sweet! thank you ironclad
my inpulse will do it atuo? if so when there nothing there for me as of now abit new to this place sorry
I thought so... with the bugs of the last update it is about time they fixed, but i hoped it was sooner
no launch impulse, go to my games, and it will auto-check updates for you just click update on the bottom right corner and done
I have noticed one thing about fleet formation.
If you build some ships and assinge them to a fleet at build from the dock.
After you build them and they are headed to said fleet no problem unless you change the dock assiangment to another fleet. Then said ships that haven't reached their assigned fleet will join the second fleet instead of the first fleet.
So how can I revert back to v1.14?
No one told me that this pretty insignificant patch would screw up all my saved files from v1.14. I have a saved file I'd like to finish since I already wasted about 8 hours on it.
So how do I revert back to v1.14? I do not want to hear that I can't... if you're going to make a patch that screws up every saved file there better be a warning or a way to revert...
No way to revert, unless you had an archive of 1.14.
I believe every patch has been incompatible with previous game saves. This is common to most games. If you're worried about that in the future, you can archive whatever version you wish by using Impulse. Then just uninstall the current version and restore your archive.
Edit: Curse you Annatar for beating me yet again. *shake fist*
Do replays work again?
damn
Let me ask you, what "most" games are like this?
I've actually never had this issue before where all my saved files are incompatible due to some minor changes to the game. Replays have been made incompatible due to patches yes, but not saved files. I don't know what games you play that always screw up your saved files but I've never had this issue. So this of course never did come across my mind.
As for "I believe every patch has been incompatible with previous games", well that's great. However I'm new to this game and this is the first time I patch since I've started a game that I had to save. Now, let me tell you how great it is that there is a warning in the patch notes (or anywhere for that matter) that tells me that all my previous saved files will become unplayable.
I am very worried about this in the future. So how do I go about archiving my current version? I'm assuming that patches do not auto-archive themselves.
So, you are telling me there is absolutely no way to revert to v1.14?
I apologize if I am sound angry at the moment (which I am) but this is the first time that this has happened to me due to a patch. I've also never had this type of problems reverting to a previous version of a game. So all this wasted time playing a game to have to ruined for 12 little updates. Any actual help would be appreciated.
I believe replays were fixed along the way?
you could always have someone send you a copy of their sins before they patched it. I would recommend whoever sends you their copy to change the serial number.
Beg Frogboy to post incrimental updates so you could play the saved game
Yay
Fujuki
I'm glad to see that the crash issues have been fixed and that replays should work again now.
What the hell does this mean, exactly? How is the "range" determined--wouldn't it be based on a radius?
prolly means that if progen is in system with a ship that lost all its sheilds and is not in range of the the repair radius that the auto cast will not turn on cause the progen would not restore that ship's shields anyways
I'm sorry you're distraught. Off the top of my head, I can't just list games that have exhibited this same behavior, but I'm positive I've dealt with this issue numerous times in the past. When you're overhauling the core gameplay files, you can't expect an old save to understand the new architecture. This isn't unique to Ironclad.
Thank you for the patch and the change log
At least a notification that older savegames will be incompatible would have been nice. It would be understandable if you went from 1.1 to 2.0 or even 1.5, but 1.14 to 1.15? This is ridiculous..
Well then you must agree that it isn't "most" games that do this if you can't even name me one.
I'm sure it's happened to a few games out there, but it certainly is not common to most games and I don't see how you are considering this to be acceptable.
Let’s just compare this to a couple of games made by Blizzard, let’s say StarCraft and WarCraft games. Patches for both these games never made previous saved files invalid. They did make old replays invalid which was inconvenient, but saved files were still playable. Now let’s just compare the games, SC/WC matches lasted a half hour, maybe up to an hour. They were never that long, but if you did have to save you could. And now let’s just assume patches made old saved files invalid, well then you might lose about an hour of a game. Annoying but it would just be about an hour max. Compare this to Sins of a Solar Empire, where a single match can last multiple hours, you are much more likely to have a saved file for this game and you a more likely to spend a lot of time on a single match. And a little patch (that doesn’t even offer major changes to the game) makes saved files invalid.
I think that’s absolutely ridiculous and needs to be changed. I mean I did not even see a notification, any warning that this would happen if I patched. And since most games do not render previous saved files invalid after patching this never even crossed my mind as I was downloading the update.
But on top of all that, there is no way to revert to the previous patch. No option within Impulse to select which patch to download. No stand alone file to patch the game. It’s already pretty ridiculous that I’d have to uninstall the game, so I could reinstall it and patch it to the patch I want… But I can’t even do that! Where is the user friendliness in that?
Look at the changes this patch brought… fixed a few bugs and crashes… That’s about it… And just that rendered my previous games incompatible? This was not a major patch. I think it’s pretty clear that I’m completely amazed and very disappointed by this. I was loving this game until it kicked me in the balls last night.
So I have a question. I play this game with a friend back home. Let's assume we were to start a big game one night, and since we’re both in different time zones (and with our jobs) we’re limited on how much time we can play together each day. So saving a game is necessary and would probably take us weeks to complete. So if I do this (which we did plan to do), I would never be able to patch this game until we completed our match? And what if one weekend we can’t play together but I’d like to play online with random people, I wouldn’t be able to cause they are more than likely patched to the latest version and I simply can’t update mine or I’ll lose the game I’ve been playing with my friend? That sounds reasonable to you guys here?
Either way, I apologize for ranting on everyone here. I realize there really isn’t much anyone can do about this and that most of you apparently think this is perfect reasonable. So I must be expecting too much. I would at the very least expect a way to revert back to the previous patch, all I want to do is finish my game. Is that too much to ask for?
If has been a well know fact that when you update you lose your saved games. Its been like that for every update since the start.
EA threw MegaBucks at C&C3 and they couldn't patch without invalidating saves.
As I said in my first post, I'm new to the game and this has been one of the first time I had to patch the game since I saved a match. Thanks for reading. Also, it's also not "a well known fact" to a new player if I had no idea it would happen.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's been said many timse that saved files are invalid once patched. At this point everyone reading this knows this problem. Now I'm glad we all think that this is all "working as intended" so I guess we can just leave it all at that.
Look, I know your pissed off. But I dont deserve to be caught in the crossfire. I said that, cuz your new and you may not of know that. All I can say, way not to be a blind sheep and patch without reading up on the patches themself. Sure this change log does not say IN bold letters will make replays and save games invaild. But if you did some reasearch on previous patches you will find ppl have said the same thing you said every patch. So before you get bitchy again, and decide to bash somone b/c they share some info to better help you understand that this is a well understood topic. Think. You had the choice to update. So its your fault for such. Not mine, IC, Stardock, or anyone else who might be involved.
Besides, if you honestly got a problem the you need to talk to IC. Its support@ironcladgames.com . NOT us.
Also, I should point out: while this patch invalidated old custom galaxy map files, there was no actual change to the file's format (unlike the previous time this happened). Go into the .galaxy file with Notepad, change "VERSION_INDEX 2" to a 3, and save the file. It'll still work.
