Anyone else heard about this game?
Apparently it's been in development for a very long time, and still has quite a ways to go, but as an RTS fan, this has to be one of the coolest concepts for a game I've seen in a long time.
Basically, it's your standard fare RTS game, harvest resources, build bases, build armies and steamroll your enemies, etc...
Except with Achron, you have the ability to issue commands in the past, and in the future, as well as time travel many of your units to whenever you'd like. Definetely worth checking out their page anyways, they've got a few demonstrational videos up.
... Wow.
I mean, the graphics may look horribly crap at the moment, but... Seriously. Wow.
I think we might see a Stardock label on this game when it is released....
To be fair, the game isn't even in Beta. The graphics are merely placeholders for playtesting the games engine, which is the majority of what they've worked on to date, and on that note, the important bit, the incorporation of time travel into the gameplay is fully functional.
We can only hope, they do mention in their FAQ that they're currently seeking a publisher
I thought of time travel in RTS years ago. But I envisioned only being able to go into the past, not the future. That is easily doable via a "save game" type of mechanism. Would have been useful if you were getting your butt kicked, realized your mistake, and wanted to do it all over again. So you jump into the past, making your opponent have to replay from some "saved game" snapshot in time, only this time you switch around your tactic or strat, heh.
Anyway, the game you posted looks quite cool.
Hey, you didn't code it.
And yeah, holy time travel, Batman.
Guh? How the heck will they avoid paradoxes?
They cover that in their FAQ At least one of the demonstrational videos is also about it.
If this ever actually gets made it could be one of those landmark games. Definately keeping track of its progress. Now if only there was a publisher around to help them move forward....
Has anyone else noted that the gaming biz has come up with far more interesting sci-fi ideas and visions than anything Hollywood has produced in decades?!?
<sigh> I hope Stardock gets into the movie business. Anybody for Sins of a Solar Empire: The Movie? Look out Lucas!
One would hope Stardock would sit down and hear them out...surely a worthwhile conversation could be had.
I hope this game makes it, I havn't been this excited about an RTS since I saw the trailure for Supreme Commander and saw how big the maps were. If Stardock could publish this game, wow, talk about next big hit.
AFAIK, Stardock will happily publish any game. It's just that you need to provide you own funding to actually make it. Stardock just does the publishing stuff. (their own games excepted, of course) They will help out with advice etc. (as with Sins of a Solar Empire) but you have to bankroll the production yourself.
So it kind of depends what Achron's developers need from a publisher: someone to put the final result on the market, or someone to provide money to pay saleries etc. until release. In the former case any contract negotiations with Stardock should go smoothly. In the latter case, it ain't happening, period.
I dont care how the graphics look (but that may just be me since i still love rebellion, different topic, must focus) i think this is going to be an awesome game. hell, i would buy it right now for $30 or $40. *waits impatiently at desk for release*
Yeah, I kind of expected that to be the case. A game with this sort of revolutionary functionality mightn't actually NEED the spiffiest, shiniest, most-high-end graphics engine to stand on it's own, but by George, that is truly something that it deserves! I feel that anything less would be selling the concept short.
