Is there anything I can do to improve this? I'm getting 45+ FPS, but the game is playing like a slideshow with sim speed dipping to 0 at times. It's usually fine on 3v3 until the endgame where it then becomes unplayable. 5v5 starts off really badly and gets unplayable much more quickly.
Tried the nosound option and FPS went up, but simspeed stayed the same.
I also tried overclocking my cpu and was able to push it from 2Ghz to 2.65 and it didn't affect Demigod's sim speed though it affected many other games positively.
I'm now at a loss since it's not gpu related, audio related or apparently cpu related either. Most of the guys I play with regularly have sim speed 6-10, and I start 3v3 with 6-7 and then drop as the game goes.
what is simspeed
and your cpu is going to explode haha- very very very very few cpu's are that overlock friendly(and mobo's). do you have water cooling?
2ghz to 2.65 is quite tame, overclocking has come a long way the past few years. my cpu goes from 2.6 to 3.6ghz on stock cooling
whats your system specs and what setting are you running the game on, turn off anti aliasing and vsync in the options see if that helps or run on medium settings, but need more info to help you
what cpu's do you have? i made my pc 2 years ago and those are ridiculous overclocks, and you can't tell me otherwise, especially if you have first generation core 2
I recommend you do some googling yourself instead of asking us to do it for you.
To the OP, no clue sorry.
Play with /nosound option to increase simspeed. Although your gpu can handle the graphics, make sure you turn everything down anyways.
Play on small maps only like prison to increase simspeed.
how the fuck am i supposed to know what cpu's they have from google
stop trolling or think a bit more about what you post
Is it a dual/quad core? I'm running a Q6600 oc'd to 3.0 and get 9 simspeed. Multiple cores are sim speeds best friend it seems, SupComm engines utilizes them alot more than any other game.
I swear nobody even reads anymore.
I did play with nosound option as mentioned in the original post. The problem isn't a graphical related one and I get the exact same FPS and simspeed whether I run everything maxed or everything on low. (running dual 8800GT 512mb oc'd). This is what led me to believe it was CPU-bound. The fact that overclocking it that much didn't affect performance at all is what had me curious. The post isn't about overclocking.. and that is irrelevant to the overall problem.
It may in fact have something to do with cores though. Is anyone running a dual-core that can get 8+ sim speed on the 5v5 maps?
I've noticed my SimSpeed can drop as low as 6 and I'm running a Quad Core 2.8ghz, 2gbs of DDR2 RAM and a Geforce 8800GT although it's fairly rare. It's usually 9.
I know people that get as low as 0, and even lower -1/-2. Someone I know had stuff running in the background and it went to -5.
There isn't much you can do about it, make sure there are no unnecessary applications running, disabling your antivirus may help, just be sure to turn it back on. Unless they make improvements to the gamecode the only option you have is to buy a better cpu.
They never fixed this issue in Supreme Commander, so I'm not sure how much they will try and fix it here.
So your options are:
- Buy a new cpu- Make sure there are no uneecessary applications running- Try disabling antivirus- Try disabling sound (this will give you a very small increase, but if it give you more then you may have driver issues)- Try the Core Maximizer application that people used for supcom- In the game options turn Spawn rate to slow- Pick maps with less unit spawns/portals (like the snake one)- Make sure your CPU is cool, depending what you have they can slow down after 60degrees
Some maps run better, this may be directly related to the number of unit spawns. It doesn't matter how good your graphics card is, it will not help. Turning your graphics to low will also make very little difference for sim speed.
If you want to really test your system, pick a large map with heaps of spawns, use 5v5 General DG's only, turn spawn rate on fast. This even brings the new quad cores down to sim speeds of 1 or 2.
p.s In case you didn't know, press TAB to bring up the scores, one of the columns also lists your sim speed
what is simspeed?
It's a kind of measure of how well your CPU is performing in the game, and signifies how fast you can run the game. You can press tab to check your sim speed.
If you go into game options you can set the gamespeed to adjustable.
If you are on +4 sim speed then you can theoretically run the game at +4 speed, if you are on +1 you can run the game at normal speed. If you are 0 or -1 or lower then you run the game slower than required.
Also in a multiplayer game, everyone is throttled down to the speed of the lowest player - so if you notice your game feels slow (even if you have great FPS), then check the sim speed of everyone, if someone is on -2 or something then that is the cause.
Lastly this also means that the game clock might say 10 minutes even if you have played for 30 minutes, because you have been playing at a reduced speed.
Thanks Sheezwack, that explains so much. My super computer, the gamenstein, almost always has 4 sim speed
