Loved that game, but to me it sorta died. With the impending release of WiC The Complete Pack and Soviet Assault, anyone plan to get back into the game?
Soviet Assault planned for a March release(no specific dates yet)
Not me - sorry
Game was virtually born dead due to number of fundamental design errors across the board and mini-expansion won't fix it...
I had extremely high hopes for it (being long time Ground Control fan) but for me it turned out to be way too shallow and way below my game play standards.
As if this wasn't enough already, cherry on the top is a fact that WiC has got one of the worse online communities I have ever seen...
In short, total disaster really
Saying that, I am defo keeping an eye on Massive and potential future project(s) !!!
Hope dies last!
I've ordered it for £8 because of responses in the thread: http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/338126
Hoping I will like it more than -=XX=-Nephilim
i have it and love it as the graphics are amazing but im not sure im gonna get the expasion as its being published by a different company ( Ubi-crap ) is what i dislike the most since ubisoft's stuff has been crap like FC2 (since u cant mod it). but i'll wait till the reviews to make a final decion on the matter
World in Conflict?!?What is that?
I played the demo it was fun, interesting, but I am on a short budget right now...
Shallow? Fundamental design errors? Horrible online community? I've been playing since it came out and I haven't noticed any of these things :/.
I think you should take a second look at it, Nephilim.
For me, it's one of the few games where strategy is defined by more than 'Bigger army!' and tactics is more than 'Attack move!'.
Been following it since Pre-Alpha! So I can say I know it quite well
Comparing it to Ground Control series it is defo let down in every possible sense and department appart from gfx and built in clan support, imho...
Looking at it alone, without keeping GC in mind or any other decent RTS title, its kinda fun for few weeks...
Saying that - it surely is different than anything else out there while it also tried to reorder / change / refresh professional gaming scene and move it away from CSS and likes... It tried, but failed... But just for being different and trying something else I still respect it
Shame that respect alone isn't enough, at least for me, to fill all the gaps in game design...
Oh well, have a fun with SA when it comes out guys and let us know how it plays
I'll be somewhere around here - Entrenching
I`m still playing the single player campaign of the original; I take my time! I`ll likely grab the expansion - can`t inadvertantly destroy too many American towns you know...
I probably will. I enjoyed WiC as a *beautiful* RTS beer-and-pretzels wargame. Unfortunately, I think the bitter division that occured between the casual players and the so-called "expert" players killed that game. Hopefully, the expansion will give the game a fresh start.
I loooooved the single player campaign in that game. One of the best I've ever played in a game that supported multiplayer as well.
Definitely, the whole pro mentality was what really killed the game. Sad fact was though that aside from infantry players, the pros didn't actually have very good individual skill. I did very well in a few clans but I quit clanning, because all they did was whine about how "pubs and noobs" were totally "ruining WiC".
I enjoyed that game immensly for a rather short period of time. I played the hell out of it online until I got sick of no one cooperating and moved on. That and I found the game too shallow to satisfy my longterm interest (though I'm not saying it's a bad game).
Demo was pretty good but it just didn't compell me to get the game. Sorry
I've heard such great things and how its better than EndWar. Though I'm still looking for a copy.
Well, not me. I've got Ground Control 2 if I want to play a game that is very similar.
I'm definitely going to be getting the expansion.
I loved the demo back when it came out, but just didn't have the money to buy it. But just last week I found a copy of the collectors edition brand new hiding in my Gamestops' INCREDIBLY SMALL PC section for 30 bucks and decided to pick it up.
Love the game.
Yeah, I finally found a copy! I can't wait to play it!
I'll probably pick it up - since I never got around to it the first time around. And if I can log out of The Lord of the Rings Online long enough to eat.
WiC has to be the greatest game of its type! It's gotta have the best in-game graphics I've ever seen for a PC RTS. Anyone just thinking of getting it should get it!
Wow I thought I was the only one
Like -=XX=-Nephilim I followed WiC since the Alpha......bought it.....had the very first non-Massive Entertainment dedicated server up for WiC on release-day......played it for a few months......and then when the stat-whores and ladder-bitches ruined the game......I left.
The only reason I have to go visit the community now and then, is my networking tech-support sticky which I check from time to time for new questions.
-monk out!
I'm waiting until I get a better computer before I get into the game again
I would have loved to mod for it, but I never checked to see whether or not it was possible.
LoL...
Ground Control (both 1 and 2) own WiC hands down
So no - you guys are not the only ones...
@Monk
How are you sir
What thee is playing these days?
Since I moved to Mac and got ultra busy recently with work i play hardly anything at all - apart from Sins when I manage to squeeze some time out...
In fact, can you PM if you see this msg, got something to ask you
I used to play it before I got a new hard drive. After I swapped out my hard drive, I never reinstalled it because I didn't want Securom to be installed on it (short of reformatting my hard drive, I don't know of any way to get Securom back off once installed). However, this sentence on one of there update announcements has brought me hope that I can once again play this game:
"-Securom protection has been removed, the DVD disk is no longer required in the drive during Single Player play."
This announcement can be read here:

It will be the first line of the new features section.
Since they have removed Securom on the first game, I feel its a safe bet that the complete edition will not have have it either, so there should be nothing to stop me from playing this game again. At least there wouldn't be if I could actually find a copy of World in Conflict: Complete Edition. Wal-mart lists it as coming out in April, Gamestop doesn't list it for preorder in the store (although it is listed to come out on the 16th of March online), and the official game site says that it was supposed to have released on the 10th of March, which was, of course, two days ago. So until some store around here gets it, I will have to wait, although the wait will be very much worth it! Until then, I will enjoy the new trailers released for the game, the Aerial Assault trailer on gametrailers being one of my favorites, second only to the New York CGI with the helicopter assault on Liberty Island.
