Hi all. I was wondering how a starbase's trade up grades at particular levels compairs to a planets trade port logistical structure. Is it worth having a trade port if you have a starbase with trade up grades. Does the income rate stack if you have both in 1 gravity well or is income only added from 1.
yup they stack
the better reason is to complete chains in nutral territory now
it seems that entrenchment has made it so nutrals no longer count as a chain wtihout a SB+tradeport
OK! thanks K33bz
It should be pointed out that with current pricing the Starbase tradeports are horrifically overpriced & the only real reason to buy them is to continue a chain through neutral territory. You should stick to level 1 too, on it's own level 1 starbase trade port upgrade takes 77 minutes to pay for itself, if you get both it takes 82.5 minutes to pay for itself. Not a great investment.
Stick to regular trade ports until it's worth a starbase continuing a chain... of course that's a lot more difficult to calculate since it depends on the number of tradeports you have, your research & how long your chain can potentially be to figure out if it's cost efficient... so just use your head on that one.
yeah, trade upgrades for SBs are pretty expensive for what you get. and you also have to research them. good for completing chains, but not too good as a money source per se. should be rebalanced imo.
I'm sure it will be i think those prices are all placeholders - in another post i tihnk in the modding section i made a quick mod with rebalanced prices which makes most things reasonable
a good idea, but I'd see a problem. you see, given that the number of upgrades is hard limited, you would want to prefer the more expensive upgrades instead of the cheaper, weaker ones. thus, you could keep the upgrade costs constant (maybe increase them with levels), but tweak the effects. for the current price, a 1,5 or so credit boost per level could be ok, after all it should be more expensive (per credit) than mere trade ports, because of the protection and flexibility. likewise, the squadron hangar need not necessarily become cheaper, but could house more fighters. and so on ...
at least I think that would be a better of creating balance, as the upgrades are only comparable on a relative cost-benefit ration, but on a cost basis also.
a lot of the time i find it heaper to upgrade a sb in nutrals with alleconomy and defense - as vasari i can over time make a fortune with a 1.5/s tradeport and 100 population and phase gate
Thanks people your info has been very helpful to me at least. Hopefully others can benifit also.
Sounds good, I like your thoughts on the squadron hanger also. If the SB's trade is adequate, cost effectiveness aside, a logistcal slot that would have been used for a trade port can be used on something else - research lab or military lab for instance. Tacticaly could make the difference in a game where planets aren't easily obtained. It do'se give that added flexability.
I actually use the trade port upgrade fairly often... Obviously in neutral gravwells to extend the length of the trade route, but also in say, colonies that have a trade income bonus... If I've already maxed out my civilan structure slots, I sometimes will add the trade port to the SB, just to get that one extra
