to see that there is construction frigates, hangar defenses, repair pads, etc. etc. it may take my eyes an extra few seconds to pick out the icon for the colony frigate. I want to unpin ALLLLL of that other crap that I have no need to click on from the empire tree. Do people really click on the empire tree to see their repair stations?
So, are there any customizable files that I can change a value from a 0 to a 1 to let me unpin some things??
Thanks for the answers.
Are you asking then if it's possible to show only the specific "thing" you had pinned and not anything else? So if you pinned a Novalith, that's the only thing you would see? No planet, no anything else around it?
If so, then no, that's not possible.
It sounds to me like he wants to keep the planet pinned, but he wants to remove the other things from the list, such as structures he isn't going to click on or the construction ships, etc. He just wants the planet and like the colony frigate hanging out in the gravity well. At least that's how it seems to me.
Personally I haven't messed with the empire tree much... when it starts getting large and becoming an annoyance to the eyes I just turn it off, or collapse each planet view. Since I usually group my ships into fleets (even single or small groups of ships) and they are at the top of the tree anyway, I can find them that way.
I haven't played online multiplayer, but I suspect you don't really have much time to mess around with the tree there. Maybe I'll find out one day.
Please do! Aside from the fact that MP games might be more hectic and shorter, it really makes the strategy and tactics more interesting!
Actually, in multiplayer, you probably should be using the tree quite often. It's much easier to see what kind of a threat you are dealing with in the tree than looking in the grav well. It's also very easy to queue up attack orders on specific kinds of units.
Yes thank you Damethian. You got it. I want the planet to stay there, I just want all the construction frigates and the like to disappear. The Empire tree can allow you to react quicker upon hearing so and so entered your planet and is ram rodding it. You also don't have to zoom out and zoom back in, just clicking will take you where you want. Etc. Etc. Etc.
So when things DO get hectic the empire tree doesn't become completely useless apart from the fleets.
I read everywhere about being able to adjust files so that certain ships don't spawn with autojoin fleet on. Stuff like that. You can adjust certain files to help your game. I want to adjust my files to get rid of the random things I don't use on the empire tree. Make sense?
Yes, but as I said, that can't be done. The only thing you can do is increase the stack size on the empire tree to make it smaller in big games. There's no way to mod what it shows and what it doesn't, or how it works - that's all hardcoded.
