how many people are on a starbase just wondern for possible future fan fic.
If it's got Vasari colony pods, quite a lot (but perhaps in cramped conditions- say that the Spartan-like Vasari don't seem to mind). If without colony pods, the Vasari should have the least number of people- in fact, it wouldn't be bad if you could have only a few dozen personnel, all wired up and connected to the various starbase systems, mostly organising and giving orders, with automation and nanobots doing most of the work.
TEC should have quite a lot of personnel, with many involved in trade ports and construction bays. There should also be a lot of non-military personnel too, with all the trade going on- think Deep Space Nine.
The Advent should be somewhere in the middle- think of their Starbase as a huge cathedral, not filled with people, but still able to contain quite a few. There should of course be more specialization and unity (heh) among the personnel, compared to a TEC starbase. And it would certainly be much more quiet.
i want numbersI figure most starbases have over like 200,000k
What, you just want a number? OK, I'd say less, from 10 to 20k. Perhaps much more for Vasari with colony pods, though.
I was wondering if there was ANYONE in the vasari base at all ....more like a huge forward offensive/defensive STRUCTURE. Beside's with the funky movement of the base , inside living would be like a boat in rough seas...forever.
Humans might have tens of thousands, but theoretically a skeleton crew of hundreds could operate the base. An aircraft carrier today can have 5,700 crewmen. It really depends on what systems the base has. Trade ports mean civilians. Booms mean repair crews. Construction means repair crew and engineers along with officers transfering to the cruisers. If it's weapons only, only a handful of people would be needed to operate guns and then pilots and pit crews. So Sotris might have the right range for humans. I might group Advent and TEC together cause they both think in human terms.
Only the Vasari would be reaching into the hundreds of thousands. They are refugees after all. Of course, their base would only suffer turbulence or even gravity changes if within the gravity well. Otherwise, artificial gravity would make it a smooth ride. Given their status, think of a non-com starbase as potentially housing a million.
I would say with the tec basic starbase about 2000, add all the weapons about 4000 total (for more opperating, ammunition and repair crews) add all the armor, mabey 100-300 more (for shield progecter manitance crews). add all the fighter support, about 2000 more (for strike craft pilots and the manitance and command crews) add the trade ports, about 3000 more (for all the trade storage bays crews, trade ship crews, and all the other personel and facilitys incorprated in to the base for tradeing). Add the temporary govenment, about 200 more. Add the resupply, about another 2000 for resupply crews (some of that could probaly be incorperated into the trade crews if present).
So your looking at a viriety of diffrent populations on a tec starbase, depending what it is equiped with.
id aree with 10,000 -20,000 given that their relative size compared to cap ships
Well I would think that 200k is a reasonable number. When you think about Babylon 5, it was 5 miles long and had 250k inhabitants.
I love it when sci-fi shows are compared, whether for competition or statistics. Babylon 5 has an amazingly dense population if you think about it, but all 3 dimensions would have to come into play. Then you have Star Wars which is the epitome of "Go Big or Go Home", but the populations there don't even compete with Star Trek or Babylon 5, proportionately.
Not sure if there is a good answer to this one.
okay, just wanted to use this icon.
The great thing about the virgin Sins universe is that a lot of the details are still being fleshed out. So feel free to let your imagination soar!
the thing we have to agree on is, how BIG are these things?
im not sure about the starbases but the battleships do look big, but HOW big is the question??
Is the Kohl 1/2 mile long, or 3 miles long?
Is The Evacuator 3x3x3 or 7x4x2?
i think it matters on how big u want the things for #s.
That would be cool to have actual size and specs on each ship and strutures, (maybe a unlockable extras connected to the achivements for players to read after compleating each one, like in Battlestations: Midway). This would also give a real insentive to reach each achivement. You could also throw in a basic timeline/story line with it.
That is one of the BEST ideas I have seen for the achievments! Absolutely briliant way to make the achievments acutally mean something.
Yeah, when I first started playing the game, I thought that there were unlockables, thus a reason to have achievments. But after a few games, with me striveing to get a bunch achievments accomplished, I started looking around the menu for the unlockables, but there were none. Sence then, I always thought that the achevments were ment for a X-box 360 version of the game, but it never happend.
Thanks for karma sawakaki
True, that's why I stopped looking for the ponies.
And thus far, I've done some comparisons. Apparently, assuming all things are to scale, the caps are about the width of Asia. They have what, 3 billion?
Woops, gave karma to the wrong person. What the hell, more to go around!
LOL, the planets do look a little small when compared to larger structures like refineries and starbases, don't they? Starbases look darn near the size of the planet!
he he he
i found space ponies early in the game
You bastard! Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted a space pony... but then I became a man and learned about facing one's disappointments.
And yes, I think the average starbase should have 6 million. Kols, 3 million.
The ships are probably not scaled correctly when compared to planets and moons, but they should be scaled properly against each other.
Apart from the Vasari, space stations would not have an extensive engineering crew, as they probably lack everything except stabilizer drives. Of course, that means they can use that space a starship would devote to drives with weapons and armor, which require crews. Starbases probably also have a large compliment of Marines (and equivalent) as boarding actions should be rather common against them as they are large, immoveable objects of a high priority.
Then there's strikecraft support, with all the maintenance and multiple combat crews for that.
And then you have to double to triple that number in order to meet the multiple shifts required in a single day.
Probably around four times the crew of a battleship.
Yeah, i dont think the planets are scaled correctly with everything else, but its a good thing though, if they were, it would take an hour to get your fleet from one side of the planet to the other. then think about how big stars are.... wouldnt be that fun, they would have to make some kind of in system jump drive to make the game playable, and that would compleatly change the game. if the planets were scale, the fighers would be the size of new york city.
