I started a metaverse game tonight about 7:15 CST, and finished and posted it about an hour later. Then I've been trying to start another one since about 9pm. I keep getting some error that the metaverse is returning some unknown reply (I forget the exact wording).
Any one else seeing this?
Believe me I share the same frustration that I'm sure everyone else does. I also am sure that this *will* get fixed although I'm anxious for this to be corrected as soon as possible just as everyone else is.
With that said I do want to say that showing your frustration is not the most helpful thing to do. Certainly GalCiv2 does not have the priority that newer games do, however SD has managed to keep the GalCiv 1 Metaverse running and I am sure that they have no intent of abandoning the GalCiv2 Metaverse. The only real threat to the Metaverse is if people becoming overly demanding and critical and that causes SD to conclude that the Metverse is more trouble than it's worth. Frankly I *really* don't want SD to come to that conclusion. It's good that people show their support for the Metaverse to be fixed, in fact the more the merrier, but at the same time it's important to not show the frustration that goes along with it. Please.
True, critics does never improve anything, it looks like the server is strinking. Obviously new projects have priority (I would do the same with new games before releases) but there is no doubt the MV-server is going to be fixed soon. It is most likely a technical issue and not due to priorities or even.
PS: the Metaverse became a vital part of the game and something says me we will be celebrating 10 years MV.. . I certainly like new games but between us, GalCiv2 is kind of special and I'll be one of the first ones buying a new expansion or/and the next GalCiv3...
Cheers
Sometimes SDs cage needs to be rattled, but I see your point. For your sake, as well as that of the other MV players, I will say no more on the subject. Instead, I will go restart my current game, and go after the elusive 1 Million Pointer, which you have so graciously made possible for folks such as myself.
This is happening to me to,theexact error message is: "A connection to the internet cannot be established. Please verify that your computer is connected to the internet and then try logging in again." I get this every time and if I can post here my internet is obviously not down.
Not at all. I made no judgements. Simply stating what i would see as the pecking order in Stardockia, and it seems perfectly logical to me.

GC2
Thats how i see it and i understand it too. GC2 is no longer the cash cow it was, i get that.
kryo,
i think people here understand your the messenger that nobody wants to shoot. everyone at SD must be working around the clock, doing their best to stomp out the raging fires. i've experienced similiar situations and know its not fun.
most of us understand where the MV fits in the food chain, without complaint. and know it's not SD's intention to have the MV down, dead, for any period of time.
but i feel this deserves some management attention. if it's bad news, let us know. most of us are adults and can deal with it. if not, please insist on a fix.
burning feet Jack
I wanted to see my medals my first post, I want to play havent played in awhile, I dont even know why I care I dont even know what empire I am in but I know the metaverse makes it fun.....
oh my no medals showed now i feel dumb lol
Funny how things happen sometimes, I just got back into this game after buying the Ultimate Edition, and was looking to start MV gaming again. While I am sure it will get up again soon, it does seem like it's taking a long time to resolve.
While we are all waiting for the MV to come back up, go here and tell us what you are doing to pass the time: What are you doing while the Metaverse is down?
Sentient species taste better...
Pat got a chance to look at the Meta today but it was "uncooperative" and as such it looks like it's not going to be a simple matter of just starting it back up this time. I'll keep you guys posted when there's further news.
Thanks Kryo. In the meantime, we can do some RL stuff. I was recently thinking about taking a shower or something.
Or maybe moving some of these snack boxes away from my computer.
thanks for the update kryo
Hrm, I can't seem to make out what those boxes were of...souls of kittens?
*snicker*
Yes, for the most part. I like to have a variety of souls shipped in from a local restaurant.
The kitties are crunchy and tasty. Humans are more squishy and bland. Kinda like wet rice cakes.
WOOHOO!! found a save file from a game I abandoned last month I was able to turn it around, and so now I have a game to play (and milk) while we wait for the MV to return
Bob
noone interested in playing a mod and play Mod Metaverse on I-Mod Productions while waiting until the Metaverse is fixed?
it's cheatproofed and makes same fun. If you play the Ultimate FX Mod you will have same gameplay but overall better graphics!
I would like to hear your oppinion, we made this mod metaverse because many of you complained about the metaverse incompatibility of mods.
kind regards
Some progress seems to have been made. You can now view the Metaverse although you still can't log in to it. The metaverse does have an orphan logon scheme that's different than SD's unified websites so you still can't get a new game. I assume that means you can't submit old games either. I do hope that games people started prior to the MV going down will eventually be able to be submitted.
Clan Lindsay reported getting an email from SD support saying that the Metaverse is back up.
As I mentioned above you can view Metaverse rankings but you *cannot* login to the metaverse server. If you attempt to start a new game it asks you to login and it will sit for a minute displaying "Connecting to Metaverse" but then kicks you back to the login screen with the message "The Metaverse server returned an unrecognized response. Please try connecting again later."
If you try and login directly to the Metaverse from http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx you get the following error.

Pat was working on it some more yesterday, but it's continued to be obstinate. He's going to keep at it though.
Metaverse is downAshes drift in leaden skyWinter in my heart
While we wait, the Twilight Pub is sponsoring a Haiku competition to express our feelings on the loss of the MV, hopefully thereby dealing with our darker emotions in a positive way. Post your best and most anguished haiku's here. +1 karma for those submitting a haiku.....+3 for the winner. Sound right to you guys?
@Kryo - thanks for the update. It means a lot to receive regular updates on this issue and reassures me that we haven't been abandoned and that SD still cares. I hope the issue is resolved today, but, Lords of the MV forbid, if it isn't, would you mind giving us a daily update? For your troubles:

Still down.
Gave me time to play Demigod...
...which also sucks. I'm done with impulse-based / network-based Stardock games.
Here we are after a full week, and still no meta. Awesome support stardock.
What you need to remember is that GC2 is no longer the priority it once was. This is the nature of such an industry, your only as good as your last game.
Demigod is the focus right now and Elemental, and that, though annoying, makes perfect sense.
SD are not going to put time and effort into a game that is passed it's money making peak. The MV being down is not going to cost SD any number of customers of consequence, if any at all.
Demigod servers not working right though, will and I'm sure is costing SD/GPG customers, and since the bottom line is the almighty dollar it makes perfect sense to abandon GC2 for the new kid on the block.
I'm sure at some point they will get back to fixing GC2, it's just not the most important thing for them to do business wise.
I get that Neilo, but a week is a long time to let a server be down.
Stardock seems to be a 9 women for a month makes a baby sort of company. Right now they probably do have everyone fighting the current fire. It also seems they bite off more than they can chew. If only they'd learn to pace things and do them right.
For all the bragging Brad does for how much money he made off GCII, I would think he could afford someone to fix the freaking metaverse. (let alone have a QA and Test department...)
