I broke down all the items that have a sustained DPS contribution. This includes adjustments to base damage increase, speed increase, critical hits, proc damage burst (like Nature's Reckoning) and proc speed increase (like Unmaker). This does not include activated abilities like Bracelet of Rage's +300 damage.
I used lvl 1 Regulus as a test case. He starts with a base damage of 160 and attacks .69 times every second for a base DPS of 110.
Excluding favor items, I put together a list of how much each item will increase your DPS per 100 gold spent. For each 100 gold spent on Gauntlets of Brutality, you get an additional 4.3125 DPS.
There are a ton of relationships that this list doesn't take into account. If I have Mard's Hammer, for example, it will interact with critical hit items to yield a higher DPS contribution than it would do on it's own.
And the character you play will affect how much DPS each item contributes. I have a very high attack speed, my proc items like Ashkandor will go off more often per second and yield a higher DPS than a DG with a very low attack speed.
Most interesting thing about this list is that Nature's Reckoning ranks so high. It has a 15% chance to do an additional 250 damage and adds 600 mana. 15% X 250 Damage X .69 hits per second yields an additional 26 damage per second on average. It's a high value, overlooked item for its damage potential alone; the extra mana really makes it something worth considering for DGs like Regulus who rely on both spells and auto attacking.
karma for you
Cheers for putting the time in, it's useful information! I never really go for Nature's Reckoning, but I'll try a few games with it now
cool stuff. now lets make one for armor and hp and hp/sec!
That's a good tip on Nature's Reckoning (Wreckoning ). 250*.15 = 37.5, and that's assuming it only hits one enemy. Although a lot of the abilities overlooked in that table make a huge contribution in the use of the item, for 1500 gold that's pretty good.
- Do you know if "nearby enemies" counts the enemy you just hit, or only things around it?
Hmmm I think your calculations are off.
Take for example, Slayers Wraps :
Cost : 3300
Effects : +30 DMG. 10% chance to do double damage
Base Dmg = 160
Base DPS with +30 = 190 / .69 = 275.36 (rounded)
Critical Damage = Extra 190 every 6.9 secs = 190 / 6.9 = 27.54
Full DPS = Base + Crit = 302.9
DPS per 100 Gold = 302.9 / 33 = 9.17
Gauntlets of Brutality :
Cost : 400
Effects : +25 DMG
Base DPS = 160 + 25 = 185
DPS per 100 = 185 / 4 = 46.25
Natures Reckoning
Cost 1500
Effects : 15% chance of 250
Critical DPS = Extra 250 every 4.6 secs = 54.35
Overall DPS = 214.35
DPS per 100 = 214 / 15 = 14.29
Incremental is also fine to use, however, difficult to adjust for crits and you have adjusted the wrong way.
It should be DPS / Attack per second. So +25 equals an extra 36 DMG per second not 17.25. The efficiency of the guantlets at level 1 is unquestionable
it hits in any enemys around your DG
It's not 190 / .69. Should be 190 X .69.
.69 means that I attack .69 times every second, 7 times evey 10 seconds.
Regarding factoring in criticals, 1 out of every 10 attacks will be a critical hit. A critical hit is 2x damage. 10% proc X 200% multiplier X 190 damage = 38 damage per attack, on average.
(190 base damage + 38 crit damage) X .69 attack speed = 157 DPS for Slayer Wraps.
Reggie's base DPS is 110. 157 Slayer DPS - 110 base DPS is 47 incremental DPS for Slayer.
Appreciate your critical eye. Hope the clarification helps. I still have the model open so if this sounds wrong, let me know and I can adjust.
Awesome post!
I was always sure Guantlets of Brutality was the best value. Nice to see I was right. Although I never considered Nature's Reckoning being so high up there. Now everyone is going to be using it.
Sorry yeah, I was looking at it as an attack every .69
I'll just get my coat
I was thinking though, about trying to work it in a comparison to Health and Armour.
So incremental damage of 17 versus 400 Health + 5HP/sec. Maybe should be done in a head to head price bracket table.
Don't have time to do this as i gotta go home now. But would be easy to set up a model of Base DG with Gauntlets vs Base DG, Base DG with Health vs Base DG, Base DG with Gauntlets vs Base DG with Health. To see what would be more efficient.
I am leaning at the moment that stacking Health and Armour is way more efficient than stacking DMG.
The thing is, this is all based on a very bad edge case; a level 1 regulus is not going to have any of these items. A level 20 UB with stats Ashkandor, and Inner Beast will probably get more DPS per 100 gold than he would add from some of the "higher" value (for your money) items that are just a base increase in damage, which work out well with an autoattack that has low base damage.
I calculated some values for Regulus auto-attack build some time ago... if you sell all items for Ashkandor, except Gauntlets of Brutality you'll have around 750 dps single target at Level 14. Your HP will be really bad though: 2700 and 3500 with Blood of the Fallen.
390 DPS with AF4 (6150g) Lvl 10580 DPS with AF4 (13160g) Lvl 12 (48 steal/s)752 DPS with AF4 (18400g) Lvl 14 (90 steal/s)911 DPS with AF4 (21700g) Lvl 14 but only 2700H
I noticed the natures reckoning thing before...
only thing is I dont think it actually damages the person you are targetting when it goes off, just things nearby. which actually makes it add 0 dps
lukkas_ROCKUS great post man, +1 Karma
+1 karma nice post ^^Some one should make one for hp/s
also to note at level 20 this chart might be a good deal different.
ie. you do 10 damage at level 1 so something that adds 10 damage will increase your dps a lot more than something that adds +5% attack speed.
while at level 20 you might do 100 damage so something that adds 10 damage might actually be less effective than something that adds +5% attack speed. actually no it wouldnt in this case but you get the idea.
which actually is helpful to know when playing say Regulus because sometimes its better to take the stat bonus skill instead of taking higher levels of the wings skills depending on how much you are hitting for.
Yes it will. I tested this.
i confirm this as well
