ok, i have this idea for a new faction (and no, i dont mean adding the Empire, Babylon 5, or Halo into the mix, i mean a completely new faction)
Get this, ROBOTS!
Ok, these robots (who i have yet to name) would be the remains of their maker species called the "Sarojen" that lived on a junk-planet. due to a programming error, these robots have annihilated their creators, but soon after and felt a type of remorse for the mass genocide. wanting to keep the memory of their deceased creators alive, they expanded their borders to spread the culture (i mean the memory of the makers, not colored space lanes) of the extinct species. while conquering another species in their quest to keep the makers "alive", the TEC received a distress signal alerting them of a new force to be reckoned with...
in short, they are machines that want to take over the universe because that is the only way they belive that the memory of their makers can survive.
their ships would look like they were made in a scrap yard, mostly because that was what their home planet was like. their main tactic is not culture spreading (now i mean coloring in the space lanes) like the Advent, nor is it having many very weak units like Starcraft's Zerg; but they rely on the power of versatility. An idea of mine is that they would be able to attach frigates to their capital ships, therefore increasing the power, health, and armor of the capitals.
different types of frigates boost certain abilities of the capital, for example:
attaching a planet-bombing frigate would increase planet bombing skill (what else?)
or docking a heavy frigate (like the Destra Crusader or equivalent) would give the capital a more advanced version of the frigate's attack (which i think should be a barrage of short-range missiles).
etc.
The planet type they prefer would be junk-planets (i think you know why) and instead of having a ship or building that heals your forces (such as a repair bay), they regain health by killing enemies (by reclaiming the wreakages).
this idea seems like it could fit into the Sins cannon quite well i think (i hope you think so too)
That is my idea, i hope that i have explained my idea to the fullest. if you have questions or comments on this idea, please ask or whatever. and please, no hate-mail.
If you want to make a mod about this idea (not that anyone would, but have to state this) please ask me first...
Thank you for hearing my idea

Very good, sounds like a game from a LONG while back where the ships were made of living tissue and could "consume" others to become more powerful. Also, like the Nod Avatars, the Mordor orcs, or other things I can't think of.
Anyways...
What would be the planet bombardment for them? Radiation/neutron bombs to kill the pop. but leave the infastructure intact?
How about defences? Mabye a giant shield (reverse of the TEC shield, like the Advent's ability but really good)
Possible tech.:
Universal factories: Both frigate and cap. ship factories perform eachother's function.
Universal research stations: both are the same
Universal Ecoemy: tade ports and refineries perform both functions at once.
Scavenge resources: Destroyed enemy ships/structures net 5/20/50% of origional worth in resources.
UCS from Earth 2160, that's what it was! My fav team in any RTS ever because you could build 200 or so refiner bots and literally drain all of the resources on a map in an hour or so, leaving none for the ememy!
wow, i didnt think anyone would like this idea, and i have not heard of Earth 2160...
i think the resource looting thing should be a mid-level research that increases with tech level.
defense is a megnetic turret that "rips the hull off of ships" and heals itself or other ships nearby if the turret's health is full.
i like the idea of universal factories, but instead of the trade/refinery mix; the ships should have weapons (weaker weapons of course, but enough to defend themselves)
radiation should be the bombardment technique, robots can survive radiation, organics cannot
(and yes, the Nod Avatars ROCK!)
Well, if any race were to be added to the game, I would agree it should be a robot or cyborg race. It's the one major thing missing from the Sins universe presently. We have our "classic" humans, our "telekinetic" humans, and our "alien" aliens, what we need now are the hyper-efficient techno faction to cover all the stereotypes.
i had this idea! the voices of the ships should either be: techno-robotic English; clicks, whirs, and beeps; or binary (1001010010101110)!
Wall-e and HAL 9000 (for the voices, R2-D2 is overdone), HAL could be the voice of the advisor; "I'm sorry, Dave. You can't buy that yet"
Any word on the organic ships? I'm curious about the game.
Also, they wouldn't need colonization techniques, and their strike craft could survive immense ammounts of damage (more armor from no cockpit/life support).
The superweapon is... (c'mon think people!)
you cant have a super faction (it needs to be balanced)
their culture buildings would "try to reprogram the machines on opposing planets to their cause"
if they had uber strike craft, they would have swarms that lack a ship or two.
superweapon=the ability to turn the buildings in an opposing gravity well into a small fleet (bigger fleets with research)
Now, if only the devs could hear this idea (you guys seem to enjoy it, it might go well with them)
"Resistence to the Makers is futile..."
you know how each faction has a second defense (planet shield, antimatter regen, etc.), well, the robots should get a viral center that has the ability to disable a certain amount of ships in a radius (more targets with research).
wat if the strike craft, instead of being uber awsome, were like suicide bombers, and could infest enemy ships and make them work for you for, say, 10/25/40 seconds (with research) before they blow up from hardware crash?
That sounds pretty cool but I think if the devs were going to add a new faction it would be whatever is chasing the Vasari, unless the robots are
well, why cant it be the robots?
if we are going to try to get the devs to hear this, we need to give them a name; "The Robots" isnt too threatening. I was thinking that they would have taken the name of their makers, the Sarojen (the name can be changed)
Sounds alot like the tecno faction in Masters of Orion. really cool idea though. The audio voice sound could be modem sounds or other classic mechine sounds. (Microsoft Sam? lol)
so you mean that one of the sounds of the capitals could be the wierd beeping noises you get when you use dial-up? (it'd be kinda cool.)
i hate dial-up
for HAL 9000!
also very good. id crack up hearing these voices.....for the first few times. then theyd get annoying like the voices now.
maybe the vasari made the robots
Or Tec, could be like the voyager thing in the first star trek movie
More ideas:
Independent Economy: Makes ships cost 15/50/100% less credits and makes metal and crystal from trade as well (replacing credits) because honestly, I don't thing robots get an hourly wage from work...
Overclocked computers: makes research happen 10/25/66% faster (not cheaper)
(These are ment to be changed later)
Skynet: All planetary defenses aim and fire 40% faster and planetary bombardment occurs 200% faster as well
Eagle Eye: If a scout ship enters a planet, it can kill itself to launch a series of probes to see all activity on a planet, only removable by bombardment
Colossus: Stops culture spread to you by 90% and sets minimum allegience at 60%
Superweapon: This is the best idea ever!
Blackout: The enemy can't give orders AT ALL (if your culture has taken over) for 3 minutes. Also, they can't build or get resources.
Now for the ships:
Nanite repair/salvager cruiser: Has NO weapons, but can repair your ships/structures at an astonishing rate of 100 hp/sec. Also can (with research) net an additional percentage of resources from enemy debries (like GLA junk from Generals) at the same rates for a 100% steal!
It basically is a TEC carrier but with a giant (and I mean giant) cloud of dull gold nannites arround it that make tiny light flashes (solar cells reflecting light). They piggy back on the ship when entering phase space.
Antimatter cruiser: The other support ship, has NO weapons but makes an infinate ammount of antimatter ment to be siphoned off to the larger ships. Can be attached to a cap. to double it's antimatter (loses 1/2 of it's power gens. to dock, but can be recycled by/\/\/\)
Suicide ships: Self explanitory, does light damage but only takes up 1 slot and can be mass produced (for a swarm effect).
Refinement ship: It is their colony ship, sacrifices itself to make a colony or mining asteroid (the structure can't be built, but this turns into 0 on fleet supply and can be re-packed up)
NOOOOOOOOO its quite well balanced now, dont hurt it!!!!!!!!
good ideas demma, but keep in mind that to be in the game, they cant be over-powered.
I had an idea, instead of a suicide ship, through research, all frigates can self-destruct to cause harm to the enemy or heal the fleet.
another idea, since all ships are junk-based, at least one of them needs a huge gear in the middle!
If robots come into play, I want to see self replicating sentient replicating cells. Just like the Asurans in Stargate Atlantis, they were intended to be used as a weapon, but once they achieved senteice they were destoried, but some survived, and became an even more powerful mockup of their creators society.
Maybe in sins, they create them for war, but are unable to use them in time and are taken out by the Vasari maybe? Then they take the form of their creators and act as them and try to find an organic species that is biologically close to their creators, and try to recreate them!
i like the idea wkw, it makes some sense.
Here are the Asurans

Better video
It seriously looks like Sins TEC/Advent pact fighting them. Hell, advent warship (equal one to Kol) LOOKS AND SOUNDS like a wraith hive..
I'd also like to see something as epic as this..

Anyone ever read "Prey" by Michael Crichton? Nanorobotics and it's war applications (along with a good story); it shows how deadly (if not stupid, since the good guys always win) nanites can be if they gained semi-sentience (major sp prob. I know...) and how it would work and multiply to control all.
good book
