the little box to add +1 only seems to be showing in IE, can I fix this, cause i will not use IE
It may not show, but it's still there. Hover over where it "should be" and you'll see.
It would be nice if it were fixed, but as it is still functional, it's unlikely it'll be a priority.
Also, as far as I'm aware this only applies to the original post in a thread-it should show up fine for all replies; it does for me (using FF3).
i dont see it anywhere, doesnt work in IE either, i get dialog there but doesnt do anything
I use firefox its right there next to the report button for me.
Hasn't been working for those of us on Demigod forums for 3 months now. They know about it, 'cause I don't stop bitching about it.
Interesting; works fine (or at least as stated in my above post) from GC2 and Sins.
Then again, I noticed the other day on JU that my quote button was broken, but only on that site.
Also works on ImpulseDriven. Don't knw what the cause is, but it is spread in some areas, but not others.
It will only show if you are signed in.
Even when it shows it is non-functional for me. Copy/paste won't work in FF, and I am not able to insert a web link.
Stardock has a very good IT department. Why hasn't this been fixed? It has been months now.
Works fine for me in FF3 (on the sites where it appears, that is--the issue on Demigod is probably due to some accident with the site redesign several weeks ago).
Context menu copy/paste in the postbox is not something that can be fixed. Firefox disallows javascript from accessing the clipboard for security reasons. You can still use Crtl-C and Ctrl-V though; directly user-invoked actions work fine.
It's too bad - I've had at least 15 karma I wanted to give since it broke :/
Same here.
Ironic. There are four people in this thread alone that I would have hooked up if I could.
I beg to differ. I understand how FF handles this. Frankly, I never thought this was enough of a problem to warrant this iron glove solution. It's just throwing the baby out with the bathwater, IMO. In any case, there is evidently something that can be done, and I can prove it.
A couple of weeks ago, late at night, The forums were acting strangely. Lots of the 'code pigeons' dialogues. This may indicate that there is work being done on the site(s), and I'll often check functionalities. C&P is at the top of my list of forum annoyances, so I went there first.
I chose a long quote, and one where all of the font paramaters were different: larger size, different font, different color. I chose to pull it from another website, rather than from my own files, and gave it a whirl. It worked like a charm. Here is the link to that very post. http://forums.demigodthegame.com/343005 Note that I did this with the mouse, not the keyboard. Note also that I still can't insert it as a hyperlink, as the buttons remain greyed-out.
Something was done that allowed me to C&P that quote, and that something could be done again.
@Kryo- Thanks for letting us know that the keyboard shortcuts still work. I always just assumed they were non-functional as well. +1 Karma for you...oh, yeah. Still doesn't work. Oh well, here's one of these. You might suggest to Stardock that they edit the error dialogue to reflect this. It might save a bit of grief for the next Joe.
Copy/Paste can work in FF. I have it working about 80% of the time. When you attempt to Copy and Paste and the dialouge comes up has no-one continued to Mozilla.org to read the fix?
I'll copy and paste:P the fix here and hope that it helps some of you.
For Firefox:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<one folder>. (See also editing configuration files for more info on locating your profile folder.)
user.js
Add these lines to user.js:
user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "allowclipboard");user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www.mozilla.org");user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.cutcopy", "allAccess");user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.paste", "allAccess");
*Change the url "http://www.mozilla.org" to where you want to enable this function.
Note: The preference is site as well as protocol specific. For example
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www.mozilla.org")
is not the same as
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "https://www.mozilla.org")
(the first is http and the second is https)
If you want to allow multiple urls to access the Paste operation, separate the urls with a space. For example:
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www.mozilla.org https://www.mozilla.org")I did this when FF first showed these issues and have been happy. Doesn't work all the time, so still be prepared to get real friendly with CTRL+C, CTRL+V but it does save alot of grief, especailly if you use Clippings.Hope it helps guys!
The real question is if you got the standard context menu in the postbox (which is FF itself and works fine) or the javascript one that pops when you click on text itself rather than empty space (which doesn't).
Changing client-side security settings isn't really a fix, considering we can't do anything about it on our end. And telling people to do it for themselves isn't going to fly with most people.
Ok, no it's not a "fix" as such. And nor did i tell them to do it.
Gee, Kryo...snappy today?
It's a reasonable workaround though, for those bothered enough to try it. Takes only a few minutes and returns some of the functionality back to FF that people are after.
If they don't want to do this, well by all means, i'm not suggesting they have to.
Just trying to offer a possible solution mate......
I suggest using Google Chrome or the Google free version Chromium. Unless you are addicted to some addons, it is Firefox on steroids - and it shows the Karma box.
True. The average user won't be comfortable editing config files. What is very surprising to me is the fact that no one has written an add-on to do this.
The Stardock coders are pretty darn good. I bet any one of them could knock something like this out in no time. Send it off to Mozilla, and problem solved.
Yep, I got the monkey on my back. But the addons are what make the experience. Any decent browser will get you where you want to go, but FF does it elegantly.
