Why isn't it there do you only pick the reviews that you like and not those that speaks the truth!!
probably yes.
Hmm, I'm sure you have photographs, both good and bad. Do you keep the goodones to yourself and show your friends the bad ones?
Just let me make sure that I got this right...
You are asking a company if they only put positive reviews of the product that they want to make money with on their frontpage? Wow, who would have thunk...
I am sure that you can name many other companies who plaster their homepage with "6.5 - Our game is mediocre, now buy it"...
i think gamespot reviewrs is to harsh and should die in a fire.
but seriously... 6.5 is really low for this game.
this game "demigod" deserves a higher grade atleast a 8.5 or higher!
they judge by no single player mode, and bad multiplayer online connectivity.
others 2 reviewers gave it a 4.3/5 and a 10/10 this gamespot kid is bullshit.
btw
when was the last time that a mutliplayer game came out and never had a problem? i mean.. i played age of conan, warhammer online, left 4 dead, team fortress 2 , and more on the first release week and they all had connectivity problems or some other errors.
but i bet gamespot still judge them HIGH because they are from a popular company or what so ever. i think this guy needs to review the game once again and actually play the game more.
but still gamespot is to harsh. lets see what ign.com rates it soon
Most of those games are MMORPGs, an entirely different beast. L4d & TF2 did have a few problems (stemming from steam), the match making for l4d absolutely sucks.
If I was reviewing this game, I'd give it a 6.5 too maybe, even tho I enjoy it quite a bit. The game has some serious performance since the last patch over multiplayer, even lately over hamachi there has been some serious stuttering. Now I have a system that exceeds their requirements (both min, and max), I don't play the game on max settings, to give me more of a performance (shadows off, lower resolution, etc) the game still feels very sluggish. The game has some serious issues with routers, I never had issues like this with ANY game I've ever played.
Multiplayer is pretty much the entire game, when 80% of the game isn't working, you can bet you're going to get a shit review
Halo3 also had connectivity issues going for a month, because servers were over loaded. I had to wait 2 hours to try and maybe get lucky to connect. Yet the reviews were "Multiplayer is great, there is no connection problem what so ever, you can easily connect to a game" "not those that speaks the truth!!"
You obviously just looked at the scores of the ones on the mainsite and said "that is not possible" and asume that they are lying. Most of them stated what was bad in their review just as Gamespot did.Scene Gamers
"The Bad
Games that get Game of the Year nomination, 9 and 10's never put up terrible reviews. Why? because who have never heard of it will base their decision to buy the game often base it of the lowest review. This is the internet, just as you can go around stating your opinions as fact they can do what ever they please to.
From what I can see the gamespot review is on the front page. As for those other games, they were on steam which had already been out for a long time and still had problems. For anyone who was around when steam first came out that would of been an equal comparison. A ton of people were pissed when steam first came out (sound familiar). The switch from WAN to steam made me quit CS for a little while just out of pure frustration of not being able to play. I remember buying HL2 and not being able to play the game because of problems and look at the score that got on game spot. I would say not being able to play a game at all is far worse then only not being able to play multiplayer. I have no idea why people are being so harsh on demigod it's not like stuff like this hasn't happened before and will happen again. It seems reviews these days have no standards anymore and two games that have equal problems get judged differently because of the developer and hype.Edit: I'll take out my personal opinion on game spot people can go to whatever site they want.
^Hes retarded , he can't see it.
I wouldn't put it either if I own the company. Anyways, I think IGN's review will be very positive. The reason I think so is that IGN has been putting Demigod in their top 10 list (top 10 2008) and top 10 spring games.
I also think Gamespot's review is harsh based on multiplayer issues. If multiplayer was perferct, would gamespot give the game an 8? The game deserves a re-review but I don't think gamespot ever readjust their scores.
gamespot does change review scores retroactively. its happened before, though its uncommon.
i agree that the gamespot review was pretty unfair. the reviewer did two things that were unjustified.
first of all he reviewed the game as if it was designed to have a robust single player experience. it just isn't. its a competitive team game. you wouldn't fault Unreal Tournament for having bad single player. this game is no different.
second, he deducted points for opening day glitches with the netcode. if the reviewers opinion was that the game is not quite a finished product yet he should have just not reviewed it yet. put up a mean, snarky blog post complaining about how companies release "retail launch" products that aren't quite finished, but the last thing you should do is put a number score on a product that isn't quite finished.
When any reviewer plays a game, say Half-Life 2 for example, they complete the game and then submit their review based on their experience. Most reviewers will have at least one instance where they had to sit up all night finishing a game to meet a deadline. Why do they do this? So that they can accurately provide information based on the whole experience. Several games have fantastic openings and then really, really terrible middle and end sections and vice versa.
When reviewing a multi-player centric Game, a review can not be considered accurate until adequete time has been put into the game. For example, when I originally bought Counter-Strike Source, there was a problem with Steam for a few days and it prevented me from connecting to servers via the Steam network. If I had of been a reviewer, I could have given the game a Zero because it simply didn't work. I could have played against bots, but the play is designed for multiplayer so it's not really a fair representation of the game. When reviewers review MMOs they play for several weeks so that they can report on things like Quests, Balance, how fun the PVP and PVE aspects are. And they also take into consideration how the community works. Are the Community Managers helpful or are they simply mindless bots? How good is the customer service?
While Demigod isn't an MMO and as such can't be judged by those standards, games like Halo 3 won praise for their online community - the stat tracking, the forums, the file sharing - read any review and it's highlighted as a 'Pro'. Should the response of people like Frogboy go unmentioned? There are people working sleeplessly to get this game working - they are keeping their player base informed of the problems and ensuring that the problems are fixed in days, not weeks. This alone eclipses the likes of Blizzard Entertainment where unless the servers crash, theres no word for months about anything.
In my opinion Demigod is a multiplayer centric experience, and the Gamestop review can not be considered accurate because they simply tried to connect to a few games and couldn't, played against some bots and wrote "It's good, but multiplayer doesn't work. 6.5". The reviewer should have pushed for more time, until the game could actually be reviewed and an accurate representation given. The score given to Demigod isn't a mark against Demigod, it's a mark against Gamespot. And one they won't live down for a long time to come.
