Gamespot Review
My beta review was 6/10 i guess Gamespot feel the same way.
MMOs and this are like apples and oranges - MMOs aren't known for getting 'everything' on day 1, heck lets reffence WoW considering everyone does, most of it's 'core content' didn't hit the actal version until a few big patches in, even WAR is only adding most of it's better content next week... DG however what we are seeing, thats it and I do agree a 'day 1' review is VERY harsh right now as the 'core content' is inaccessable right now. MMOs are reviewed with the furchure in mind, games like this are reviewed 'as is'. It's funny really that this gets a 'day 1' review when RA3 and DOW2 had at least 1/2 weeks before the reviews started hitting.
Either way one man's trash is another man's tresure
This type of game needs a solo player campaign. I was dissapointed to see in the review that it was multiplayer only so I don't think I'll be buying this product. Multiplayer is so limited these days and is highly over estimated.
A solo campaign would have given 'future' new life to this product with the introduction of new mods/quests etc.
This review seems more credable than the other one featured on this site giving the game 10/10.
Cheers.
another review came out from
http://www.scenegamer.com/featured/pc-review-demigod/
7.5/10
he complains about 8 maps and no map editor. and multiplayer connectivity issues. and limited access for non-online players.
and why is he complaining about that? 8 maps? wtf is this fps game or rpg game?
i don't see people complaing that dota has only 1 map and people still love to play it.
all these reviewers blame on such stupid things.
and its just been the first few days and still people are crying about not playing online.
and also who the fuck does not have an internet connection now a day?
seriously... what games don't we love to play iwth other people? i think almost EVERY single game needs to have a multiplayer game but not a single player. single player is just a waste of time juts like any other game.
i rather play with friends or random to laugh and not be playing against some stupid AI or computer that rapes me every game.
people need to stop judging from their point of views and maybe see what the "FUTURE" of technology has in for them such as ONLINE PLAY.. and not single player.
left 4 dead didn't have a STORY mode. it still got a 9/10 TF2 didn't have a STORY mode. it still got a 9
there are also other games that dont have even a story mode and still get BETTER ratings .
i think all these reviewers care about the "NAME" if its not from VALVE or BLIZZARD it gets lower than a 8 automatically. LAFF
you are a joke. what can you possibily be doing in a single player mode? what do you want to achieve?
is it because losing to other people hurts your feelings or what? i mean.. please tell me. so you can't blame the computer or feel happy that you can rape a computer over and over again?
these games are usually for online play. I rather play company of heroes online than playing against stupid AI
I rather play DOTA against REAL players except myself with HARDCORE AI's.
I rather play world in conflict or command and conqueor online than single player mode with stupid ai once agian.
i can go on and on and on.
Sadly, quite spot on review. They judge the game compared to what has already been released and Demigod is very lacking in some parts.
I had high hopes in the game, but I'm disapointed by the connectivity issues and it's NOT worth 40$ digital purchase, sorry. It's 25$ MAX for the features we have available.
Battleforge has so far been vastly superior, especially now that its economy is running fine and you don't need to use real money to get cards anymore.
I might come back to Demigod when issues are resolved in a few weeks, but until then, it's not worth my time.
Good luck to the fans.
Ah yes, attacking other people that don't agree with you. Very mature. But since you are so sure that SP games are just a waste of time, can you explain to me why only 10% of the people that bought UT every played online, according to Epic? Why the vast majority of people still play only play the campaign in RTS games, and never online?
It is great how you tell him that people need to stop judging from their point of view, then go on to insult him because he doesn't agree with you, when all of this time you are actually in the minority...
The way I see it is you either like the game or you don't despite what any reviewer says, no need to get defensive if you really like it and someone else doesn't that’s just life this is a simple rule it applies to all media. I see a lot of comparisons to TF2 and other games That A.) are a completely different genre and B.) Work online (most of the time).
I personally love the game, the feel of it, the graphics, the classes, its great. I don't like having to wait longer for an online game than I do playing it, and at the risk of been shot down I do wish there had been a single player campaign included, The classes just lend themselves to a great back story in the same way thrall etc did in Warcraft 3, but that’s not a great downside to me just would have been a bonus.
Point is if you like the game who cares what Gamespot/IGN etc say, I always read player reviews rather than the critics anyway.
Why bother reading reviews if you like the game.
A review is a one man opinion.. same as all of us.
I give it 8/10.. great fuckin game!
The game can be the best ever, but I've not been able to play a single game online, even after the latest patch. So it doesn't really matter how good it is, because I can't play it.
Worked right away for me.. maybe you should check your router :/
I must admit I was very disappointed not to get some sort of campaign and agree with the review that its a little light on content.
I think we will get more content but sadly via mini expansions like Sins and not via patches.
before i read the rest of this thread let me say, these review sites, review the games when or just b4 release, so that consumers know more or less what they are getting. you don't want to go buy a game, that might get fixed in the future, if it is truely this broken, then it shouldn't of been released yet.
Dathmar, I don't know why you think you won't get content via patches...that is Stardock's way of doing business. They've already said there are 2 more DemiGods coming out (for free) and they have already committed to a years worth of patching (worst case scenario). Now we already have 2 patches within a few days (of the actual release date). I just don't see how you can think you won't get more content...
Have some faith in GPG & Stardock. As odd as it is these days, these guys actually really care about those people that buy the game, they want to give you the best experience possible. It will get better.
Well lets see... in these days of micro transactions I don't rely on anything until its on my hard drive.
I would love them to turn things around as I can see a few more 5/10 and 6/10 reviews on the way.
Lack of maps doesnt mean anything
DOW 2 only had what? 6 maps at launch? And it got rave reviews....as for no singleplayer campaign, i have yet to play any stardock game with a single campaign, Sins certainly didnt have one. I still like this game, im just wanting for the bugs to get smoothed out and then i'll like it even more.
First off, I'm a big hater of Gamespot. Always have, always will do, even before anything with which -gate may be appended. That said, the review is, while not reflective of my own opinion, fair. While the online issues are unfortunate, and I (for the moment) have faith that they'll be fixed, Gamespot reviewed the 'final' version of the game. The one that goes out into shops, regardless of whether day-0 or day-negative-number updates are released. If they received updates as a matter of course, then that's generousity (and part necessity). The low map count is, while by no means abysmal or dire, quite annoying, given the lack of a dimension in gameplay, and the lack of variation in the gameplay (map-to-map) also. Those that compare it to MMO-reviews are on crack rock. Comparing it to, say, TF2, misses the small fact that TF2 multiplayer worked on release, and also for the mass majority of people came in perhaps the best gaming package in the last decade or more. UT2004, while not having a spectacular single-player, still managed to have one which lasted longer than this game's, and amount of content cannot be criticised. And, once again, the online component worked. And so on for other titles.
By contrast, Demigod's single-player is not fine. It's barely tolerable. More than anything, the lack of a tutorial is diabolical, and without a paced campaign mode to introduce players to elements that way (as is largely traditional for the genre), players are up shit creek without a paddle. The game has potential, but that isn't what reviewers review. Perhaps in the future a re-review will be warranted, perhaps not. But to cry 'injustice' because a game is reviewed before it's technical release date (and it isn't as if this is somehow unconventional) reeks of being overly defensive about a review from a sub-par questionably-moraled games 'journalism' website.
Im a Stardock fanboy ill admit that, i like the way they respect there customers. That said i can understand why Demigod gets a low score in its current state. Its a multiplayer game, atm its next to imposible to get a multiplayer game going.
I dont make a big fush about it since im sure Stardock and GPG are working hard to fix the multiplayer connection problems and they actualy keep us in the loop.
Empire: Total War is atm a complete mess with CTD and all sorts of crap. CA have said they are aware of it and will fix it. So ill play something else for a month untill they release a patch. I will do the same with Demigod when i get tired of the single player.
Fact is both games are great games if they worked. And im sure that in not to long they will.
Do some of you people know the phrase "to me". Most empathetic or mature people use it. For example, ranked games are not important "TO ME". I did NOT say they are "not important", just not "to me". It you don't like SP, or campains, (or tutorials or game replay movies or lots of maps) then fire for you, but a HUGE demographic of players do like those things. There is such an arrogant, rude attitute with some of the MP only people sometimes; like only THEIR part of the game is important, and anything else is crap to be ignored, and those who like anything but the MP are to be flamed and taunted for even darring to mention it. Well lots of the things that were left out of DG were important "to me", and to lots of other people too, and their game preferences are no less important than the MP crowd. . .
I have 3 friends sitting on the fence about getting DG or DoW2 now; I want them to get DG. I'm asking them to wait for a patch or two, but it's not looking good so far; one really like campains, the other ranked MP, all thrive on replay movies, One game has all they want, and is working, the other does not. It's not looking good for me so far, but I'll try to get them to hold out till this weekend cause I know how SD tries so hard with their games/customers.
I fully agree. Yes, multiplayer connectivity right now is pretty bad. On the other hand, it's going to be fixed and moreover, the reviewer constantly went on about single player. As if anyone ever really plays the campaign.
Well, you are right. Most people probably won't play the campaign here because there is none
And again, if you look at stats that devs sometimes provide, most people still buy a rts for the campaign and skirmish, and never venture online.
I just wanted to share a slightly more postive review with you by SceneGamer
Kevin @ GameSpot is notorious for giving out low scores, so i wouldn't worry too much about it..
Very true. I already own Warcraft 3 and its expansion and the community-made custom maps that are really close to this game (and there are loads of them!) or the ones that inspired Demigod are far better balanced, more fun, require more tactic, aren't bland or boring, have a lot more features (more heroes etc.). I don't see the point of spending money on Demigod if you can buy War3+TFT for f-all, play the RTS part of it and download free custom maps that are far better than Demigod.
I feel sorry for people who bought this just because of the graphics or the 'zomg the Rook, it's a walking castle omg omg that's so cool this game sure is brilliant omg' hype. But if you don't own War3, buy Demigod because then you won't be able to compare it to anything else and can live happily in your little cocoon.
The game could've been awesome with a lot more features, testing and balancing. 6/10 is fair and honest looking at DG's current state.
I was going to buy this game as soon as it was released, but I think I will wait for it to get fixed before I buy it. I learned my lesson with Empire Total War.
They need to release it on steam, too
It's the best way to gain attention, additionally they could offer free-weekends, it really proofed to be worth it.
I opened an MP game this morning and I had zero issues. It was a smooth experience.
Even I didn't play much, I suppose the game has a unique amount of potential.
Stardock's Impulse is the main competitor to Steam. Wouldn't it be a bit odd to release it on the competitor's product?
