OK, i expect to pick up a LOT of flak for this, BUT i will freely admit that i prefer the TEC to the other races (I rarely play as Vasaari and i have never even finished a game as Advent)
I favour the TEC because i like the look and feel of their ships, i think their capital ships are the best and i really love the strong economy you can build up quite easily (especially with the Trade Facilities on the Argonev, 6.5 credits per second each, great!), the strong economy and the reduce ship build time reseach allows you to rapidly and cheaply replace losses, and the ships themselves are great.
also...there is just something...satisfying...about winning games as TEC. as if you'd saved the human race from annihilation.
BUT, what race is your favourite, and most importantly, WHY???
"Passed" is an entirely different sort of thing than "Understood," "Aced," etc.
I see...
The writing test im talking about is the one we have to take to graduate High School
I got Trinity for Christmas and im playing it some the Advent chick on the cover is a looker so i might be persuaded to the advent side but the TEC still just feels right to play as
That chick is the best looking advent there is...It's all downhill from there
to true if the were all as hot as her all guys would join the Unity
I have to say that Vasari are the best race, especially if you can micro. A nice sized fleet of Subverters with some Desolators with phase missile barrage will decimate any fleet, especially advent. Yes TEC has a nice credit economy, but Vasari is good for resources and blackmarket (also researched cost decreases can mean big powerful fleets). The Death Egg has won games for me before. Phase Stabilizers are an amazing technology to get. I started as TEC because they are simple to grasp and then moved to the more complex Vasari. Altogether the game is pretty balanced though.
I want a mixed faction.
I would take the Radiance, the Halcyon, the Discord, the Illuminator, the Garda, the Orgov, the Marza, the Akkan, Skirmisher, the Jikara, the Jarun Migrator, the Antorak, the Enforcer, Iconus, the Karrastra, the Serevun, and the Sulsurak.
Probably have mixed same-classes in there, but you get the drift.
The opening sequence of Rebellion suggests the possibility of a mixed faction later... I'm guessing when the x64 Sins2 is released.
Going with Rebellion, I have to say the only factions I am remotely interested in are the TEC Rebels (because the Ragnarov rapes face - and also happens to be named after me ) or the Vasari loyalists, especially on massive maps. With the Vasari loyalists I don't even have to worry about defence - I just life suck every planet I come across and permanently remove it from the game. Another tactic I use with the Vasari Loyalists is to have ten or so Desert/Terran planets turtled up and linked with phase stabilisers for a decent economic base, then life suck everything else. The Titan's phase stabiliser spawn or the Antorak's stabiliser ability means that if one of my planets is under attack my fleet is only one jump away - this breaks down a little on multi star maps but on single star maps I have roflstomped many a hard AI using this strategy.
Adding to this, I find the two cap ships that stand out for me are the Marza and the Space Egg. The only thing the Advent have going for them, in my opinion, is their cap ship combos. The Animosity/Venegance/Shield Regeneration combo can trash whole frigate swarms at a time and multiple high level Halcyons with bomber swarms and their extra squadron abilities can pretty much trash anything you like without even coming into engagement range. That is, until my Titan micro phase jumps down their throat, my Enforcers distortion field their engines and my Subverters put them to sleep, all the while with my Junsurak swarm chowing down happily on their fighters. Alternatively Marza missile barrage and Kol flak burst for equally roflstompy results on an Advent bomber swarm, obviously supported by Dunov shield restore and those cute little round ones to heal up their hull. The only disadvantage to these strategies is if the Advent player also happens to have a Radiance, a Rapture and a Progenitor - but then again, if their fleet is that large odds are my fleet will be equally hefty and their Animosity won't be able to get much of my ships.
Also the Antorak is the sexiest looking ship in the game, hands down.
Protoss with sentries guardian shield, force fields, massive shields, aoe attacks from the colosus and storm.
No, just no. Kortul and Vulkoras are way, way sexier. The ring part of the Antorak is plain wrong (even though it makes sense in regard to phase stabiliser ability) and the spikes on it are just gay. You dont see that shit on Kortul/Vulkoras - therefore they win by default
Phase missile Barrage(or whatever the Desolator's Multitarget damage ability is called) does not have phase missile bypass chance. It's thematically "phase missiles" but id affected by shields like any other ability damage.
Only phase missile weapons systems(not abilities) actually get a phase missile bypass chance.
even without phase chance you can destroy entire fleets at once. I had about twelve of them and some suberverters, a star base some sentinels and enforcers, got an AI to jump into my gravity well with about 55 enforcers a bunch of Caps and support fleet and decimated it all while losing just to sentinels.
Phase Missile Swarm got a big buff in Rebellion - mostly because of the 4th level. At that level, it does 690 damage to 14 targets which is almost 10,000 damage with the press of a single button. Not quite to the level of the Marza's Missile Barrage, but it has a short cooldown and can't be interrupted either. It is now one of the best combat capital ship abilities in the game.
And I have to agree with Timmaigh, the Vulkoras is the best looking ship in the game.
I was mainly pointing out that with no bypass chance there's no real synergy between Desolators and Subverters.
I agree wholeheartedly that Desolators can be a beast- it was your choice of supporting frigate I thought may have been a bit misinformed.
The best race in the game will always be the most technologically advanced
1.Vasari
2.Advent
3.Tec

Personally i think the advent rebels are the strongest in the game because of their late game. They can rampage anything with their titan, mothership, support cruisers and the now buffed Deliverence.
The simple fact is with superior fire power, the ability to repulse your enemy, confuse their targeting and motion is just soo muuch. I'd completely be pissed if i had a mighty fleet but was too disoriented by repulse to do anything about chastic burst.
If we are relying just on the Subverters ability to make phase missiles phase better there is only one connection-The desolator's main weapon is the phase missile I was also talking about their ability to disable craft. When the enemy doesn't have any weapons, abilities, or engines it's pretty easy to put a beating on them. (Plus tons of the things leaping across the screen are cool to watch)
Say what you will, the best looking ships in the game are the Vasari, and the best looking Vasari ship is the Antorak. Other Vasari ships I really like the look of are the Skiranta, the Vulkoras, the Lasurak and the Ravastra.
Derp wank. Ponies are best race.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. TEC are just awesome. Loyals all the way. Oh, you all want to expand and brawl it out? Okay, we're gonna build a wall of ships and cannons and bomb the crap out of you guys with nuclear artillery from the comfort of our living room. Checkmate.
-Huzzah!
Vasari
The somewhat weaker early game isnt much of a trouble thanks to early Orky.
Once in lategame and on a sufficient high tech level.... Vasari can steamroll about anything.
Imho Vasari need a nerf in the next patch.
It is quite satisfying to build a wall of space fortresses. Plus when you win as TEC, you feel "Oh, look at those alien wankers, I beat them with my flying metal boxes."
tec just look bad unless your spamming kols but if you did that then thats just crazy-or is it?
It's not crazy. Your enemy will laugh so hard that they'll have a seizure and you can win while they're distracted.
Kol-Haters gonna hate.
Vasari are best mainly for phase stabilization--my entire fleet can defend tons of chokepoints in one jump.... and my orkys can move, so your structure killing mass will have to be pretty big to rip it apart before it does some serious damage.
