This is how I hope Demigod looks in 12 months time:
That's about it I guess. Note that I said I'd like to see the game look like this in 12 months not that these things should take 12 months to be implemented.
Thoughts?
Agree with most of this except the 16 demigods. My view is the more the better. It seems to me that the appeal of this game is adapting on the fly according to what the other side is capable of whether that be defense/support oriented demigods or offensive.
Yes 16 a little too many 10 - 12 Max would be good so another 4 They would probably have a hard time with diversity
so
i heard there releasing 2 a month so arround about 20 by december
and i think more the merrier u can't have too much off a good thing
Two a month is hardly feaseable. More like 2 every six months. By the end of the year, I expect 2-4 new demigods, free mind you. They're saying the first two are free, so let's hope they keep it that way.
they said they were
This gets brought up quite often, however if I remember rightly the maps in Demigod arn't created using a map editor - they're created using 3D Studio Max and are 3D Objects as opposed to tile sets like Warcraft III. I don't think we'll be seeing stand-alone custom map editors like WorldCraft, however I think we'll see 3D Studio Max tools released to help dedicated fans make their own maps.
As for 16 Demigods, the more Demigods you have the less personality and importance each one has - 16 demigods, up to teams of 5, have to be able to work together so that there isn't just one "Ultimate Combo" that trumps all. DotA failed at this and instead just added in so many heroes they don't have to balance anything because they can just say "Well, if you lost, try a different Hero". I'd rather see 10 great Demigods that are well balanced and work together in any combination than 20 Demigods where 8 are decent and the rest are filler content.
Moapy -
Good post! Free from the usual "Hey Brad, do xx or I'll quit your game/get a refund/curse you/RAAAAAGE" nonsense so common these days. Your post has the quality of reasoned thought free from malignant presumptiousness.
Stay on an even keel; looking forward to more good ideas!
Oh, and for you.
You raise interesting points and yes I am well aware that DG isn't a tile based map game, but I know for a fact no matter what they build maps in the community will be able to use it or learn to use it. It's actually a good thing the maps aren't easy to make this way you don't end up with < 1% being awful because people will have to actually put in time and effort.
I totally agree on the demigods, I'd only want to see ANY added if they were unique, original and balanced. Sticking in a paladin or a wizard or something would not fit the unique originality of the game at all (i really want a mechanical/steam based hero) but even more important than that is balance. Right now I think DG is a pretty balanced game (insert Eribus QQ here) and adding in 2 DGs a month would totally ruin this there is no way you can balance a game by incresing its core content by 25% a month (25% being 2 added to 8). 2 or 3 in a six month period is more realistic and will still bring a myriad of balance issues. Content updates shouldn't focus on DGs alone.
I like your list but I'm not sure about 16 Demigods.
I would rather see say 12 Demigods and have their abilities and options expanded on so that they play much more differently than today.
I worry about having too many Demigods because it dilutes the impact of each one (in GalCiv we kept adding races and people stopped really having a "favorite").
Agreed froggy BUT you also have to take into account the fact that there are a lot of players who would really like a LOT of DGs (see dota this and dota that posts). I'm not necessarily agreeing with them just saying there is a high demand for it. I think with the right amount of creativity and lateral thinking 16 totally unique, interesting, lovable and balanced DGs would not be too hard. GPG needs to go read some China Meiville, Steph Swainston or Jeff Vandermeer for some ideas maybe?
What I'd hate to see is a bunch of boring generic class types like WoW. One of the most awesome things about the DG mythos is that each and every DG is interesting and unique, keep it coming.
One more point I forgot: I really like the way DG works now these are just suggestions for moving forward and keeping the game interesting.
KenoLFD - Thanks mate! to you too
i would like to have like 20 over like 3 years so 4 a year because there a quiet few possibles that have yet to be done
and the expanding on the already range will mean more skills
will that also mean more skill points like the max going from 20 to 30
Good point actually,
the game doesn't need 93 heroes like dota. it doesn't even need 30. quality can be greater than quantitiy.
oh so true but you really go to look at all the lttle details on the maps too like on exile the foot spining in the background and the pilar part
More is NOT better. More Demigods means more balancing issues, fuck that. I'd rather have 12 Demigods at the most that are extremely balanced with a counter to eachother than have DotAs stupid 80 OMGZ hero things that are unbalanced to hell and back. DotA sucks, end of story. The only respect I have for it, is that it inspired the creation of Demigod. And yes, I've played DotA.
I hope they don't release too many Demigods. Too many is gonna cause nothing but balance issues, it is just not gonna work out.. I think twelve is a decent number of Demigods. When you start to factor in each item, each ability, each demigod, each build, etc... it ends up being too much to balance... like DotA which is asbolutely unbalanced. Gawd I hate that game and it's elitist minddead community.
I think between 12-16 at max. You have to remember these aren't mortal little heroes like in DotA.... it wouldn't even make sense to have bazzilion gazillion demigods, it's just stupid. These are the most elite and powerful people/creatures of the games world, there should only be so many of them.
I agree. 12 Demigods is a nice number that can be easily balanced and tweaked.... and now that you mention it, expandable abilities sounds great too. I really don't want too many of them because it would just lead to balance issues (as I said already). And since Demigod is so focused on it's tight and balanced gameplay, it would just break the game to have to many.
12 Demigods, each with a ton of customization in skill sets and builds sounds better. And like you said, having too many dilutes the impact of each Demigod, makes them *feel* weaker, less powerful, rather than an elite human, creature, or whatever battling for godhood.
12 Demigods Proto? not like 200 but.. thats the unit cap for Starcraft and its really popular.
if my experience with games online is any indication, it doesn't matter what time frame you pick: people on forums will find some thing to bitch about.
You could develop a technology that turns poop into gold, and people will be upset that they have to first poop (not realizing how much worse it'd be to turn poop into gold while still in your intestine).
First of all you didn't say no to map editor so woot!
Second of all 2 new demigods for each side by december I don't know. I'd rather have variety over a select few guys.
I didn't mean to come across as bitching I was just making suggestions for what I would liek to see. I didn't make any rude demands or moan (except for crashing but I think that's understandable), I just stated a few things that would be cool.
I think this was caused by not having much of a history for each race, and races appearing too similiar. Races played too much like each other, too. Planets built mostly the same way, and combat was almost always who had the bigger ship.
Galciv3 should improve it a lot though, hopefully they add in weapon ranges and rate of fire. Populations for races that differer (some like war, others hate trading with anyone, ect).
The level editor will probably be released for this game sooner or later - from what I hear beta1 had a functioning one but was removed.
As for heroes - 14 would probably make a better number. 3 new heroes for each side, rather than 2.
4 demigods, than concentrate on improving abilities of the released. After a while release the last 2.
This is too clever.
Ok let me try:
Demigod in 12 months time..
Connecting to players.. please wait.
I think in 12 months I would like to see at least 4 new Demigods and 4 or so new maps. I'd like to see some additional items for favor or new items implemented to purchase. In a game like this, you really need to have constant additonal things being put in. Not because the game gets old, but because it keeps things interesting and exciting.
Basically as long as we get some new stuff every 3 - 4 months I will be very happy.
