Id like to stop and give a moment to the victims of the horrendous fires we are facing at the moment in victoria and melbourne, and the families who have lost everything but the clothes on their back, and to those who have also lost family members.
Arsonists would have to be the cruelest and sickest criminals of all and I know that they WILL BE CAUGHT.
Lets hope the fires become undercontrol soon.
And I want to give a mighty thanks to the men behind the scenes, the firefighters, who voluneer their time and efforts tirelessly...
Perhaps God was hoping we'd have the intelligence to progress.. to not repeat past mistakes, to have matured and to see that taking a life is wrong, no matter who does it...
Sorry God, looks like ya failed.
Honestly, this will go nowhere, trying to change a person's mind here, is like talking to styrofoam, it just ain't gonna happen.. so back to the topic, we should keep our thought's with those who need them, instead of something good [the thought behind this topic] turning into a warmonger's fest.
Those two suspects were released without charges being laid..........
The Hippocratic oath intends that to mean not to harm a patient, and by extension, in America physicians are barred by their state medical ass'ns from participating in an execution.
That does not extend to not being allowed to have one's own opinions and feelings about the death penalty, or by extension laws regarding the use of deadly force in self defence.
Arguments about this are pointless and tend to entrench one deeper in one's own opinion.
As you said earlier, "Let's agree to disagree".
Each of us is free to hold his or her opinion, and that's as it should be...and those should be addressed respectfully.
Incidentally, in Israel physicians take the Oath of the Hebrew Physician which like all Oaths has varied through the centuries.
Hope you're not in any danger.
I could give you a good reply to your comment, but I don't want to start a political discussion about terrorism in this thread. I rest my case until I see such a thread.
Doc.. if you re-read my last few posts, I'm the one who said we are each entitled to our own opinion, and that it was futile to try and change other people's opinion's to match your own.
PS.. I'm not in any danger yet.. only from my Doctor.
Though a town not far from us is basically off the map now.. damnit.. nice place too.
Moving along now...
Let's keep politics and religion out of the discussion.
The two guys arrested were released. Even suggestions of looting are media speculation and there's no actual basis.
It appears two fires are 'suspicious' [that's cop-speak for 'deliberate'].
Last I heard there are still 23 going....over 1000 houses razed.... a couple of towns no longer exist except in name/memory.
Wildlife losses are simply listed as 'millions'.
I have no desire or intention to pay for anyone to sit safely in a jail while I grieve for family members or friends while I'm out busting my ass at a job with health problems to pay for some worthless piece of crap to sit in a cell. Bullets are cheaper! End of story! And the offender condemed himself to death the day he took anothers life.
No offense....but people of Islam already did that and continue doing it by they're actions.
"Your actions speak so loudly, that I cannot hear a word your saying"
Now...I'm not going to go around giving people of islam a hard time...but they will also get no trust or respect from me until they start taking a more active roll in ending when they're fellow islamist started.
WebGizmos....the request is to leave politics and religion out of this thread.
Let's respect that.
Any more news?
Not a great deal....the wind's now an easterly so the smoke's heading towards Melbourne....so people with respiratory problems will suffer a bit.
It's unlikely the fires will be under control before the next weather-related flare-up.
I just went outside....the smoke has quite an acrid smell....not at all like the 'typical' bushfire.
I think what ever happens to the prick/s that set these fire should be handed over to the firies. They will tie this person to a tree in the path of the fire and give him the same chance that the victims had (NONE).
If this prick ends up in jail he will never get out alive because the prison population will want to kill him.
Either way this bloke is screwed!
Great
God never loose lol, Its just person's true belief in God that is lost..
Well....looks like they got one of these 'people' that some demand must not be executed....
Lit a fire....
Killed 19...
...and to top it off he's been charged with child porn.
Really nice 38 year old bloke everyone should hug and kiss.
I don't think so.
Good thing is...if he's a rock-spider he's in for an enjoyable time in prison....
Exactly Jafo, they don't like rock spiders there.
Jafo i think this wanker will find out the hard way what playtime in jail is......couldnt happen to a nicer person!
As for the comment "I think what ever happens to the prick/s that set these fire should be handed over to the firies. They will tie this person to a tree in the path of the fire and give him the same chance that the victims had (NONE)" this what some of the fire fighters would do.....my uncle is a fire fighter and i have heard him and a few of fellow fire fighter say the exact same thing.
I will say that the CFA crews fighting these fires do an outstanding job with what little they have and are outstanding people for the job they are not paid to do.
Ahhh....such a bright future to look forwrd to....couldn't happen to a slimier creature.
The count is something like 1834 houses destroyed.
The Kiwis are here...as are guys from the US and Canada ....everywhere that have people who know what a wildfire is.
I guess it's 'one way' to see the world.... however not the 'prettiest' bits.
I'm so glad our guys are pitching in. Makes one realize the depth of the ties that bind. I'm proud of everyone who's doing it.
Besides that not being the 'prettiest'? Thank G-d you've a HUGE continent...mostly untouched...and I hope the lads and lassies who went to help get some time to experience the wonder of your incredibly gorgeous land.
*doc also gave everyone Jafo's address and told them about the free pizza and beer he offered.
If it had been a natural occurence it would be disaster enough...but purposely set is very sad.My thoughts and prayers go out to you all, victims and survivors alike.
I've refrained from commenting in this thread because I'm so angry that some of these fires appear to have been deliberately lit, and I didn't want to offend anyone or get barred for the language I would have used while in a state of depression and suffering anxiety issues.... constant and unrelenting pain has a nasty habit of having me spew forth words that would not be acceptable or appreciated in a public forum, hence my absence here thus far.
However, I do feel the need to comment on the sad loss of life and property, and my heart goes out to all those affected by this enormous tragedy. While the material things can be replaced/rebuilt in time, it's the horrendous loss of life and personal injuries that has affected me most, and my thoughts are with all those who have lost family and friends to this tragic event.
Furthermore, it seems, some are learning no lessons from the tragedy of the Victorian bushfires. Shaunna tells me that two fires in the Launceston suburbs of Waverley and Mayfield were deliberately lit down in Tasmania. How sad it is that some individuals have a such complete disregard for life, limb and property. Now I'm not normally an advocate of the death penalty, but I believe some serious rethinking is required with regards to crimes of such magnitude, where a deliberate act of arson results in the loss of life, particularly on the scale as seen in Victoria.
Sadly, in our bid to become 'more civilised', we in the Western World have become too soft on crime and victims are not seeing justice for all their heartaches and suffering, so yes, in extreme case, maybe capital punishment is a better solution/deterrent than imprisonment. I know some here are opposed to the death penalty because it is taking life and barbaric, but seriously, how is it any less barbaric than sending somebody to prison to be brutalised, sodomised and murdered by other inmates and guards... YES, guards.
I know of some-one who was anally raped by guards at the Wacol prison here in Queensland. Now he has some serious health and mental issues, so is far from being rehabilitated, but was still released back into the community to re-offend, perpetrate horrendous crimes against children. So yes, we as a society really need to think where we're heading with our thoughts on crime and punishment... not to mention the enormous costs involved to keep those who can not/will not be rehabilitated in prison. We all pay... for a system that can be far more brutal on serious offenders than an orderly, quick and humane execution.
