Hello.
Today I decided to try Fences. I likes the software and I'll be using it as it's very comfortable and useful. In the process of downloading I encountered DeskScapes. I knew of this program when I first installed my Stardock ObjectDock Plus, about half a year ago. But it was only now when I found out that it's XP compatible. As a person who loves gadgets I was thrilled to see that my XP could have a moving desktop. I also loved the Earth scape, and was very happy with it.
Though that than, I noticed the Stardock mini-explorer thingy, asking me to update my Fences, DeskScapes and ObjectDock Plus. I updated my ObjectDock Plus among everything else, knowing that doing so could resolve the very annoying "ObjectDock: dll./hook Failed To Load. No PROC(shell). Please reinstall and reboot" problem I have whenever trying to boot ObjectDock.
I reboot my PC after uninstalling my StarDock (I made a backup of the settings on my desktop prior to the uninstallation just to be sure), just to find that the DeskScapes is messed up and the Fences are so too. My OD was fine though.
Deciding to uninstall these, I remembered I has to update my OD before I can continue. I updated it and it asked me to reboot. When I rebooted, I found that my DeskScapes are gone along with my Fences - and my backup file of the theme &settings as well. Also, my ObjectDock Plus returned to the normal free version and my theme was gone, replaced by the older grey Default Theme.
After a short System Restore to the 28th, I found that my Plus version returned - but without the theme. Actually, I could load nearly no theme at all. It would just show blank. Also, the "+" and "-" marks on my drawer-dock (tabs) are replaces by qeustion marks.
My only need is my Vector Cell Black theme and the + and - signs back (with a guide on how to restore them, since no option apears on the right-clocked question marks), other than that I can manage by myself.
Thank you.
Hello? Anybody?
HELLO?!?!?!?!?
From what I understand system restore will only restore things from a certain point. Meaning...if the things that are missing weren't within that certain restore point they are now lost.
You could try restoring back to the day you restored from and then save those things your missing and then do what you needed to do before. Not sure if that would work but it's worth a shot.
Did it, didn't work. Finally, after nearly a month, an answer. Thanks.
This may not be any help now but something for future reference.I used the free version of OD for well over a year and had my themes saved.(Documents>Stardock>ObjectDock Library>BackedUp Themes) I saved these to a usb drive. When I upgraded to Plus I had to uninstall OD free, then I reloaded my themes and all was back the way I had it.
I did as soon as I got the settings I like, about 2 days after I installed Stardock Plus for the first time.. It won't help, my entire Stardock (in My Documents, not the Stardock Library) file is empty except my theme, which won't do any good if there is nothing to display.
Could anyone please send me the file? It shouldn't be too big, right?
Also, how do I solve the missing Dll:/Hook problem that pops every time I start Stardock?
Do you mean ObjectDock, not Stardock? I have Vista so I may not be much help if the install directories are different but I'll try.
OD+ should have folders in two locations. One in C/ProgramFiles/Stardock called ObjectDock. This is where the default backgrounds are placed (the ones that come with ObjectDock) including Vector Cell. All of the program data and dll's are also there along with the two default themes 1.6 Default and 1.9 Plus Default. If they aren't there you may need to reinstall OD+.
The other one is in username/Documents/Stardock/ObjectDock Library. This is where your downloaded backgrounds, icons and backed up themes are usually stored. Do you show any backed up themes, icons, backgrounds, bundled images, etc. in this location? If so, save a copy of this entire folder somewhere just in case you need them after the reinstall. If not or most are missing, again you may need to reinstall ObjectDock+ again. and redownload the ones you wanted.
Now,post back and tell me what you have in those folders and lets see what we can work out. You can also PM me if you want.
Yes I ment ObjectDock.
The directory is the same. I did some reserch and found where the problem lies - most of Backgrounds folders are missing. If you could send me the Vector Cell one, it'll be really nice of you.
Also, the + and - signs are missing, IDK where they should be... If you could also find them and send them to me.
More important, how can I solve the missing Hook file? It has occured since I first installed the program. I cannot reinstall, I don't remember the password for the Sardock and for me E-Mail.
Did you uninstall the free version BEFORE installing the Plus version? That may have something to do with it.
It sounds from your original post like you have Impulse installed (the thing that told you about the updates) so you CAN reinstall software that you purchased through it. That would be my suggestion......reinstall all the programs thru Impulse.
It does sound like you need to reinstall ObjectDock. That is the best way to get everything back and possibly fix the hook issue. If Impulse is unable to reinstall it ,contact the fine folks at Stardock sales and give them the e-mail address you used when you purchased OD+. They should be able to get you fixed up.
Simply replacing the missing folders/files may not be the right thing to do,since you may just end up with the same thing happening all over again. It also won't fix the error you are getting. You may want to use the zapper to completely remove OD.before reinstalling it. Run the zapper, then reboot.Reinstall OD then reboot again.Good Luck.

Will I need to re-feed my password for the Plus? I can't make any OOC calls this month, a part of a stupid deal with the phone company.
I think if you have purchased OD+ and registered it then it should show up in your "Desktop" tab In Impulse. Is it showing in Impulse and properly registered? Click on the blue ? at the top right and select "Register a product" to check and get your serial number.
If it is uninstalled,it will show up as available. You should be able to reinstall it again with Impulse. Impulse should log you in automatically. I recently reinstalled everything in ODNT Ultimate and OD+ and that's how it was for me.
If your on XP. First thing you should do is save any backgrounds you want to keep and then uninstall anything to do with ObjectDock...free and or paid versions. Run a reg cleaner to make sure nothing is left and look in Programs & My Documents to make sure everythings gone. Then reboot and reinstall OD+. After it's installed...check to see if there is an entry under "Programs/Stardock/ObjectDock." If there is...delete everything related to ObjectDock in your "My Documents" folder...don't worry...you don't need them there and it won't stop OD+ from working.
Any png's you would want to use you can put in a folder and send to "Programs/Stardock/ObjectDock" and any backgrounds/tiles should be sent to "Programs/Stardock/ObjectDock/backgrounds" in order for you to get the full use of the Plus/Minus images that were made for some dock backgrounds.
