Ok, being a former DoTA player, I was really looking into this game. But I've heard many problems about this connection issue and how its making
the game unplayable. How long should I wait for it to get fixed or if it will be fixed. Please help! I really don't want to blow my cash on something I
can't even play. Thanks
It's unplayable right now. I caution you to wait (and possibly try it out first) before spending money. MP is just not functioning.
Wait a few more days at least. There are more updates forthcoming. Today they upgraded server capacity and made joining games easier, but there are still a couple remaining connectivity issues remaining, namely 0ms/red people still in the lobby, some crashing while joining games, and occasionally there's unexpected dropouts during a gane where half the players drop out instantly for no apparent reason. Probably other issues too.
Gameplay is fun overall, but for most people, unless your the really patient type, it won't be worth the aggravation to get a game going. It should improve a bit more soon though and it's already gotten a bit better today, but it still needs some more work.
Funnily enough the biggest issues are getting INTO a game and getting it started. Usually when its underway it's mostly ok - other than the occasional lag or dropper for no reason.
What's making it so hard to deal with is the game is pure crack. It has the addictiveness of DOTA and it's just plain goddamn enjoyable.
love the game. get it, bear with it.
I thik the connectivity issues are a Boon bacaue people get to know the people they are playing with and form private games with them cause they know they can connect to them.
I really enjoy this game...but if you haven't bought it yet I'd suggest saving your money and waiting to see if they make the multiplayer fuctional.
The game has no mentionable single player campaign and is supposed to be focused on online MP...but said online play is unusable at this point. So this game has ZERO value till they either provide a satisfying single player experience and/or fix the online play.
That game is playable, though it's about half/half with people who can connect just fine and those who can't. The_Monk wrote a great guide to improve your ability to connect and the recent patches have made it far better as well.
Lan works fine and there are plenty of Hamachi networks hosting games, we're planning on starting a Leaf network as well.
I'd say pick it up, might as well even if you chose to believe the first poster. Shelf it and play it later, but at the very least you should play through some single player matches to get the game down.
If you're a dota player then you should know how important it is to know your hero and not wast time fumbling around with items or builds against others. Else you get people who join online matches, sometimes ranked ones at that, and then ask where to buy equipment..
Yes, it would be far more fun to learn against humans, but you should be able to connect fairly well (I don't have any problems since the last patch, before that it was a crash from time to time and only be able to host custom games and not join custom games). Even if you can, you can be positive and see this as a chance to learn the game, not just the hero you like but heroes others will eventually fight against. Know thy enemy, as Master Sun said.
Hardly unplayable... a hastle to get into games, yes. But after five minutes of searching I've been able to get into a round that started almost immediately whenever I wanted to play online, though there were some latency issues, seeming to stem from players with 300+ pings with eachother. THere are quite a few games that will tell you that you failed to join, and people are really making alot of password protected games, but it only takes two seconds to find out which ones you won't be able to join.
Hold off if you're not too excited about the game, though I really see no reason to not buy it right away. It's not like it's going to drop in price by the time the problem is fixed in the next few days. Just get it right away and practice in singleplayer, its already helped me out a ton online.
I was able to get into a couple custom games last night and had a blast. However, overall, it has been a HUGE hassle to get into games.
the game is playable if u know how to deal with routers etc, or just have a smooth setup already
if you arent tec savvy wait till next week
and exagration is fun but the game is far from "unplayable"
I never said the game was unplayable, just the online mode.
I've tried about a dozen online matches in the past couple days; through the dialogue box I can see my computer is connecting to other no problem but invariably at some point during the launching of the game everyone is dropped and I end up playing a game against bots. Of the dozen or so matches I've tried only two actually had another human in it, one match all 7 people, the other that was a 4 vs 4 only one other human made it through to the actual game. Further, about half the time I get a random demigod instead of the one selected.
If the main focus of the game doesn't currently work, and the single player mode isn't deep enough to tie you over then...hmm...what word to use to discribe it....
Even the guy on our forums (Penny Arcade) who was having crappy connection issues the first few days was easily able to join games yesterday.
