If you are considering buying this game dont.....
you will have nothing but bother trying to get it to work, bother trying to update it , bother getting a reply from the helpdesk, bother trying to configure you router to play online.
If you want a proper online space game try EvE online
http://www.eve-online.com/ you can download a free 14 day trail.
I spent £30 on this game and have been ripped off. Trading standards should step in and close this farce down!!!
Sins of a solar empire.... a Sin is right!!!

ROFL!!! Thanks for posting this on the site. Gives us something to smile about.
Sorry you had so much trouble. For most of the users all works very well.
Perhaps if you posted specifically the problems you had they might be addressed in the forum by other users while support catches up from the holiday backlog. (It's possible all the Game-of-the-Year awards may have flooded them with questions)
if you post a problem the community here is really helpful but slandering a game theres no point to it
To be honest, I just prefer people with that kind of disposition to stay the hell off the forums I frequent. But then, I always have been a bastard...
Ok here goes
Product key dosent work, so cant properly update
cant connect to online multiplayer , and game is reporting network error
the gamespy type software that the site recommends just doesnt wanna work
.... I have been gaming for years and I have never ever had this much grief from a game.
Its hardly slander if its true... other people need to be made aware of the issues concerned with this game...
*sniff* *sniff*
I smell a plug
lol a butt plug??
i played eve online for years, and i love this game, sides you shouldnt have a problem if u try and solve it.
trading standards are just a piece of paper.
by "other people" I assume you mean the 1 mil or so that are having no problems? compared to the two or three that are, and decide to complain? no offense intended, of course, but it is slander, since you are one of only a few experiencing problems like that. it's not the game itself, as many, many people are having no problem whatsoever
and just because you had problems with the game, it doesn't mean everyone will. it'd be libel if it was published, but it's not, so it's slander. technically.
To be honest I haven't used the multiplayer, but singleplayer works like a dream, updates nicely from impulse for me. Also at the moment the company is going to busy getting back on help requests and such as they just got back from holiday this week if I remember correctly.
If it a retail disk you have, the game should intsall version 1, which if the disk isn't dodgy should be playable from the start. The patch for version 1.5 can be got as it was made early before Impulse was brought in by stardock. So something like fileplanet could have the patch. But the patch is really balancing things a bit more. After that you need Impulse to get all the other patches.
Which for that to work is a valid email address and a unregistered product key.
Let me say it again the game is playable from version 1, I played that for months with no crashes and such.
Hope the info helps.
Great Lord D
An advertising plug.
I just bought this game last week and I haven't experienced a single issue yet. Defintly worth every cent in my opinion.
Sorry but a lot of people have problem with the game...
When they have start use impulse, it was like hell... but it seem that the last version is good now...
Almost everyday, you have people who complain about sync with the online game... sure, it will be resolved, Stardock try always to resolve problem...
So, really problem exist... hey, no one game is perfect... the only way to resolve problem is asking help... no making a post like the original guy here...
The more i see post like this the more i think the people posting these types of issues pirated the game, and are trying to trick SD into giving him/her a valid CD Key. Not saying the OP did, but i see a pattern here with the "few" with problems like this.
As was said there are hundreds of thousands of Satisfied Customers with Sins. I am one of them. Sins never gave me any trouble at all except for a few sync errors which SD is fixing. Impulse never gave me a bit of trouble updating the game, and i use it for GC2 as well. There arent many games out there that look this good on low end hardware ether. Sins isnt perfect, but it is a hell of a lot better than some of the bigger name stuff out there.
I played Eve-Online for 3 years before it went all "alliance warfare" on us. Eve is not all that, and a bag of chips. 15 bucks a month so you are forced to join ether Goonfleet, or BoB, and have OTHERS tell you what to do, because you get absolutely NOWHERE in Eve if you dont. Or play solo, and get ganked every 5 minutes by packs of griefers. Solo piracy gets boring after a while. Even in dreads. Eve became a yawner after Acendant Frontier lost the BoB war, and i couldnt be a suicidal psycho in a caracal anymore.
i got the game shortly after it came out and only had 1 problem (besides the minidumps that everyone got) the problem was my computer was old and wouldnt run it because my computer was dying but when i got my new computer it worked fine exluding the minidumps which you could reduce by doing things like turning off ato save, restarting the game....there are more but dont want to go into it sense the problem which is rare anymore
Of course, the issues could not be on the OPs end - I had exactly the same problems (almost 12 months ago).
They were fixed by
1) Entering code EXACTLY as is on the manual (i.e. with the dashes included - a bit different to the usual boxes with dashes between them - hence why it failed the first time for me - I worked it out).
2) I then configured my router as per the request of the game. This isn't 100% their issue since you are in charge of YOUR network, not them. The alloy code is to try and help with this.
3) Support have been very good in getting back to me within a day or so (considering the time diff between there and here, I was getting replies that were past their end of business time...)
BTW - what do I do once my 14 day Eve trial runs out??? Pay more money, or keep playing Sins for free???
Clearly the OP did not try the Marza. Marza beat up Captain Kirk, even when he took his shirt off. I would like to clarify thats the 'old school' Captain Kirk, not the new 'Westley Crusher Love Diary' style Kirk.
Sorry about wasting all that potential Eve playing time.
well u no i think u should waste money i mean come on it isnt like sins is an AMAZING game or anything
Hack78 - thanks for the useful reply
Jupiter - you really didn't give us much to work with. What OS? What version of Impulse? What version of the game? What error messages for each issue? etc
Well, CD key problems can be one of three things:
1. You typed it wrong.
2. Something went wrong on Stardocks end with the key.
3. You bought a used copy.
If someone else already registered the key, you're out of luck. There was a giant thread recently about that issue. If it's the second one, support should be able to solve it.
Jupiter-Mining-Corps Lol im sorry if this isn't helping but you just failed the internet. First off he seems to know alot about having certain problems that don't coalesce in the least. If you have a cd key problem how are you updating to get on ICO in The first place to know about the long since past connection issues of 1.05. Since you just made an account today and literally complained 4 minutes later I find your opinions untasteful and frankly bull shit.
You sir are nothing but a troll probably from the SOASE hating EVE forums.
This is one big ROFL.
By the way EVE is just wicked.
