There needs to be a consiquence for people talking about innapropriate stuff in the chat feature. There were a couple of users who were talking about dildos, and were saying stuff just to upset people who were trying to chat about the game.
The users were Belier13 and Apika. I find that without any sort of ignore function or way to not listen to their crap other than to not use the chat feature at all then I have to stop using it. If I stop using it I might as well quit because there is no other good way to interact with the community as a whole. Oh...
AND Frogboy was playing a match instead of monitoring the chat. Goodjob, I asked several times for you to do something and no response, what's the point of being in there if you don't even pay attention to this stuff?
You do know that Frogboy is a real, living person and needs to eat, sleep and have a day off every now and then, right?
I'm not saying that nobody should keep an eye on what is going on in the IRC but you can't monitor it 24/7. The IRC is not like a forum, wher you can quickly scan a topic for trolling and stuff. It's pretty hard to moderate a chat even with a bunch of mods and admins.
He was online, he was in a game, his tag was in the chat feature. If they aren't going to monitor it then their tag shouldn't be in there or they should just say right out that they aren't going to. I play games to relax and have fun, not to be subjected to filth. I am not offended, I just don't like to waste my time reading that crap when I would rather read ideas on the game or something that doesn't consist of some prepubecent childs wet dreams.
I often play against Belier13 and Apika. They are good players and good people. I've lost every time I played against them (LOL), but atleast I enjoy their company.
I think that the devs should just implement an optional filter you can activate or deactivate depending on how much of a sensitive individual you are. I have no problem with people swearing in gamechat. Infact, I get frustrated when some AUTOFILTERING hinters me from seeing what they were saying.
cheers
If you have a screenshot of what they were saying you can post it in "The Hall of Shame" thread. Not sure if it will do any good, though.
A mute button would be nice, however. It should be mandatory in online games.
It's not about swearing, it's about having to put up with bullshit trolls talking about stuff that has no business in a public forum.
And I don't care if they are good people and good players. It's not my job to have to put up with their crap. They act like kids in the chat feature where there is no way to filter them out. If thye want to talk about stupid shit that has no relevance to the game, then they can do so in a private way, but not in the public chatroom.
I believe the IRC command for mute is /ignore <nick> not sure if it works in the demigod client though
Stardock should also read up on and consider bots to police the chanel for foul language, flooding and other easily detectable badness. Real human mods are of course always better, but bots can take a lot of stuff off their shoulders
While I, too, would like the chat to be wholesome, when it comes to what constitutes "bullshit", everyone has their own limits. Bots can only go so far in filtering words. The best solution may be to have a chat moderator warn individuals about their conduct on a case by case basis. Either that, or it's up to the community to self regulate, and ask the perceived offenders to pursue their conversation elsewhere.
God forbit you read something you don't like.
I understand people swear online in games "cuz its fun" and "cuz its cool" but there is a certain point to where I also get tired of peoples dirty language online. And this game DOES have young kids on it as well as older folk so people should watch a bit of what their saying to a certain extent. Swearing has always been online as long as I have been on. But when you get into the sexual obscenity thats taking it too far in my opinion. That that crap elswhere.
No.
It will take up valuable programming time and do almost nothing, as filters are ineffective at best. Let me demonstrate: D1ldo. The only thing that actually has some effect is an /ignore function. Still, a much easier way is for you to grow up and get over it which will take no programming resources that were actually being applied to something useful away.
Secondly, no just because the CEO of Stardock is logged in to chat does not mean he has to a: be there, b: protect you from dildos or c: care about your dildo related difficulties.
Can you tell "omygosh my sensibilites"-people really annoy me?
All we need is ignore function.
some ass times poo it rape is testies difficult boobs to arse read bugger around filth the balls flood crap of nipples swearing.
Particluarly when you are haveing a HELL CRAP DAMN conversation and it gets mixed up in the middle of what you're trying to SPHINCTER read
Grown up people don't want to hear obscene crap to begin with.

Those aren't really "grown-ups", it's kind of a nebulous hybrid stage which combines the entitlement and pride of an adult with the fussiness and rudeness of a child. So then you get people acting like some kids talking about dildos in public is some kind of horrid crime against man and nature.
The grown up part is not talking about dildos, its the part where you get over it because it doesn't matter if someone talks about it. Just to be clear, I don't talk about dildos in chat. I just would rather they fix the far more important issues the game has instead of worrying about your delicate sensibilities.
What would Jesus do if he entered that chat and saw people talking about Dildos?
Thats right, send them straight to hell!
*shakes head with dissapointment*
