I love Stardock, I love WindowBlinds. I love you all!So please, give me a date, whatever, tell me I will be testing WB for Windows 7 soon, very soon. When?Explain: Because I love you all I'm acting this way, the passionate way, expressing intense feeling about that.Just tell me WHEN I would be testing WB for W7?!?!?!
"Can you tall me please, which one's Pink?"
Both sides of this issue have valid points that need to be taken into some vaguely serious consideration.
Eye-candy like Object Desktop's components and many of Stardock's non-game products have to plug into the O/S at a very low level in the GUI and video stacks. That means when things change like they did from XP to Vista and again from Vista to Win7 this type of software is much more complex to revise into compatibility. Users have to understand that.
However there have more than once been overly blunt, sometimes bordering on rude posts by both experts and a handful of employees. A couple of times I have read replies where the inquirer even states up front they understand the can't support it yet issue and are simply looking for hints at timelines and/or progress toward Win7 compatibility.
In a community environment like Stardock, which is part of why many of us continue to buy the products and participate in the community, people do expect a more open and freindly atmosphoere of information sharing.
Please people, on both sides of this "debate," be civil and polite. People want to know how the work is going and even if they don't ask politely they should get a reasonably polite response.
Trolls need thumping!
careful with that troll thumpin....
Wow!, ok, I get the point. Nice to see SD has so many dedicated supporters. I do honestly respect all the opinions, I gave you mine and you all gave yours. I knew vStyler was a very popular user name, just wasn't sure of his position. Sorry vStyler. I would venture to guess that SD will be receiving very few inqueries at this point regarding the release of WB7. My initial thoughts of SD is the same, I think the service they provide is outstanding, and that goes for the skinners as well. With that said I will humbly fade off into the sunset.
Forget Win 7... WB 7!!! A little dicky bird told me that work has already begun on Win 8 and 9... and what I wanna know is if Stardock's gonna pull its finger out and have a fully functional WB 8 ready for the pre-alpha release of Win 8 next month, and WB 9 ready for the pre-pre-pre alpha release of Win 9 before X-mas?
If not, I'm gonna throw a tantrum and spit chips!!! As a paid up subscriber to OD, I have the right to these things, they should be made available... and that's that. Not only that, I want Stardock to have that new touch-screen Iconpackager feature that makes coffee, hot chocolate and tea ready as well.
I want whatever you're having. Nice
Back from hibernation again, just for you member 1.170.718, AKA starkers...
not really....only one ov 'em.....
he just gets around alot....
OOPS! Nothing personal, you know. Think of it more as a metaphorical troll.
Metaphorical thumper
You sure about tha, Uvah??? I got a feeling it's the gall stones... and they're creating a toxic enzyme that's going to my head, thus causing me to have weird and wacky thoughts.
Wait a minute! I've always had weird and wacky thoughts.... ever since I was a suckling babe, and concocting devious ways to soil my newly changed nappy (diaper).
Anyhow... on topic:
While Win 7 RC is the final release prior to RTM, Microsoft announced there still may be some code changes on its Win 7 Blog. While we are using the RC, it is an ongoing state rather than a defined one. In other words, the RC may be tweaked in accordance to feedback from users, particularly 3rd party developers with compatability/functional issues.... the blog refers to telemetry and making the RTM as fully funtional/compatible as possible for users and MS partners alike.
So, given the RC is an ongoing state in which variables can change, it would be futile for Stardock to develop a shell integrating version of WB when the shell itself may be subject to change during the RC period. If WB did not integrate into the shell it may be a different story, but to develop WB7 for an evolving RC and have to start from scratch for the RTM would be a waste of time and far too costly for a small company.
Stardock is NOT MS Corel or Adobe, either in size or resources, so it's a matter of being patient and waiting for SD to release a copy of WB7 it believes is suitable for public use. It may very well have alpha editions on the front burner, but obviously they are not ready... and why would Stardock release an unfinished product to be inundated with complaints that it doesn't work on this or that machine, etc.
We'll get it when it's done.
Back from... Oh well, forget about that hibernation thing! So, Starkers said:
As with my first reply...WB7 will be 'just around the corner' after the one where Win7 is...
Re the 'not complaining'....there isn't a warning sign big enough that you could place on a beta capable of thwarting EVERYONE's attempts to complain. Guaranteed you'd get them anyway......
It is likely that a beta of WB7 will show up well in advance of the proper release of Windows 7 and that the final release will be out very near (either before or after) to the Windows 7 launch date.
This is what I'm waiting patiently for, Neil. I love SD's products and have no complaints (that's why I don't really chime in on these "When is 'product x' gonna be released???" forums). If I have to wait, so be it. No need rushing to get an incomplete product, ya know?
Though I DO miss my WB and mycolors..........
Thanks SD. I know when WB7 comes out, it will friggin' ROCK!!!!
That's great news, Neil, I look forward to it as I do not use Win 7 as much as I'd like due to not being able to customise it more to my liking. It's a great OS, but will be greater once WB and other Stardock apps are working properly in it. However, I am prepared to wait for these things to arrive, rather than have alpha editions which may have issues during the early stages of a new OS
Win 7 is not RTM yet, and MS announced that the RC may be subject to change, depending on partners, 3rd party devs and user feedback, etc, so I'm not expecting Stardock to rush out (possibly unstable) alphas/betas at this time, given all the variables in configurations/hardware, etc.

I would purchase Windowblinds right now if I knew I would have a free upgrade to WB 7. Somehow, I doubt that will happen.
I was a huge fan of Vista, but since using builds 7000 and 7100, there is honestly no reason to use Windows Vista. While 7 does have bugs, it is extremely stable.
I hope you guys release a beta version soon so I can purchase your software.
Straight from the mouth of the creator. That should quell the gimmee-gimmee's. (SHOULD)
Gosh! I wish I knew when a beta would be availalbe.
You so naughty, Zebra boy!

You haven't paid for WindowBlinds 7. You paid for Windowblinds 6 and it's updates. You don't deserve it. This is the gimme-gimme attitude that is being spoken of.
