Hey guys, figured I would enlist your help.
Ages ago, when I was younger, I stumbled upon a game that I can no longer remember the name of. It involved 2D space combat that was turned-based, ie you would tell your ships what to do and they would do it for a few seconds before you gave them more orders. The tutorial let you start and learn how to do it with a few ships, then you scaled up to larger fleets in big combat. It kind of reminded me of something out of Ender's Game, but I have no clue what this game was or what it's name was!
I have been searching for awhile, aimlessly, for it, with no luck. Has anyone heard of a game like this? Thanks guys!

I'll take a guess:

HEY!!! I was just thinking about this! I think. Was it where you had a ship, then you would have a certain amount of energy and you would say "shields are 200" then you would order your ship to turn x degrees and then you could put x amount of energy into a shot. If the other guys shields where not set high enough then boom.
Anyway it was just a simple text program and I have no idea what the name is, but I'm looking.
Charvel, that's it! Wow, can't believe you found it that quickly! Man, gotta download and get in on this...
Thanks for the try mbaron, and plus karma to both of you! Any other games like this one out there?
I'm glad you found your game!

The Starfleet Command series, specifically, the second of the series, are some of the best (IMO, the best) 2-axis space combat games. If you see them in a bargain bin, they're worth a try at the least.
I remember there was a semi-recent game that was more or less HOMM in space, but it get pretty poor reviews. Let me see if I can dig it up..
Edit: here it is: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/spaceforcecaptains/index.html
Without looking at any data not on this page, the game in question sounds a lot like a miniatures game I play sometimes called 'Full Thrust.' - No comments from the peanut gallery, please.
An upcoming game ya'll might be interested in:Gratuitous Space BattlesThe idea is that you outfit and deploy a fleet of ships and watch them blow stuff up.
Thanks guys! A lot of these games look interesting. I just spent a few hours trying out battleships forever, and that is a pretty sweet game! Not easy, though!
Starflight?
I don't know about getting the originals, but there is a fan made game at: http://www.starflightgame.com/
You have to use their forums to find the download; I can't remember the link. It's an okay game, but mostly it went unfinished (plenty of gameplay still) as the dev team had other things to do. Even still, it's open source now and hopefully someone will finish it.
Starflight - that brings back memories:
Sitting in my basement jamming to ACDC's Back in Black album while tediously trying to find that next deposit of Molybdenum to mine.
This game actually looks kinda interesting!
