This is a video I put together of a medium sized battle that took place in an online match on Entrenchment, I put a reasonable amount of time into adding color correction, motion blur, and lense flare effects to give it a more movie look, and feel to it.
I'm Advent in this video and defending my home world against two other human players, one also Advent, the other TEC. You can find a decent quality stream of it here.

Or you can download the original copy or stream a higher quality version of it here.

Man.....that was pretty awesome!!! Entrench looks sweet!
Nice video. I wish my system could run Sins on that high of a graphics setting. look great
I love it your background is just insane!
Have to say you did a good job cleaning and making it look pretty.
Thanks guys I appreciate it
That was sick. How exactly did you go about making this?
What kind of system did you play this on to get sutch awesome graphics?
Did you get rid of the interface in game or just crop your footage?
How did you capture the footage for editing?
What did you edit in?
How did you get sutch a smooth flight path for the camera?
Forgive me, I'm a bit of a video production nerd.
I went to that wegame site. I can download and play the "non-original" version (was about 41 MB), but I can't play the "original" one (was about 110 MB).
Nice video though.
1.My system specs are..... The HD2900 1 gig gpu, 6000+ 3.1ghz duelcore cpu, 4 gigs of ddr2 ram, vista 32 OS.
No mods were used in this video, I left the graphics on there highest, most of the extra graphical effects you see are pure editing. I applied color correction to the scene much like you see in hollywood movies, such as "The Matrix" having a more green tint to it while on the other hand "Underworld" has more of a blue tint to it, I decided to go for the grittier dark space type of color palette for my video.
I also applied my own custom lense flare in the scene with motion tracking so it stays on the sun rather then run off all over the screen. Lastly I added motion blur to the scene, the effect is called Real Smart Motion blur(RSMB) which you can probably read up on, all I'm going to say is that its far better then the current motion blur effects you see in video editing applications.
Dont let the smooth frame rate in the video fool you though, this battle wasnt as massive as displayed, I tend to lag in massive battles, I'd rate this as more of a medium size battle with less then a 70 ships total.
2. I got rid of the interface using ctrl+alt+z and I did some minor cropping because the mouse cursor sadly doesnt go away with it, so when moving the camera it got in the way alot which are the areas I was in need of cropping.
3. I used fraps at 60 fps fullscreen with no sound and no sync, I usually dont use this program but when a game leaves me with no additional rendering commands built into it, its kind of my only option.
4. I used Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas for editing.
5. By zooming the camera in without focusing it on any objects it reduces the movement speed for strafing with the arrow keys, and it also reduces the angle at which the camera rotates.
Sorry I didnt state this earlier, but the wegame download for the original file is encoded in h264(bad ass codec btw) which requires a player that can decode the h264 codec, try downloading vlc player if you wish to view that one. Next time I'll think about using a more viewable codec although it may not look as good next time as far as quality goes when I do.
whats the name of the software you used to edit this movie and put it together? I'd love to make one of my own but I dont really know much about the software you need
P.S I loved the video very well edited as well, I actually thought it was an oriinal cgi rather than the ingame fotage at first
i would like to say that this video is a more than 5stars video, very clean. your video made it feel like i was inside a probe cockpit on firstperson view. nice job kronos7, tnx for sharing this.
p.s. if you don't mind i put this video on myspace
Cool video. Nice job!
Thanks again guys, I'll see if I can do a more trailer like video next time
Sure be my guest, I encourage it to be spread
The post above yours will tell you.
That video was wicked cool!!! Was the camera jiggle all from the in game rendering or did you add some. It really adds to feel of really being there. Epic look.
There's a camera twist setting in the options, I'm pretty sure that's what makes it rotate by itself in cinematic mode. I never experimented with it, though, so I couldn't say for certain.
Quicktime supposedly will read h264, but it says there is an "invalid sample description" in the file. I'll look in to the vlc player later. I need to finish sorting all the data from my hard drive to clean up some of the redundancy.
As for the codec issue:Here is a site that compares some codecs. You may have seen it before though. Of the lossless codecs they compared, I've downloaded the Lagarith codec. I haven't tried compressing any game footage though, as I haven't found a screen recorder that can keep up (even at an uncompressed capture setting). I did however throw a simple animation from one of my classes through it. I'll edit this post with file sizes shortly. I haven't tried using fraps yet for screen recording.
edit:
Just a few of the codecs on my system.
Uncompressed: 121,316 KB
MJPG (quality = 100): 21,743 KB
MJPG (quality = 75): 5,339 KB
Cinepak (quality = 100): 2,945 KB
Cinepak (quality = 75): 2,297 KB
Lagarith: 14,088 KB
lol annatar your silly, he just posted that above your reply, atleast you do a scim read rather than reading the whole post it seems. lmao!
WOW! JUST WOW!!!!!
Now if only I could be my videos to look that epic.
I actually didn't read it at all. I saw the vid a few minutes before I had to head off to work so I didn't read the thread
Usually I don't skim but read everything.
I love that kind of tech demo video with phat electro beats. It reminds me of the Black Mesa Source Teaser trailer. I wish I knew how to do that.
It was unavoidable, there was no way I could I would of been able to do a absolute perfect smooth ride without atleast some motion tracking stability put into it. So I actually ended up trying to develop more jiggle to the camera movement using After Effects then what was previously there from the unedited version.
So originally the jiggle look to it wasnt intentional until later down the road when I thought it actually kinda looked interesting.
Firstly, just wow. Loved the vid and the editing is top notch, it makes the scene of the Radiance dieing as emotional as the pilot of BSG watching the Battlestars die.
But how cool would it be if the actual game could have this kind of imagery. How far off are we from graphics cards being able to apply these kind of image filters to our games? Primarily the colour hue filter, it's a pretty special effect but ofcourse the motion blur effect probably added something to, but it's subtle enough for me to not notice it which is perfect.
nice vid!
very nice. liked the slow missily fly-by. that was pretty sweet.
What resolution did you record it at? I notice the lack of HD option on youtube, thus leading me to believe another reason as to the seemingly smooth FPS
Also, fraps has the option of "No cursor." Check that off and the pointer won't show up in the video (saves you some editing), I've used After Effects... guess I'll have to look into vegas as well.
The HD option was available a few days ago I dont know what happened to it, try viewing the wegame version until its working again on youtube I suppose. Anyway the resolution I recorded at was 1440x900 resized to 1280x720 for video editing.
Hmmm I didnt realize that turns the cursor off ingame, I'll have to check that out thanks.
