I apologize if this has already been asked and answered. I tried everything I could think of in-game and looked around on the forum and with Google.
I'm trying to rename a ship that's in a stack or a fleet. Currently I have to move the ship out of the stack/fleet so it's on its own in its own tile, rename it, then move it back into the stack/fleet. This can obviously slow movement down a bit (wasted moves) and is quite an inconvenience.
Any ideas?
Try the details button.
I'm pretty sure that you can't rename a ship that is part of a fleet, or at least I've never figured out how to do it. There is no Ship Details button for a fleet, and the only way I've been able to do what the OP describes is to break the ship out of its fleet, move it to a square by itself, and then click the name or the Rename Ship button.
I have. I can click on the individual ship in the fleet listing and then click the "details" button. However, I've never found a way to rename a ship from the Details window. None of the buttons on the left do it, and I've clicked just about everywhere in the Details window (including the ship name itself) just to be sure I'm not missing some unmarked button. Nothing in the Intelligence Report window either.
There is no way to do it without breaking a fleet and moving the ship you want to name. They should add a more accessable renaming feature. You can, however, avoid wasted moves by making the ship you want to move, move in the direction the fleet is headed. Then rename and have the rest of the fleet move ontop of the renamed ship and regroup.Forget everything I just said. Bring up the Ship List, it is either F1 or F2 and then find the ship you want to rename in there. Then click on it and it should select it as if selecting a ship that isn't in a fleet, even if it is in a fleet. Because of that the rename ship button is available and working.
