Okay now that you are reading here is how I got there. According to people that believe in the religion of evolution; over the course of billions of years animals evolved from single cell organisms to the animals we have today. The problem with this belief is that we have this thing called volcanism and plate tectonics. Every few hundred million years the surface of the earth is replaced. New York one hundred million years ago was on the equator, the planet suffered an ice age that lasted a few million years. Suddenly 65 million years ago there was a sudden explosion of life on this planet. All the species we see today started 65 million years ago. If this evolution thing takes billions of years to happen the planet has not seen billions of years of a stable climate in order for this evolution thing to work.
There have been at least three ages or three separate climate changes on this planet over the last four billion years.
The first age:
The planet was molten and had a average global temperature of five thousand degrees. That is half the temperature of the surface of the Sun. I think you will agree that in this age there would be little chance of any cellular or microbial life of import.
The second age:
The Earth cooled and water suddenly appeared on the planet. Here is where we have the chance for life. The issue is that the atmosphere, the air is made up mostly of Nitrogen, Sulfur dioxide, Carbon dioxide. The water had so much carbon in it that the water was mostly carbonic acid. The animals that showed up then thrived on sulfur and carbon releasing the oxygen. Volcanoes produce the sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide in huge quantities. No species that is alive today could live in this environment. The problem with the animal life that lived in this age was themselves, they polluted the air so much that it became toxic to them killing them off. Well it killed most of all animal life, this life can be found at the bottom of the sea near volcanic vents where the conditions are like that near the surface when they were dominant. These animals are just like the ones we have near the surface but they adapted or “evolved” to the new environment. Crabs, lobsters, clams and other sea life thrive in this new toxic environment.
The third age:
The Earths orbit changed and the wobble of the Earth in conjunction with the volcanic actions caused an ice age that lasted at least two million years. This ice age covered the entire planet to a depth of two miles. This would prohibit most life we currently see on the Earth today. The tectonic plates are still moving around but only 65 to 200 million years ago did the ice melt. The sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide that were the dominant gases in our atmosphere suddenly became trace elements and the released oxygen became the dominant gas. Allow me to be clearer, the atmosphere is roughly 80% nitrogen all other gases make up the other 20% animal life cause that 20% to change depending on the surface conditions. Trees and plants like coral feed on carbon dioxide. The animals and plants that feed on sulfur are mostly gone. The carbon is dwindling now so we are going to start losing trees and plants. The current life on this planet is running out of fuel i.e. carbon dioxide. When that happens we will run into the next age of the Earth. Since the plants feed on carbon dioxide and the animals produce carbon dioxide the plants are consuming more that animals can produce. Because of this the ratio of carbon and oxygen is changing and the atmosphere will become toxic to the plants that sustain us.
What is happening now on our planet is that our oceans are boiling away from the heat of the Sun, and volcanism. This is not new; scientists have proven this back in 1972 with Apollo 17, if memory serves, hydrogen and oxygen is leaving the planet by the metric ton per second. With out that element we will not have water. As the Sun expands the Earth will get hotter, and more and more gases in the atmosphere will escape as it did on the planets Venus and Mars.
With the different ages happening just under every one and a quarter billion years how did this evolution thing happen? Evolution could not happen in less than a billion years according to the people that believe in evolution. For evolution to happen we need a stable environment for billions of years. Science has proven that we have not billions of years of a stable environment. Now if evolutionists wish to claim that it takes millions of years, for all life to evolve into different species then they might have a chance to be correct but scientific evidence does not support this. Man did not become the dominant species till ten or fifteen thousand years ago along with all the most all the species we see today. This happened after the end of the last big ice age. So now we have to have all species evolve in less than a million years.
Think it through and you will see that evolution as stated by Charles Darwin and his supporters and the numbers don’t work.
No.
But, this is what Darwin thought and what his theory of constant change giving rise to higher life forms was first based on at least in part. He suggested that the environment forces each species to adapt and somehow acquire new and higher genetic information to its gene pool. For this to happen the transmission of genetic material to the offspring through DNA would have to occur...but it turns out it's DNA that prevents emergence of new life forms something which Darwin didn't live to long enough to see.
Who, exactly, says you don't have the right to believe in the Bible?
You know I added the edit at the end because I didn't want to edit the line itself because people would say I was hiding it. It was something that came out wrong... for the second time.
Please don't misunderstand me, it is not what you said or how you said it. I just wanted to read her point of view on the subject. You are always free to express yourself.
Your hypothesis is flawed in many ways for one you don't seem to get most any of your facts strait.
There was a mass extinction 65 million years ago not an explosion of life, the Cambrian explosion happened some 580 million years ago is that what your referring to? The biomass of the planet was far greater in the time of the dinosaurs than it has ever been since and the majority of species survived this event.
Absolutely not there are thousands of species still thriving today that were around long before the dinosaurs demise.
The snowball earth theory is only a few years old and is still hotly debated. It wasn't until they found drop stones near the equator that it graduated from hypothesis to theory but all this proved was there was a period of extreme glaciation which most geologist agree with but it doesn't necessarily follow that glaciers covered the whole earth. Glaciers do not effect volcanic activity for instance but even if the snowball earth theory is correct there are numerous ways life forms could have survived this and the earth came out of this some 630 million years ago and before the Cambrian period.
On an evolutionary time scale the time it takes to go from a virus to a crab is far greater than from a crab to a mammal so the majority of evolutionary work was done by very hardy creatures that most definitely could have survived just about anything mother earth could throw at them.
Honestly for someone whom claims to love science you sure are caviler over it's methods.
I find fault with this, here is why. If you look at the fossil records you find dinosaurs below the KT boundary but none of the animals we see today, above the KT boundary you have the animals we see today but no dinosaurs. This explosion of life began when the old world died. There are no transitional species recorded so that would rule out evolution until you find some. The DNA findings show that we do not evolve as suggested because DNA’s sole purpose is to replicate more like itself. Solar radiation bombardment causes some mutations but few that allowed for replication, I say few because I have not read of any but I am open minded enough to allow for the possibility. Man supposedly came from the great apes yet we have not seen any mutation to support this theory, and the three percent difference in our genetic make up has held firm for as far back as scientists have tested.
The Cambrian explosion as it is called is the only fossil records of their kind and only found in Australia, if I remember correctly, the issue I have with that is the geologic records show that Australia 300 million years ago was where Antarctica is now and as it moved north most of that area was under water and is now inland. The plates moved really fast during that time, as much as a foot a year, there was not enough time for much to evolve in the 30 million years that the height of this explosion of life could have produced. Also there is the problem of the fossils being only of sea life most of which have not been found anywhere else on the planet so far.
Depending on the brakes and the rotation of the Earth most of the Earth has been replaced, for example. Every year California gets smaller because it is sliding into the sea. It used to the North American continent was moving west at one inch a year, in the 70’s it started to speed up or we just got more accurate but now we are sliding at 2.5 inches a year. In 6 years we lose 1.25 feet of the entire west coast. In 100 years we lose 20 feet. Not a lot but if the planet continues to speed up and slow down over a million years that is almost 40 miles of land mass being replaced How much land mass is replaced in 65 million years, or the 580 million years of the Cambrian explosion. Islands rise and fall all the time. In 1964 off the coast of Iceland an island popped up and it was then that scientists realized that Iceland is not as old as they thought it was. Every plate there is either the production of land or the destruction of land. Man has only been around recording history for a few thousand years. We have learned a lot but we still don’t know it all. 600 years ago the smartest people around knew for a fact that the Earth was flat.
Okay now name them alphabetically by geographic location. I don’t doubt what you say, I welcome it. Those that have survived have evolved how? They have not changed in millions of years, so either they are perfect and have no need for change or we still don’t see and evolutionary process at work. More proof that evolution as postulated by Mr. Darwin is incorrect. Even animals in the Cambrian explosion have seen no real change, we have some that are not around anymore and some that are still here. There are some that are close to what we have now but not the same. That is where people who believe in evolution hang their hat as proof of evolution.
The snowball earth theory is only a few years old and is still hotly debated.
Right, just like evolution is hotly debated, as far as only being a few years old, I studied it in school in 1975 it has only been accepted by the community as a valid theory rather than a discredited theory back in the 70’s. You see the theory came from a bug paleontologist not a geologist so no one in the community wanted to accept it. Only after 25 years of being put down and ridiculed did anyone begin to investigate his findings and wow! His theory of the Atlantic conveyer was right! Maybe his theory of Snowball Earth is right too? Then in the 90’s they started to study lake Vostok and found it was possible for the Earth to be covered with ice between 1 and 3 miles thick and not kill off everything on the planet. I don’t think that it is hotly contested or debated anymore.
Once again we run into that time frame issue. If as the scientists are correct that we had this Snowball called Earth it happened 700 million years ago, and lasted for 12 million years. The Cambrian explosion happened 500 million years ago meaning the explosion was happening during the thaw while most of the planet was still covered by ice. We know that there were lush valleys where the Sahara is now 12 thousand years ago so the planet was still in its thaw back then and global warming had not dried out the land tuning it into desert, We believe that there were successive ice ages after the Snowball as evidenced in the geologic records in North America and at that time period New York was sitting just above the equator. With all the cold when did all these species have the billions of years to evolve into what we have today?
Not at all, I think I was not making myself clear. Look at it this way. If you stay within one scientific discipline the focus becomes narrow and over time becomes stale. You know it all because there is nothing new to learn and the rules are fixed and comfortable. Outsiders taking their discipline discover things that have to do with your discipline their findings are ignored because they are not of your ilk. They don’t know what they are talking about. Plate tectonics was first postulated over 100 years ago and did not become the accepted theory until the late 1940’s now it is accepted fact. This discovery was made by a school child pointing out that the land masses seemed to fit together. Does anyone remember the school child? The teacher that said the child was wrong? Nope.
and to prove what Paladin and I have been saying about the many teachers out there........here's today's news about another teacher getting caught and penalized.........it's about time.......
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,518864,00.html
I like the fact that this Christian Student is not looking for monetary compensation. That's a good witness for the faith. He just wants this to stop and be recognized for what it is. Suppression of his 1st Amendment rights.
It's about time?
While I understand your joy about the belief creationism not being able to be discarded in the classroom, to want to penalize the other side for expressing their belief is hypocritical.
The proverbial pendulum needs to be kept in the middle, with both sides being able to express their opinions without fear of legal (or otherwise) retribution. (If that means offering both sides up as THEORIES in a classroom, so be it.) To express happiness over someone else being penalized for this should mean that you should be happy when someone of your own beliefs is penalized as well, as that is equality.
So the teacher's not permitted an opinion? Hmm.
Teacher happens to be as likely correct as the Creationists in this case. He should counter-sue for being sued.
It's OK, BTW - flame away at me.
I think you missed the point. Americans have been told for decades that if a teacher mentions God in any way that is favorable, that teacher has been fired, sued, and smeared by the secularists. The reason for this was the teacher is a representative of the government and can't promote any religion. Now that law is being used against the secularists and it is now unfair and hypocritical to do what has been done to believing teachers since I was in grade school. As a government representative the teacher was prohibiting the child from the belief and worship of his chosen religion. Gee it might not have been such a good idea to persecute teachers that believe in God for 40 years, the pendulum is swinging back at them and it seems they can't complain about it.
What I found shocking was that it happened in California, the most liberal judges in the nation are there and even with that the secularist lost so he had to have gone way across the line for that to happen.
Daiwa, you are correct, the teacher is not permitted an opinion, just like the Christian teachers are not allowed an opinion. Had the secularists had left it alone and not pushed so hard to eliminate religion from a school system created by Christians. Okay, they pushed hard and won now the other side is fighting back using the same laws used to silence Christians.
History lesson:
There was no such thing as a free public school until, I think it was the Methodist that started the first public schools. It spread to other religions and was paid for by the church collections. Then the government took over the schools and unified them into school districts and tax money was used to pay for teachers and buildings. Once that happened those teachers became government employees, and subject to the constitution of the states. Once federal money started going into the school systems they had to adhere to the Constitution of the United States. Using that as the basis some one sued to get prayer out of school because in allowing prayer even silent prayer was the establishment of a state religion which is unconstitutional. Now we have cases being won because secular teachers are pushing their religion of secularism and one kid caught him on tape. This is not the first case that was won and it won't be the last.
Harvard, Yale, Princeton were all religious schools that seem to hate religion now.
Did you even read my entire post?
I say this now (when it's the secularist being punished) because I would say it if it were the non-securalists being punished as well.
I don't care what side you are on... it's wrong to be penalized for your beliefs in America.
To be glad that "the other side" of this OR ANY argument is being penalized for their beliefs just because you feel as though you have been treated unfairly is petty and vengeful (both very un-Christian, for all the Christians that are happy about this), and will eventually result in the right being taken away from everyone. (Imagine two children constantly fighting over a toy. Eventually the parent gets fed up because the children can't share, and takes it away completely.)
The proper reaction to this would be: "This is another example of how our rights to express our beliefs (no matter the subject) are being taken away. Let's put our differences aside, and fight to ensure that we have the right to debate about our beliefs in the future."
But perhaps that is too hard for people...?
Intelligent Design ---> Philosophy
Evolution, etc. ---> Science
That is the only way I would support it, because frankly, there is nothing scientific about Intelligent Design, nor intelligent. As Robin Williams says in the movie Man of the Year, not verbatum, "This doesn't look intelligent, it looks more interesting."
~Alderic
Okay... so just say that the scientific theory of evolution is an option of belief, however, the philosophy of creationism is something else that is also an option. Most school classes are intertwined in several different ways, so it isn't illogical to mention the philosophy, even if you don't go into detail about it.
Indeed, Intelligent Design, as far as I'm concerned, is a belief system. It is a flawed one and belongs in philosophy; it just is not science, hard or soft. If someone would show me how a scientist can falsify such a thing (or God for that matter) - then I'll buy it.
Until then though, it's a philosophy as far as I'm concerned and does not deserve to be categorized as a science. To me, that is the heart of the issue; Is ID a science or not? Is evolution a true scientific theory or not?
I guess it would help if more people were better edumicated.
You would have to ask the Idahoans... I bet they think they are very scientific, but by the way they drive... I don't know if I agree.
(Honestly, I do not know what you are referring to with "ID")
This text is replacing a double post.

Exactly! If it's not okay to push your religion on someone then pushing your "lack of religion" on someone isn't okay either.
ID = Intelligent Design. (Btw, touche!)
You postulated two events that were supposed to make evolution impossible both of witch are incorrect.
1) There were extinction level events so great that evolution would have had to start over again this is false.
Many species survived the KT event and no I'm not going to list them alphabetically with their geographic location the information is readily available do your own homework. Insects such as the cockroach, dragonfly and centipede and many small insectivore mammals, the largest air breathing animal being the crocodile. There has been no known event so great that evolution would have had to start over again in over a billion years.
The reason many of these animals have remained relatively unchanged is not because they are perfect, just good enough not to have to adapt. The more hardy an organism is the slower it will evolve.
2) That geological and climatological instability would have somehow hindered the evolutionary process.
In fact these instabilities are necessary part of the evolutionary process and the more instability to a point the faster the process occurs. Geological instability separates populations and climatological instability forces adaptation.
Another important thing to note is that one species does not slowly morph into another one. Populations are separated and sometimes the original population is hardy enough or is not subject to enough pressure to have to adapt and can remain relatively unchanged for a very long time such as the crocodile and the shark. The other population may be subjected to a different environment with different available food and will have to adapt. Population are separated again and again until you could have dozens of new species arise while the original population could still remain relatively unchanged.
It's surprising how many people don't get this and ask questions like "if man evolved from apes why do we still have apes". And evolution is absolutely not "hotly debated among biologist. There's lively debate over the various possible mechanisms on how it occurred but not if it occurred. It is considered the unifying theory in biolog.
Even ID proponents like Michael Behe whom came up with the "irreducible complexity" argument do not argue against common decent only that it couldn't have happened without a designer.
He's referring to Intelligent Design, aka Creationism.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_design
Yeah, what he said! Good point.
Oh she knows.
Yes, I did read it, it seems you did not bother to read mine, though I could be mistaken. The teacher was not punished for his beliefs, the teacher was found guilty of depriving a student of his rights. The teacher is allowed to have an opinion but when in a classroom the teacher as well as any government employee is forbidden to express certain beliefs. While as a contractor to the government I can’t discuss partisan politics, religion, or dissatisfaction with the current administration without penalty. If I choose to do any of those things then I will pay the price. Teachers are informed of this same rule and he chose to ignore it. Now there is a loophole for us all. If we are asked our opinion we are free to give it without penalty. So freedom of speech is not restricted, we just can’t give unsolicited opinions while working for the government. If a Christian teacher is asked in the context of history or science about his beliefs he is free to express his opinion and beliefs. The same with the secular teacher. The liberals demanded that children have rights in order to disobey their parents and get away with it for their liberal beliefs now it has bit them in the butt.
