Saw this on TSF today...........For all you Trekkies out there..........Don't turn this into a Hyperdesk 'bashing' thread, please. We went through that little immature debacle a few months ago. Just admire the creativity and even if you don't use Hyperdesk just admire the art work, cool icons and there's a free media player remote too.

Really Jeff....who's bashing? I think there has been some comments made on how things could be improved. For the most part I think the comments have been pretty positive. Your icons are some of the best I've ever seen. It's just that the skin itself doesn't seem to fit the icon quality...not that it's bad/horrible or anything like that...just not the same quality...almost like one person did the icons and another did the skin.
I'd say the same thing about any WindowBlind.
If all else fails he can always make shark clocks.
LOL
No bashing going on at all, People are stating their opinions which is their right, You need to grow a thicker skin Jeff and get used to the fact that people are always going to compare hyperdesk and windowblinds. Even though they both use different skinning engines. And anyway you don't seem to have any problems with people "bashing" windowblinds at deviantart.
You have a link to deviantART where someone is bashing WB on our stuff? I've mentioned many times to people that while i appreciate their support these are 2 different animals. So put up...
My skin is still thin from the other threads about us. As a matter of fact the author of this one has to mention no bashing. How do you explain that. Go drink some more koolaid.
Oh!...You didn't go there!
And he can do it at DA!
I don't know what the shark clock joke is all about and i really don't care. Say what you want, but dA is a hell of a lot friendlier than here for us. I've been around for 10 years and i'll be around a lot longer than most of you will be. So have your fun
And say what you want, but I get paid really well for what I love to do. This is more than just a passion for me, it's my career. And even after 10 years i still love what i do. I work for myself at home where i can see my 8 month old daughter whenever i want.
I'm not going to bash Hyperdesk because I don't have any experience with it. It doesn't seem like something one could compare with Windowblinds, but more like something to compare to MyColors. From their website, I only see about a half dozen themes, all of them fairly masculine. As for the Star Trek theme...it just seems to be Windows 7 with a few embellishments. I'm not a fan of that flat taskbar (in one of my other posts, I referred to the Windows 7 taskbar as "a piece of Scotch tape at the bottom of my monitor" -- in the case of Star Trek theme, and the Subspace Vista theme, it's a piece of black electrical tape). It's just not my cup of tea. I'm sure it's a fantastic theme, if you like that sort of thing. I, too, use my computer all day long, (working 10 hours a day), and I think animated start menus are a fantastic bit of glitz in my otherwise mundane work day. With the use of Object Dock, I don't use the start menu that much anyway, since the bulk of my most-used programs are just one mouse click away, as opposed to two mouse clicks, and since I get paid on production, the less mouse clicks I use, the more money I make, (a good deal of what I use to be productive is hotkeyed, too, since I'm not making any money when my hands leave the keyboard).
So, there's my worthless 2-cents on the topic. Obviously, I'm a Stardock junkie, and Windowblinds is my drug-of-choice. Why buy crack, when I can have all the pure, high-grade cocaine I want, and can produce myself with Windowblinds?....that comment about the shark clocks....I'm going to be chuckling about that all day!
About those shark clocks, Karen....I already owe The Wix $5 for that...$5, you know...a fin.
Ma'am, I have a federal warrant for your arrest for the manufacture of cocaine.. please put your hands on the wall.
...and...ahem... I'll go ahead and confiscate what you have here ..
As for the theme, Its a good looking theme, I wish everyone could just see art in a more general way instead of picking at little things.
I'm no trekky but I can appreciate the hard work involved.
Won't anyone just think of the children!
V- The graphics on the web are stunning. No question. Hard work...I believe you. But people I respect told me that the themes are much less impressive than the web graphics. That's all I said, and that certainly isn't bashing anything.
like i said, grow a thicker skin.
that has nothing to do with you or hyperdesk. Just a private joke shared by those who know
yea! use them as shields!
One has nothing to do with another. Hyperdesk could be compared to MyColors not Windowblinds. And if you had $20 dollars left over you could buy 1 MyColors theme for 20 USD or buy a Hyperdesk theme for 15 USD and save 5 dollars. If you want to get technical our patch is probably the best one out there which means once you install Hyperdesk you can you use the many of 1000s themes out there that are free. Windowblinds doesn't change your icons so if we're just talking about theming.... You were saying?
Tons of free themes: http://www.deviantart.com/#catpath=customization/skins/vistautil/visstyles&order=5
And anyone who tells you our patch isn't safe or touches system files is full of.... errr fertilizer. Our Vista in-memory patch which was coded by Andreas of AveDesk held up without breaking through having no Service Pack to Sp1 and then to SP2 beta.
yah , in fairness , Hyperdesk is closer to MyColors than it is Windowblinds. If there's going to be any comparasion made , that's the one to make.
Please tell me Kol didn't make that star trek theme. Those buttons are bad.
Then why are you saying quite clearly that you would spend your 20 dollars on Windowblinds not Hyperdesk because of all the free themes? Makes zero sense. Reply #37. Not like I'm making this stuff up.
And as far as being "malleable" goes. I'm glad people can't alter our work. The last thing i want to see is some amateur butchering our theme and showing a screenshot of it and people thinking that's what it really looks like.
Jeff....I thought your themes were for XP only, but judging by your response #42, that's not the case. Correct me if I was wrong, please. Would that interfere with WB? Would I have to configure WB so that it would not initiate at start up? How would it interact with Object Dock?
They were. Vista version is coming soon.
I don't know why it would interfere with WB. They theme differently. I would say yes you wouldn't want both trying to theme at once but you can unapply specific elements with Hyperdesk. So for example if you wanted to use a WB theme but the icon set from a Hyperdesk suite you could just uncheck the theme and click apply and it won't apply the theme portion of the suite. I use Rocket Dock but i used to use Object Dock and never had any issues.
This is Subspace for Vista: http://skinsfactory.deviantart.com/art/Hyperdesk-DM-Subspace-Vista-115698029
Without most of the icons applying. Yet. That's what we're working on now.
Jeff...because there are three options for desktop skinning [excluding alternate shells, Winstep, etc] which would be Hyperdesk, MyColors and Windowblinds.
The latter [original] has more existing options [skins]....
Were it ONLY a choice of two....Hyperdesk or MyColors then the decision would be based on individual skin/theme appeal.
I kinda like bits of your new theme/suite ....but as with many themes released....not all 'bits'. As with most skinners...it's that which draws them to create their own...
Dude you're crazy. Those buttons are awesome. If you knew the original series Star Trek you would know those are the button from the bridge panels only more vibrant. And Billy made them.
Look at the amount of detail that went into 3 titlebar buttons. If you can do better I'd really like to see. But I doubt you can. Of course if you could, I'd hire you in a second
