ok so the problem im having is in the begining of the game i do fine against a normal Ai. i stay back and play a defensive game building up my fleets and hangers/repair bays ect. only problem i have is when the Ai has 1 or 2 planets left i switch to aggresive and try to wipe them out and i always either get pummled or they back track and colinize planets next to the ones im attacking. i try to go aggresive because i dont want to give them time to build up a fleet and defences while im preparring to attack
so Should i stay back and prepare more or is there a diff. strat to being aggresive or is there something completely different i can try?
Another quick 2 question if yall dont mind.
1. If i have a fleet on a diff. planet then where my frigate factory is ,is there a way to have them auto join that fleet if i put the rally point on the planet with the fleet?(sorry if that to confusing)
2.when i have a fleet i always put the auto attack "on" but when i zoom into the fleet they never are auto attack stuctures like labs/trade ports ect. is that normal( do you have to micro manage that much) or am i not doing something right?
If anyone can help and tell me how to upload replays of games played i can try to upload one to give yall a better idea of what im doing( or not doing)
Thanks for all the help in advance
The AI can be quite annoying to finish off. There are two approaches to killing them outright. The first is what I call the "steamroller" and the second is what I call the "constriction". In a steamroller, you literally sweep across their remaining empire with your fleet, destroying everything in your path. Don't colonize anything you don't want to leave a fleet behind to defend, just keep moving. You don't care if they colonize new planets or run away, because they will never have time to build up any infrastructure before your fleet gets there, and eventually will run out of room to run. The second option is the same idea as a bao-constrictor. Every time they breath, you tighten your grip slightly. You need to split your fleet into at least two groups. Use a scout to figure out which flank they've positioned their main fleet, then attack somewhere else. Once they've jumped out of the system they were defending, launch another attack force against this newly vacated location. If you're fast enough, you can conquer both planets while the AI is travelling across its empire. Because they're busy moving to defend another location, they don't think to counter-attack. To deal with those annoying siege frigates, just build a single hanger defense in each planet you conquer.
If you have Entrenchment, just go Starbases and wage culture war. It's always faster than go one fleet and try to kill everything in a larger map.
Split as many different fleet as you can as well, you can do it.
Q&A
1. Why don't you just put the rally point directly on your fleet or a Capital ship ?
2. Did you create a fleet or just let them follow your fleet leader? The AI will always attack the most dangerous objects first, yes, construct ships are dangerous, too. Sometimes the lasers and missles are flying all over the places, hold Alt to check what your ships are actually attacking.
I don't know how to upload my replays neither, lol.
first dude got it kinda spot on though with the second option if you have entrentchment that second fleet you use to attack whilst the enemy is busy should consist of more than a few seige frigates since the new defenses will likely shred them to bits ut thats god
Culture is a great way to keep a broken empire down. Even if you leave the planet barren, they can't be colonized if there's too much culture around. Make sure the enemy caps are dead, and they'll have nowhere to go.
Also, heavy culture suppression forces the enemy to build a huge amount of their own. If they only have a few planets left, this means they will have no leftover room to build science labs, frigate factories, or trade ports.
Culture is a great way to prevent recolonization, but actually killing someone off with culture takes way too long when you're approaching a capital, especially if a few capital ships are sitting around providing cultural resistance.
Can't speak too much about entrenchment as I don't own it yet, but I'd imagine that you could build your own starbases quickly to consolidate and fortify captured territory quickly.
This is path for your replay folds (I just find the info in the forum FAQ thread:)
