Playing Sedna kinda has a drawback...you will basicall get no award whatsoever..there is no way you'll get damage..there is no way you'll get upgrades, because you can't kill creeps fast enough...I'm not trying to bash her, because she's quite good..but there needs to be a support award for healing/buffing teammates.
its true that there should be an award but u are very wrong when u say that she cant top dmg and stuff like that.. She might be even one of the most powerful demigod's. u just have to know how to play with her.
Agreed.
Though I do disagree with the damage portion, there should be a top healer, but the calculations for a best support would get very complicated due to aura boosts, item factors, etc.
I agree that there should be a support award.
Though it is entirely possible that the kind of gods that would throw some demigods into an arena and make them beat each other into a bloody pulp are not the kind of individuals whose favour you gain from healing the wounded. Bastards.
But then how do you balance the favor?
I don't see how any other DG could beat a determined Sedna to the award. Then you just get 'I turned up' favour (provided a lot of people dont start playing Sedna to get the new favor award)
If thats not the case.. Do you count self healing? Do you only count healing done to other DGs and minions? It becomes a bit of a problem to fairly allocate the award.
I daresay somebody who ran around supporting like crazy would be pretty miffed if somebody playing a regen Erebus bit more people than a hospital full of rabid and emotionally disturbed teenagers and won the "helping other people" award.
i think there's a relatively easy fix that i'd like to see implemented in an upcoming patch.
currently Rank IV Heal deals a small amount of AoE damage (200) to everything in a radius around the target you heal. this damage isnt really enough to make a huge difference in combat but it is enough to tap creeps so you get your share of gold and exp when they eventually get killed by something else. its also enough to make sure you get Assist credit on a DG that gets killed by whoever you just healed.
this mechanic should be expanded and utilized for all 4 ranks of Heal. 50 damage per rank should do it, not enough to unbalance the ability at all since its a small amount of damage. just enough to get some Assist credit.
That is an awesome idea transitive, I'd welcome that.
Reward for healing is biased against Demigods who can't heal, therefore it is inherently unfair. Therefore it is a very bad, unbalanced idea.
I agree to a "best support player" award... like for assisting, healing, buffing, etc. But not strictly a heal award as Fixmyfavor had already stated.
Reward for flag caps is biased against rook because he is slow. See how that makes no sense either? And it's supposed to be a healing/support award.
Also, all demigods can heal if you purchase the universal gadget.
Thats hardly competative when you have to spend insane amounts of gold to even keep up.
Reward for doing damage is biased against support demigods who can't do the same damage as other demigods. therefore it is inherently unfair. Therefore it is a very bad, unbalanced award.
An award for assisting already exists, but only counts kill assists. Why not just adjust this award to account for healing and buffing allies as well. The award could be based on a scaled point system. This would give healing Demis and fighting Demis the same chance to receive the award.
Could have it an assist is worth shielding, healing, or stopping damage equal to the demi's health. Sedna still has a huge advantage but really you should be rewarded for playing them like that.
Yes exactly ubersmurf I agree. Which is why I said I agree there should be an award and then proceeded to present some serious issues with implementing one
You know, I realized I don't even care if it's purely based on healing...are people really going to complain that their sedna player got an award at the end of the match for saving their asses the whole game? Frankly this might inspire more people to play her, which would be a great thing, as she's not getting much love right now. I would be completely OK with her getting the healing award every single time.
Hang on a minute there. What you said being valid is dependant upon if damage by Generals' minions is counted as damage by the General DG himself/herself in terms of award. Is minion damage attributed to the DG in award calculations?
Hmm. I haven't had a problem getting gold with Sedna. In fact, in the early game, I find it easier to get gold with her because of her staying power. She can stay out in the field much longer than any of the other demigods. Long term she might have issues but between cleave items and heal IV, you can still get into the gold at the later stages.
It isn't really that complex.
Healing would get points for every point of useful healing done to allies (no points for overhealing).
Shields would get points for every point of damage absorbed to protect an ally (so, no points for shields that do nothing).
Then, when the game is caluclating award winners, you scale the healing, shielding, and assist points for each Demi to determine a winner.
I have a feeling that the game code wouldnt recognize dmg negated by a sheild. Pretty sure it just counts it as 0 not -xxx
Well, the absorbtion buffs (like Bramble Shield) have a function that decrements the shield. Adding some code there to increment a score varible for each point blocked would be easy.
Invincible buffs (like Oaks Shield) set a variable that gets checked when the player takes damage. Adding a check to see if they are under the influence of a shield buff would be easy. If the check comes back true it could increment a score variable for the amount of damage that attack was supposed to do. This may also require an extra line or two in the BuffAffects.lua file as well.
All in all not much work, really.
The shield has a certain amount of hp, so it'd have to register as damage dealt and not zero. Although, Oak's shield might be an issue.
I think the award should count potions used (mana included) and Universal Gadgets, possibly even potions/scrolls picked up from Demigod deaths.
Should it count healing done by Priest Idol minions?
i think they should just expand the assist to have the healing anf sheilds then lazy asses who surrport people can get the assist award
yes minion damage gets counted towards the General's damage when calculating awards. When I played Sedna as a pure minion general, I would rack up lots of damage even though I personally never got into battle.
I'm speechless and not in a good way.... i've re-typed this post like 3 times trying to articulate how idiotic that statement is but the english language just doesn't have the means to express it.
