there should be a ban for leavers ! I know its pointless to play when you know you already lost but comon its totaly rubbish to quit the game !
should be a ban for 20minutes or something like that
what you think ?
I think this idea is so bad that it would get negative karma if this forum had it.
First of all, you are a hypocrite. You say it is pointless to stay when you are leaving... but that people should be banned for it, and that it is "rubbish" (which you never define.)
Second, the only thing that needs to be changed is to give a proper leave option that doesn't cause a disconnect message, and a concede button.
What makes you think a rage quitter is going to be considerate enough to use a concede function. It's an emotional act.
Should not be implemented in a game that's notorious for disconnects. Bad. Idea.
Its a great idea. It wont stop ppl that want to quit...to quit, or stop alt-f4 peeps to do so....but its nice so the remaining ppl dont need to fight a boring game thats already been decided because of leavers....without being called lamers.
Plus, by being a system to punish disconnects more than what it would punish a concede.....would pull ppl into using this....thus avoiding the whole deal
Wrong. Noone wants to sit and get rolled for 20 mins. I (and a lot of others it would seem) don't give a shit if you think this somehow makes your game feel cheap, get over it. I personally have never had to leave a game but if I was playing a 4v4 and it turned out it was 4 pros v me and 3 nubs I'd seriously consider it.
Seriously, you are making the game design flaws sound like player issues. Noone plays a game to sit and gratify YOU by letting you walk all over them for 20 mins. The momentum is such in this game that come-backs are very very rare and in most cases it's easier to conceed defeat than sit and watch the 4 DGS who are 5 levels above you rip you apart.
Moapy just nailed it.
I totally agree.
I agree there needs to be some kind of system to the Rage Quit issue. My argument for that is supplied here:
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/353722/#2227240
Now, I agree and disagree with Moapy. I agree that not every case of someone leaving a game is spiteful and that this game has a long way to go to be perfect. I also agree that "pros" don't gain anything from beating a person into the ground that doesn't know up from down when it comes to playing.
Where I begin to disagree is the fact that to start: people have a way of learning the game. It's called Single Player. Granted, it isn't as good as playing against another human but if you are beginning you don't need to play against a human player. You need to learn the basics. If you are new and you have friends that want you to play, have them create a game where you all can play against a computer enemy. After you get your feet wet with your first Demigod then think about embarking into online arena.
A group with new players could also allow everyone in the lobby to know beforehand so that a choice can be made as to continue to play or not.
Whilst you're right you haven't thougt about the fact that you don't know what you don't know. Newbs dont know that single player is the same or that it's gonna be such a pain to their team that they are new or that they even need to ask. A simple ranking system that says I have 1 star rating = I am really new to this game would straight off mean that new players don't NEED to know what they dont' know because everyone else can tell them.
Actually the other morning I was in a game against -Reb- and two others on a map Crucible, with a total newbie player like me, and one relatively good player Shibbysomething.
We were in a dominate game three on three...and we got dominated badly, but I still learned a lot about what works and what doesn't.
Crucible is unfortunate in that if you are getting your butt handed to you it becomes decidely difficult to turn the tables as there really is only one lane.
instead of this banning shit there should be a forfeit function in the game.
That should make the matches way shorter.because most of they time you've won but you just have to destroy there base,Wich mostly comes down to cap the 2 portals and upgrade to giants asap.Anyway FORFEIT BUTTON PLZ
It is my understanding that there is skill matching going on in the background (in Pantheon mode of course). Connection problems and the limited pool of available players at any given time both pose problems that hinder the effective use of a skill matching system.
I agree with a large portion of your post.
once again we're forced to confront the awkwardness of not having a proper Concede or Forfeit button.
I agree that there should be some kind of quitting system installed for those people who've already given up hope of achieving victory. That would be a quick way of fixing a lot of people's issues. However, that doesn't help with the people that are still going to continue to Rage Quit even when that is implemented.
Maybe the Rage Quit thing urks me more because I've been playing Left 4 Dead since beta. I host a public server for versus games, also. For those that are not familiar with the game it's a 4 vs. 4 setup. 4 Survivors, 4 Infected(Zombies). This game has been plagued with the "Rage Quitting" phenomenon and I think it shares a lot of similarities with Demigod in its dilemna.
The root problem lies in no reliable reward/punishment system in place to keep people in games. Now, as many posts before have said: there is no such things as a perfect system for controlling rage quitters. I understand there can never be a perfect system. Something is better than nothing though, wouldn't you agree?
To play the Devil's Advocated Moapy, it would be safe enough to say that if a person can't figure out that being new to a game is going to get them stomped, I'm sure they're not going to understand the purpose of the star system. Does the system increase with the numbers of games I play? Wins? Losses? Flag Captures?
How many posts do we need to read about people screaming about how bad it is to get into a game? I would say that about 60% are connection issues, the other 40% are about people complaining about people quitting the moment they're killed.
I'm not saying we gas these people and their families, I'm simply saying that if the community began to show these people that they won't play with them if they want to quit every time the coin toss doesn't go in their favor it might go a long way to get people to try playing more often. The connection issues are bad enough. I don't want some poor loser to leave simply because he was ignorant enough to run into our towers and get killed for it, and think that he can just waste my time when I'd spent the past 15 minutes just trying to get into a game.
