I preordered the downloadable version of demigod under the impression, including that of some forum members, that the downloadable preorder is also a collectors edition, minus all of the physical stuff. I'm REALLY into music from games, and would be quite frustrated if I could not download the music somehow. The soundtrack, for me, was the incentive to preorder instead of waiting for a demo or for reviews, etc. This is the first time in about 5 years that I've made a preorder, and I do enjoy the game. However, I'd really appreciate it if someone from Stardock or GPG could let me know what's going on, because I've been checking up on Impulse 5 times a day so far to see if the soundtrack is up, only to be disappointed.
Thank you,
A concerned lifeform, morality sold separately.
I think I've pre-ordered every official Stardock release in recent memory...and I'm still caught off-guard every time we get to release and there's a "Collector's Edition" available. I'll learn one of these days. So yeah...do those of us who pre-ordered as early as we could get the extra stuff?
I think the sound track etc. was an incentive for buying the retail pre-order Collector's edition version and I don't think it was ever advertised otherwise, however if and when my retail copy turns up over here (may take a week or two I guess, not sure.) I might help you out finding a copy.
I'm also interested in knowing which versions of the game come with the soundtrack. I'd prefer only having to buy a digital download instead of having to chase down a Collector's edition in the stores.
You don't have to. Impulse offer a digital download plus retail option, where you get both for $10 more plus postage/shipping costs. They'll send you the Collector's Edition in the post, but in turn receive the download version immediately.

Whilst stocks last, of course.
Ideally, I'd like to get the soundtrack without having to throw out all the extra packaging. Being in Canada retailers aren't always prompt with new releases and ship from the States can be a wee bit more expensive.
Could someone from GPG or Stardock give an answer?
Does the downloadable preorder I purchased include a downloadable soundtrack as well? I did not buy the retail version because I'm happy with pure digital, and am not into all the posters, pewters, etc. It's just not my thing. I REALLY want the soundtrack, and was under the impression that the digital download only through preordering was also a "collectors edition" except for anything physical. If I can't get the soundtrack, then I'll be sad. My X-Fi can record "what I hear" but it's difficult to time, and takes up a lot of time as well, and won't necessarily be as high of audio quality. I only use that method when there is no way to get the soundtrack legitimately, and I don't see it as illegal, since it wasn't being sold in the first place, and I'm keeping it for my use only. I sincerely hope that is understandable. I want you to succeed as much as you do, so please at least offer a way to obtain the soundtrack separately or something.
Oh, and Stardock, great work with Entrenchment! I bought it opening day! Sins I think I bought opening week, but that was before I familiarized myself with Impulse, which is really very nice! I look forward to doing more business with you.
Yup, i want that beautiful music too
Well, we all have the soundtrack already.
Just use fsbext to extract Demigod_Streaming.fsb (make sure to extract with the headers) then use MusicPlayerEX to convert them. Voila, you have your own, probably even more complete soundtrack.
Woah ! Thanks a lot man !
I've been searching for hours. Could you post links to the files? I found a fsbext thing, and managed to extract, but it was a dos program and I don't know how to "make sure to extract headers." A step by step guide for dummies would also be great. So if you could post links to both of the files you mentioned, that would be great!
Check out some torrent sites, you may find it, you know it IS perfectly legal for you to download it because you have purchased it right?
I couldn't get the programs to work correctly. I'd prefer a simple method, such as the music being available to those who register their games or something like that, idk. I just want that music through some legal means that doesn't require so many work arounds.
Anyone have an answer?
I would also like to know this.
QFT. This is, I believe, fair use? The only problem is that with a torrent you're also helping distribute by sending parts of the files to possibly illegal recipients. But, it's legit to extract it or nab it somehow, you did pay for it after all. (Unless the soundtrack is somehow different from what is released in the game, of course, bonus tracks or whatever nonwithstanding.)
The digital-download version is supposed to be the CE (with the downloadable soundtrack and all), but they've probably been too busy with networking stuff to actually release the CE goodies. We still haven't gotten the Demigod desktop theme, either.
I found the fsbext program and used the following command to extract the Demigod music:
fsbext -a R:\Games\Demigod\Sounds\Demigod_Streaming.fsb
While lots of WAV files were extracted, none of them were playable.
The suggested MusicPlayerEX error'd with an invalid format message, as does Windows Media Player and VLC. (And if VLC can't play it, I think it's a bad file - VLC seems to play everything!)
I tried opening the WAV files with GoldWave, my sound editor of choice. GoldWave was unable to recognize the audio format, but provided a list of options to try. None of them worked.
I can play the music (and other sounds) from "Demigod_Streaming.fsb" with FMOD Event Player, but I have no control over which songs are played nor is there a way to extract the sound files. I know I'm working with the right file, but FMOD Event Player isn't designed for that level of control.
I'm not sure where the error lies. Is Demigod using a non-standard WAV format? (Unlikely) Is there an error with fsbext? (perhaps) Am I using the wrong options for fsbext? (perhaps, but I've tried lots of combinations)

Do they plan on ever providing us with the soundtrack we paid for?
The only version of the game that would include the soundtrack would be the Collector's Edition retail box. I believe GPG is selling the soundtrack online via iTunes or something for digital only.
