This guide is for those who are having trouble dealing with any kind of military difficulty. Even experienced players may learn a thing or two. So pay attention.
1. Focus your fire. Don't just let your ships attack on their own. If each ship targets one enemy at a time, that target goes down quicker, and that's the less damage your ships take. Remember, you don't want to create a huge fleet and find it was good for only one battle.
2. Don't spam seeker vessels or any ship of that equivalent. Your just wasting resources when you could send just one to see what your foe is made of. Remember, seeker vessels are not meant for battle.
3. The best way to deal with enemy spamming is to spam as well. Remember, each ship has some sort of weakness. Javelis frigates are equally matched, and can also take down battleships from a distance. However, you might want to attack first.
4. Make sure your fleet is versatile. If you have a fleet made only of assault ships, they'll be picked off by bomber squadrons and Javelis frigates. If your fleet is made only of Javelis frigates, you will have no protection from bomber squadrons.
5. Civilian research can also help in battle. I'm pretty sure no one would like to travel from planet 1 to planet 74 one at a time when there's a nice, fast wormhole system that can take you to planet 74 within seconds. That wormhole research can make the difference between utter destruction because of slow response time and swift victory with the element of surprise.
I hope this guide was of assistance. May you fight harder and be victorious.
The only problem I have with that is the third comment. A properly balanced fleet will massacre a spam fleet in every circumstance. Spamming solely the hard counter to whatever the unit is will just weaken you in the long run whereas balancing your fleet for longetivity and multi-purpose will let you counter any tactic your opponent uses.
I have to agree with that, but I wasn't talking about spam-happy fleets. I was talking mainly about the AI. Their fleets are balanced and can masacre any spam-happy fleet in a fair fight.
I am not sure what you were saying but this is how I see it.
Spaming is probably your last ditch effort in protecting your fleets. If you are good, your fleet is always well balanced. and beside even if you destroy a portion of the enemy fleet with your spam next thing they bring is something that can kill off your spam. You only delay the envitable.
Kinda hard if you are using dynamic battle system
Wait, my bad that's what you meant. Sorry
Dynamic?
Oh, by the way, spamming may also help to bulk up a balanced team. If you know your foe's main battle strategy, you can spam ships to counter that strategy, and create a few other ships just in case.
Hmm, I think a good one to add, is to ensure that you position your ships correctly. If a ship has guns on multiple sides, Caps/ illuminators, make sure it is in a position to fire as many as possible. For instance, the death egg (evacuator) has a wave array that targets frontal targets, but it has beams down either side that wont fire unless there is an enemy to the side, try and position the egg to be facing the enemy line down an angle so its beams have targets as well as it's front.
If the ships has only front facing guns make sure it cant get flanked, by keeping it at max range.
Dynamic Battle System, a mod by mansh00ter (i think it's him, but not positive), where ships don't sit still during battle, but move around, creating irregularity and making it harder to keep a tight fleet.
unless, of course, your opponent spams something in the beginning, and while you are busy spamming a counter, changes strategy and balances out the fleet. your few backup ships probably won't be enough. I think that spamming as a counter is a very simple and risky tactic, but if done at the right time, will do better than a mixed fleet (assuming you still have some repair ships, eg just instead of having a mix of flak, LF, carriers, you do mostly LRF to counter a LF spam. i'm not sure if fighters are a good counter to LF, but you get the idea)
Wait a second , bombers arent that good against long-range; fighters are!
(Hope i dont sound like a smart-ass , People say i do)
Not always true. Remember that building ships takes time. If I get to the frigate factory supplying the ships in time, I might be able to get a huge advantage. Not only that, I'm pretty sure any credits the enemy supplied to create those ships would be wasted.
To some extent, yes. They are good long-range ships. However, their weapons are only meant for anti-bomber tactics.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
Um no fighters are good against bombers and LRFs. The devs developed them so. Check out this forum it explains the idea of armor and damage.

Know the whole thing, thnx anyway
Wow, you're right, thanks.
Fail
You also say that spamming scouts is silly
I suggest you go have a chat to Raging Amish and then report back!!!
These are conflicting statements... Javelis frigates are evenly matched against what? themselves or other LRM. because they aren't - the cost less, use less fleet points and have less health so you need MORE to equal illums or assailants!!!!
You civic tech talks about a tech (wormhole) that is high level. It doesn't mention anything lower that is useful such as resource upgrades, planet pop upgrades etc... which can give you higher incomes and therefore a better economy long term (you need to survive enough for it to pay itself back before you get much bonus...)
Thanks for that link, it's extremely useful!
Damn right Hack. Spamming is not a failed tactic. If your opponent spams one ship, spam the counter. Spamming is not a bad option if it's retaliatory and strategic.
Would it be considered "spamming" if you're just creating a certain number of said counter to counter your opponent's spam?
I would think that the term "spamming" implies blindly making a ship over and over again with no real strategic thought behind it. But what do I know anyway; maybe I'm just splitting hairs on the subject. hahaha
I agree with you Exterm. I think spam, as a term, is abused. A true spam is dedicating all resources to produce a specific unit as fast as possible, which can actually take quite a bit of thought to do efficiently. Changing your fleet balance to react to your opponent is not at all spamming.
So, you're agreeing with me here?
By the way, colony ships don't do any extra damage to any kind of ship. Check the ship info in-game
Actually, they're also good against any light-armored frigate. Again, check the ingame info.
And I already used that, genious. The others just told me!!!!!!!!!
