What happens if you disable Ultramon? We have had many issues with that software in the past conflicting with our skinning software.
I am having the same isssues here. I am using Vista Home Premium and I have an 8600 gt fatality edition. I have downloaded every codec that I could find but this problem has occured since I updated the deskscapes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 3 times and still no progress.
I have nvidia physx, nvidia media center extensions and also nvidia pure video. If you know of any conflicts with these nvidia products please let me know
If you installed more than one codec pack, that could be your problem.
Check out the trouble shooting tips on this page...look at the middle of the page under MPEG-2 Video Codec. There's a great tool named Installed codec made by Nirsoft that will help you diagnose your problem.
if i disable ultramon still nothing, i have since disabled every program i had running and also uninstalled and installed again
still nothing
intrestingly after uninstalling the purchased version i tryed the free one and all the dreams with that one work except the water one.
any ideas?
That means you have dynamic dream issues instead of video issues.
Try downloading and installing the file here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en
thanks but i already tried that, i have all those updates installed. and the version i have paid for still doesnt apply the wallpapers atall

tell that to the many people who have no issues with the program. This sort of statement doesn't win you any accolades, all it does it make you out to be an idiot. it seems some people who are having trouble automatically assume it's a problem with the actual software and not their computer and refuse to even acknowledge the fact that it may be their PC at fault. Yelling and screaming at the stardock techs and in the forums will get you no where. I know it can be frustrating but acting like a child is not the answer.
Where would someone using XP find the MPEG-2 codec needed to run deskscapes?
I googled and got many results.

I downloaded the tool and it found tons of Mpeg-2 codecs including one from Sonic plus I also have WinDVD 9 Plus which can play mpeg 2 files so not sure why on my system I just get a black wall paper
Hopefully when I switch from XP to Vista 64 it will work on the new system.
I found some as well...But upon using a codec checking tool it says its not compatible or something of that nature.
