I see that Galactic Civilizations II will after all be releasing a complete retail package with DL, DA, and ToA all in one box. It releases on Feb. 10th on Amazon. Does anyone know what will be in the box? A new manual? Any extras? Barebones?
Stardock has been curiously quiet about this release. I'm especially confused because I could swear they were dead set against retail release for ToA. I'm also crazy excited, because I've only been playing DL so far and can't wait to try the new stuff! I do hope the digital DLs for the expansions drop in price, otherwise I'll just buy the Ultimate at retail since it's actually cheaper. ($39.99)
Anyone privy to any info on this?
Yeah, I hope they drop the price on Impulse. I'd rather my $40 go directly to Stardock.
I thought GC2:UE was the international (Europe/Asia) edition, distro rights were purchased by a third-party, etc...?
Right.
But there's now another Ultimate Edition (in addition to Stardock's in-house digital download Ultimate Bundle).
Makes your head spin, doesn't it?
GalCiv2's biggest problem is the naming scheme which, as far as big problems go, is pretty minor
Just wait-sooner or later we're going to have a Universal Edition...and there will be yet another UE to add to that list!
[Note: This is sarcastic. I really don't expect any more at this point.]
I hope they make one just to mess with us.
Maybe just to mess with you.
But I'll have been expecting it!
So here we are, one day from release, and SD still has not given any info on the US Ultimate Edition of GalCiv2. Is it really even shipping tomorrow? Why the secrecy? Wouldn't it be prudent to, oh I don' know, advertise a retail release so as to sell some copies? Just a simple post on the site would be nice. What gives?
Come to think of it, I have never really seen much in the way of advertisements from stardock. I see articles on sites talking about their games, but that is the job of said sites (to keep the masses informed of what is 'hot' and coming out). So I suspect that they depend on just word-to-mouth + the sight of it in stores to sell copies.
Sins and Demigod have had extensive advertising in PC Gamer. I mean to the point that it seems every issue just has them for months now. Those games weren't produced 100% by SD, but still.
