Hi, am wondering if there is a campaign for single player, or is just single maps?
Was gonna buy the game, but friend told me that there is no single player campaign...
Its kinda odd, but just thought i ask here first, before i buy it, cause game seems awesome, but if its only for multi play and skirmish maps, i wont buy it.
Thank you for your answers
Well if you are looking for a campaign. There is none. Wait for Starcraft 2.
I have heard that eventually there might be a campaign in one of the expansions, but thats rumormill talk.
But this game is awesome and while a campaign would be nice, I like them as well, the multi play and skirmish do an excellent job of entertaining you.
So if you are needing a campaign then Im sorry, but you will have to miss this otherwise well developed and fun game.
I would still recommend this game a must buy for any RTS fan.
There is no campaign in SINS.
That being said, I still think it is one of the best designed RTS games that I have ever played. Even without a campaign there is a wealth of depth and tactics-based gameplay, especially if you purchase the Entrenchment expansion. The replayability of this game is quite satisfactory as well. Each single player map really is a different sittuation and takes slightly different tactics to win. As for game time, I am currently playing one of the 10 player maps, and it will easily take 25-30 hours to finish the game.
So, even thought there is no campaign, SINS is most definitely a good buy.
Great game but no campaign. No campiagn in Entrenchment either.
IvoSagres have you ever played Master of Orion II, that game had NO campaign, but it is still the best TBS out there (along with Heroes of M&M III).
Sins is no different, it is one of the best RTS on the market today.
Anyway I really believe that the 3rd expansion will focus on a campaign (but don't take my word for it). I for one, recommand this game to everyone I know, if you like RTS + SCIFI + Space Battles + Empire Building, dont disregard this game because of a lack of campaign.
Thats just me talking, and now let see what the Borg have to say about this:
BUY IT NOW! OR BE ASSIMILATED
That is one thing I never thought about. When I am done with a campaign of an RTS Im bored with the game. This is not so with sins. Especially with a strong mod group.
As already said, no campaign. It is definetly a good game with an excelent gameplay, but to be honest i am dissapointed that there is still no campaign. If you think that a good book needs a good story no matter how amazing the font and the layout might be, then you will be dissapointed too.
I dont like Online-Multiplayer gaming so that part is pretty useless for me too. The skirmishes become excruciating boring after a few times as there is no point in winnig. If you wipe out everyboby(and there is no other way) you are rewarded with an picture and a few words. Basically:"Congrats you kicked everone's ass".
The backstory provided in the intro is relentlessly ignored in the game itself. You can ally the Tec with the Vasari, who fought for decades a bloody war, or with the Advent who were exspelled into the depth of space onto a desert planet by the TEC-ancestors(Sounds like Homeworld in the beginning, sadly without going into it) If you enjoyed starcraft and warcraft and Homeworld because of their storys and play skirmish only against friends or to waste a couple of minutes trying crank stuff, then i strongly recommend NOT to buy SINS.
Wait if there comes a decent campaign for Sins or wait for Starcraft 2.
Thank you for your replys.
I really need a good campaign, just skirmish is boring...
And i also dont like multiplayer...
Guess i'll wait for a expansion with a good campaign
Give it some thought, still. I'm quite like you it seems, I don't have interest in multiplayer and usually only focus on campaign-mode in other RTSs; but "skirmishes" in Sins are really special, they really have the length and epicness of most campaigns in other games. Only no scripted events, and not much background to give life to the different factions - but it's still a really awesome single-player game.
(comparatively, I had bought Dawn of War II after reading all the good reviews about how its campaign was great. Well it was nice, but once finished, there isn't much interest anymore for someone who doesn't want to go online. Uninstalled it, and working on forgetting I had bought it already. Whereas each 'skirmish' in Sins is the equivalent of a large campaign, only with a lack scenarization, but much more freedom and reflexion involved)
Just to wade in on this - I wouldn't let the lack of campaign put you off. Think what a typical mission in a space based RTS would be: destroy this, protect that, wait for reinforcements then go do whatever. Sounds like another day in the Sins universe! I mean okay, there's the reward associated with revealing the plot (if it's a good one) and at the moment, that's very much something that's left to the imagination. They sort of set the backdrop, introduce the factions, then you kind of fill in the blanks.
But the gameplay? I honestly don't believe it suffers due to a lack of campaign. There are missions all the time! Like when your outermost colonies start getting chipped away at by enemy/pirate attacks, and you have to get your main battle fleet there in time to prevent the outpost from being lost, but in the process another faction takes advantage of you being distracted and leaves your homeworld in tatters. So you end up being pushed back to one of your other planets, all vengeful and super pissed, and you might even rename if after your old homeworld in honor of it lol it's fantastic stuff if you just let your imagination go wild.
All of this said, IC could use the current Sins experience to introduce the 'players' (Advent, TEC, Vasari) and the game mechanics, then create a storyline that incorporates them all as an added bonus later on. For now, I love it as is
Yup, as others said, this game plays well without one. After finishing a 20+ hour multi-star map, you may change your mind about wanting a campaign.
I did that.
Nope, still want one, and i won't start playing again without one.
There are people who need a story to have fun, no matter how great the game might be without one. You might be able to talk them into buying it anyway but they will be dissapointed and bored.
What's wrong with playing the game in online multiplayer for a more challenging and intense game against human opponents?
Yeah, sadly, there isn't a single player campaign, but you could just play all of the available maps sequentially and think of it as a self-made campaign sans cheesey movie cut scenes and a silly story. You might even make up your own story to go along with your self-made campaign. You can also design your own maps.
Why dont i write my own novel and read it afterwards? Unless you have alzheimer that wouldn't be much fun...
And to the multiplayer-topic. More than 70% of the hoseholds worldwide don't have the proper internet-connection to play online.Others, like me, don't see the difference between a annonymous opponent in the internet and the AI.I only play Multiplayer against friends in local LAN. That way i can throw chips at him if he annoys me in game...
On the other hand if you have a fast internet-connection and enjoy bashing "strangers" then you should buy the game. But if you are expecting a ,sort of, interactive Sci-fi movie you should not.
Well, controversy is set
At least we all agree on something, it needs a good campaign.
And thou it might be fun to do skirmish, and u'r right about the "its all the same" with or without campaign, some people just needs a major objective to do missions. You know there is a new map to conquer around the corner, but you want the story to unfold while you do it
Well, while there is no campaign, am going back to Homeworld...
Most RTS games have campaigns with missions following the same model over and over again:
- Defend objective X against Y (for Z minutes)
- Search&Destroy
- Raze The Enemy Base(s)
- Do everything/anything above within X minutes.
- Do everything/anything above.
I think since a single Sins game already fulfils most of those objectives above there's no real need for a campaign unless you are missing some sort of narrated story. You can already grasp alot of background by playing different factions. I wouldn't mind a campaign per se but considering my experience with RTS games in the past I'm not really missing much.
Someone mentioned DoW2: Basically campaign and skirmish/mp part are two wholly different games but that's probably the only way how to properly narrate a story even though I rather dislike splitting a game like this.
My idea for a campaign for Sins is very simple. All the devs have to do is connect 30 systems in a chain, you play skirmish just like you do now except, every new system(level) would introduce a new varitable.
For instance the first sytems would be just the nuetral colonys, but with increased difficulty. Later levels (systems) would introduce the Advent, then later levels Vasari(if you play tec) each new system would have new surprises that you never seen before. Maybe new ships , one of a kind space amoralities(?) At the end of each LEVEL(system) there would be a (boss) that has to be defeated to move on to the next system. This way you play sins as you do now, with NO direction, YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT WHEN YOU WANT.
Yes, for the most part, each and every game you play on sins IS a campaign. YOU are the faction leader, you dont need somone telling you what to do, you are the one telling every one else what to do, deciding what kind of relationship your going to have with other factions, how and where to expand your empire, making your plan to take everything else under your control. You make your own objectives, having someone else telling you what and where to go and do would take away from the effect that its your empire. And that is what sins is about, building YOUR empire.
Some people really lack imagination. Can't you just make a backdrop story in your mind with the lore provided?
I guess it is better for some to have some cheesy sci-fi story spoon fed down their throats
I honestly don't understand the people that are saying that a campaign would be pointless, or that we should make up a story in our heads while we play and if we don't we're just lazy or lack imagination. Maybe I do lack imagination. With as good as Sins is (and it is one of the best games I have played, ever, in any genre) I think a good campaign is the one major thing this game is lacking.
That being said, a campaign would have to be designed very very carefully, and would deffinitely have to add to the experience during the game. There is such a rich back story and so much potential for a well-written campaign story, though, the game SCREAMS for one. I think if any development team can fit a campaign to the expectations of fans and players of an exsisting game, it's the folks who made Sins.
Starcraft has excellent campaigns as well as multiplayer; why can't we expect more from this game? A good campaign will only make a good game better.
However I do recommend this game even without campaign.
Oh yeah for the development team, please consider putting in a campaign!
great game but u can play multiplayer talk to people and get great tips. I for one love the game not literaly but u really dont need a campaign
I HATE campaigns in RTS games. They usually suck and they provide less freedom then normal games.
Sins is great, it does not need one. Better diplomacy in the next expansion should satisfy most of us.
In fact, I hate RTS campaigns because I play Sins. I don't miss a story mode at all.
Sins is marketed as a RT4X, not as an interactive Sci-Fi movie. Why would anyone expect that? Its got NOTHING to do with Sins.
I disagree. The Trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Pv7TtV8js suggests otherwise. Why should they introduce a story if it is basicly optical pimped chess? Btw, there is an storymode planned so i fear you have to stop playing soon, as you seem incapable of just ignoring an potential story mode...
Those who don't like story modes (the miniority) can simply not play it. But but inventing one where is none is a little more difficult.
Honestly, I would have to say I'd love to see a campaign as well. While the game clearly doesn't *NEED* one to be good, I just happen to like stories and would like to see a fully elaborated one (beyond the intro vid) for this game. And, of course, the mapping support to create our own for others to play through. Something, I expect, is actually a pretty tall order in truth, but I'm more then patient enough to wait for one to come out. I'll just continue making up stories in my head as I play, and continue toying with/tweaking/merging various mods for my own amusement in the meantime.
(Someone above mentioned the political expansion.. but I can't seem to find it to quote... Oh well, I'm *definitely* looking forward to that one. The current politics/diplomacy is so very lacking. Especially if you compare it to something like Space Empires'. It'll be nice to have more to do there.)
