Here is the problem: Powerful favor items give an advantage that is staggeringly overpowerd in the early game. Someone at level one with the serpents blade, or a similar extremely powerful item will without a doubt, rape his opponents, as there is no possible way they can buy anything at that low of level to combat it. (To all the people who say "Well, just unlock the favor items yourself"--you are retards, and have no concept of what makes a game fun--here is a hint, it isn't getting raped because you haven't played enough games)
The issue here is that this game isn't like COD4, where if someone has a higher tier weapon than you, you can still have a decent chance with better reflexes, etc. Sure, you have a tiny chance but barely one at all.
Don't get me wrong. I love favor items and love working toward a permanent reward for playing.
So how can we fix this? Simple. Institute a system where more expensive favor items cannot be used until a certain war rank/level. Probably war rank, as this would guarantee the game had progressed to the point where the opponent would have the chance to buy items that would give them a chance.
For example: Favor items between 0-200 points could be used from level 1/war rank 1. Favor items between 201-350 from level 6 and higher, and favor items more expensive than that from level 7 on. (This is just a rough estimate, needs more tweaking)
The point is that expensive favor items are ridiculously overpowered at low levels, and make the game both unfair and unfun for those who don't have them. This is not how it should be.
One last note for any detractors: I don't care if you want to "pwn bitches" with your serpents blade at level one, when it's someone who is playing for the first time. Go play WOW or some other shitty game where everyone else in the community is a dumb as you.
Except that "enough games" to not get raped is like 4.
Give me a damn break.
I feel like this is a matchmaking issue more than anything. People who can't afford the cheaper good favor items have only played a few games, and I shouldn't be playing with them at all, short of custom games.
Also, one of my concerns with your suggestion, line0042, is that favor items that were only available at higher war ranks would have to be ridiculously good to compete. Economically speaking, a small benefit now has to be counterbalanced by a large benefit later, and this is exacerbated by how much of an advantage an early kill is.
I'd suggest that the favor items should be balanced so that you pick them because of your personal play style, not because one is better than the others. And I think that isn't as far away as one might think.
however, I wouldn't mind if brand new players started with about 500 favor instead of 0.
They start with 150 I believe. I wouldn't mind if it was more per se, but the Charm of Life is actually an excellent beginner favor item, because it increases survivability and reduces the death penalty, and newer players will and should die, as it takes a little while to learn when to run, when to chase, how much damage a certain demigod can do in 3 seconds, etc.
Failure is part of the learning process, which is why an item that reduces death penalties is an excellent choice for beginners. In fact, if anything, I'd start newer players with 0 favor, but with that item unlocked automatically.
this is ridicolous
totally nosense
first you would have to rewrite completely favor items, and then still ppl will prefer to play FROM the start, better a slightly advantage for ALL THE game, then a favor item when the game could be already decided
uh no your not, your trying to suggest what YOU think would be fun for everyone and not listening to those with other opinions.
Favor items are as they should be. the only problem with them is that the favor system itself(gaining favor) is broken.
my fav itemis the +800 health one for dudes with little to no health it helps alot like reg or qot
swift anklets are good on every dude but are pretty much needed on rook
if someone has favor items and you dont its unbalancing and ruins gameplay.
so host your own games until they get fixxed and just disable them in options.
Besides that experiment with favor items in singleplayer mode so you know which ones you prefer so you dont end up wasting favor buying all of them for every character.
Give rental favor items for a cheap favor price; players will have to buy it again next time. That way, people who didn't farm/grind favor points can still just jump in and play at a fair level. They will also be allowed to test a particular favor item without donating a kidney.
That's not a bad idea, but I feel like it kinda is a waste of favor points that people might not want to make. I don't know why people are so opposed to this.
Look at favor items like powerful artifacts, which they basically are. You can't play with them at the start of the game, because it would be silly and unbalanced.
Imagine if somone on the other team started with mage slayer, or ashkandor, before you had any chance to buy a similar weapon. Would you have fun? No.
Restricting certain favor items to a certain war rank is no different than having artifacts be really expensive; by the time the game has progressed about halfway through, you can use really powerful items.
Hmm.. until recently, it took an hour just to get into one game that didn't crash/disconnect in the first 2 minutes. And now my favor doesnt accumulate.
Perhaps all favor items could start out weaker and gain bonuses as your war rank goes up?
Example:
Swift Anklet = 10% ms bonus + 1% per war rank
This mitigates the early game problem as well as giving more flexibility to favor item power (some could be better early game and some could have big bonuses unlock late game)
This could also fix the weakness in many favor items that don't scale (Who cares about 40 damage late game?)
infin so at lvl 10 war rank it will be 20%
No, you cannot preclude proper answers to your own false dilemma by calling those who would provide the answer 'retards' in order to arbitrarily dismiss the proper answer and thus give the false impression that you are making a good case.
You darn well can go ahead and unlock them yourself in order to not get owned by them.
Favor items are supposed to be POWERFUL achievements, that's what the back of the box says. That is why they are fun.
Your suggestion to nerf them just because you are too lazy to earn them for yourself would make the game unfun if it was implemented.
Favor items should never, ever be nerfed.
Yeah. Something like that. It's only an example.
What's really funny is that none of the favour items are even comparable to those two artifacts. Not to mention that you can get some of the best favour items with less then 3 games worth of favour.
With that mindset, why don't we remove favour altogether?
You say I can't call people retards, and yet you tell me to get the favor items myself when I have stated, three or four times that I ALREADY HAVE THEM. You are retarded. Thank you for your worthless input.

Also, no one seems to be understanding that many favor items are probably still fair at lower levels. Just not the really, really powerful ones.
That's not a bad idea. And I agree, lots of the favor items are totally worthless, and this would give a lot more variety to what people choose.
So you quoted someone who made a completely wrong and worthless contribution and didn't say anything yourself...Congratulations.
line0042 I'm not sure the stick-up-your-ass approach is furthering your position very well. You may want to try something else.
He said all that needed to be said on the matter.
No, he said something that wasn't true, assuming that I don't have favor items, which is a big point people make when trying to argue against me, which is wrong, and a logical fallacy as far as the argument goes. And Shadow, eat my dick, I don't care what you think about my approach. I started off polite.
Favor items will discourage casuals if they reset.
When they hover the DG icon it will be like a commitment. Either you play enough to get your favor up so you can compete on the same level or you just skip it altogether. Most people are not going to want to jump in here and there to play against people with a clear starting advantage.
Hopefully matchmaking attempts pairing people with roughly even favor to avoid that.
If not, I think it will detract from the overall playerbase. Good, bad, or don't care... that's what will happen. As for me, I think more is better.
