Me and a close friend just got Sins of a Solar Empire after all the reviews from different gaming sites saying that it was an amazing experiance. I agree that the gameplay is amazing... in single player.
Online play though is riddled with desync's, disconnections, minidump, and errors of all kinds . It also seems like practicaly no one uses it. 152 ppl today got on and everyone was all excited because we finally had more than 150 players on. Seriously?! Red Alert 2 gets 3x that in a day and its like 10 years old.
Sins needs a totaly new online atmosphere and they need tell all their supposedly 500,000 owners that the new online is improved and usuable. Frankly they need to do it now no matter what the cost or I seriously fear that Sins or a Solar Empire will die off very soon leaving us nothing but Homeworld 2 and Masters of the Orion.
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT DEMANDING THAT SINS ONLINE BE FIXED WITHIN THE MONTH OF JANUARY
Lets make it our goal to rebirth the online gameplay and give this awsome game a shot at an expansion pack or further games.
I am formally demading that my online experiance be improved by the end of January. If this does not happen I will no longer purchase any games from Ironworks or Stardock and will STRONGLY urge my friends and to also ignore any further releases from these companies.
Signed...Fleet101
Didn't I just bag this thread out? First thing Fleet101 quit being a whinging bitch, second the company is called Ironclad the company logo is located bottom left of the webpage and last of all how many threads with the exact same crap have you spammed in the damn forum.
IF you want to improve your online experience learn how to program, and fix the problems yourself and release the fix, instead of having a big friggin cry about it. IF you are unwillingly to do that I hereby request that you have a coke and a smile and STFU.
Finally Fleet101 if you really think that threat is going to force a change I suggest you do this .
seriously, stfu fleet stop being such a loser there are other ways to do online than ICO and if you were intent on having good online play and not just posting this to try and get ppl mad and being a baby you would've found this out.
LMAO - Did you go to buy a TICKUT?
thanks again for a great post. so far no problem for few games but this again is 1.12. i had few games that went through all week with maybe 3games out of 7 being synced. another problem is that the game might go through but when you play a good game and then try to watch it so you can review your grand slam strategy then poooooof it minidumps me to desktop. plus few of my recorded games are not even recorded as it was played. there seems to be some conflict on maybe people who got auto record on or off or maybe something to do with setting wise since sins is suppose to handle a wide veriaty of machines.
I really don't think calling someone a whinging bitch or loser is appropriate, nor do I think picking up on the OPs mistake regarding the name of the developer is a valid line of argumentation against the OPs points. Second, asking the OP to programme a fix is extremley asinine as this is technically the responsibility of the devs.
The OP obviously likes the game and most of you posting insults fail to take on board his other point regarding a small multiplayer base given the amount of units that have shipped. This has been acknowledged by both Ironclad and Stardock who have stated they plan to try and rejuvenate multiplayer.
I don't think the OP is 'crying' and to be quite frank those throwing insults around are taking the role of the 'bully' imo --> and unless you are willing to recieve a fat lip often, its not the kind of behaviour that makes it in the real world but all to often becomes the preserve of keyboard warriors (often Americans and young males).
So, in summation, I think I will give +1 karma to the OP.
p.s.
I don't think the OP has spammed and looking at the timing of the two threads, it looks like a double post or something rather than an intentional spam. Second, it does not matter if there are other threads burried out there on this subject matter, the OP is well within his rights to make his own thread to express his opinion.
p.p.s
Perhaps a contributing factor to the low multiplayer player base could be the attitudes and behaviour of people on ICO and the forums as illustrated by Havoc, superfingers etc. There really are some vile racist, homophobic and bully types on ICO and these forums imo
Are you implying that game companies should no longer be responsible or feel any sort of responsibility for producing and maintaining a high quality product? Does this mean that from now on it would be acceptable for games to be released as half-finished, buggy betas because studios can count on the free labor of modders to fix them up and improve them?
It's bad enough that consolization is destroying many games (see Unreal Tournament 3). If game studios begin to believe that they can release half-finished betas as retail copies then PC gaming is doomed.
For those who can not tell I was being sarcastic and facetious in most parts of my post(s). To the carebears who agree, follow my actual suggestion which is to learn how to program and fix the problems even better create your own game or shut up. Creating threads, threatening to boycott doesn't fix the problems it adds to the problems.
"Second, asking the OP to programme a fix is extremley[sic] asinine as this is technically the responsibility of the devs."
While true in most respects, I have seen communities for other games fix bugs and assist the Devs in making the game more bug free and enjoyable. I would have been less prick-like if there were viable suggestions instead of the "we must band together and give Ironclad an ultimatum or we stop playing the game."
I have had a numerous minidumps, desynchs, and bizarre glitches when using ICO since the game came out, if you want to play with friends I suggest using Hamachii or any other virtual VPN software, it doesn't always stop the desynch bug or other problems but its a better suggestion than throwing an ultimatum around in a pathetic attempt to make the devs fix something they already trying to fix.
Fandangdo to clarify some points I am an Australia which rules out being American, I am way out of the young male bracket and anyone who lacks the foresight, common sense, or has view that they are god's gift to the world deserves to be flamed.
Fandangdo do you agree with the ultimatum that has been posted?
If you did have a thread on this before I'm sorry. I'm new to the forums and am just trying to understand why a game that has been out a whole year is so horrible online.
As for me I have followed ALL guidlines for the online multiplayer in the manual and the patches. AFTER I did all that and STILL had problems I decided to post a thread to get thoughts on this and hopfully get some action from Ironclad (sorry about that) and Stardock.
When I buy a game that says online multi, I expect online multi. When a company does not have this it simply takes away from the gamming experiance and just leads to hundreads of posts, as you say wimpering, lodging complaints about the online experiance being terrible. I still stand by my statement though. I will not buy any more of their products if they don't fix this.
So please next time you leave a post to me do it with a little class.
Creating threads, threatening to boycott doesn't fix the problems it adds to the problems.
Sorry but I have seen this work on CNC3 and Homeworld with great results if enough ppl get on board.
This is true that this tactic is nothing but a power to the ppl thing but still it works and it's clear that they arn't doing much about the problmes. As for suggestions, I am NOT a technical wizard and I shouldn't have to be. I purchased a product from ppl with degrees and experiance in networks and game designed and I am not going to try to fix it myself beyond what the game manual and official patch's have said to do.
What about my statment made me seem like that. I am simply saying if we all perchased a product it should work as advertised and if it doesn't then action by the players needs to be done. If u dissagree and belive that we the players should fix it ourselves thats one thing, but saying that I am pompus or lack common sense is just idiotic and shows your imaturity at dealing with other ppl online.
P.S sorry for any spelling errors (cause I'm sure you'll burn me for it)
I am perfectly happy with my SINGLE PLAYER experience. I will continue to buy and support Stardock / Ironlad products.
I understand that software development is a difficult and laborious task, and support the development team in their efforts to fix bugs OF THEIR CHOICE and at THEIR OWN SCHEDULE.
I am confident that they are aware of the desires of the community and that they will allocate their time appropriatly.
Thank you for actually giving a response to my post.
I am glad that they HAVE started a plan to get the online back. I was under the impression that nothing was being done about this issue.
I will admit that this things happen in smaller groups of online players more rampantly then in a larger base. Frankly, the first time I got on this forum I noticed this and wasn't supprised but rather dissapointed that no one was taking posts seriously which also may contribute to why Ironclad and Stardock have not thusfar patched the game effectivly for online.
Thanks again for the response.
Frankly I shouldn't have to go around downloading other ways to get online with my friends to play a game. No other company that have played games under has the issues and a game that has been out for a year with these issues still SHOULD make ppl mad.
Is my post strong and a devisive. YES! It was ment to be. But, that doesnt mean I want ppl comming in telling me to shut up and not actually giveing a response to the issues that I brought up.
I agree totally on your comment, but I personally will not support this product if they can't fix it soon. Perhaps a deadline of one month is rediculous you may be right.
I just feel like in the year 2009 this shouldn't be a problem when they made it back in feb 2008. It just seems like they are ignoring the problems in this game and have said," Yeah it was supposed to just be a single player game anyway." If that is so then please in the next patch just take off the online because it barley works anyway.
Would you not agree?
Your lack of knowledge of myself and superfingers is appalling and restorting to dubbing us vile racists, homophobic or bully types is incorrect and insulting since our view conflict with the carebear norm and I am not sure about superfingers but I have technical and programming experience because its what I do for a living.
Your tactic will not work here due to the fact Ironclad has what 9-10 staff and a few possible contractors unlike EA LA or Relic who have enough staff to build a decent size wall of bodies. Ironclad have stated numerous time they been trying to track down the source of the problem since launch and made some progress albeit quite slow.
Now I remember stating "For those who can not tell I was being sarcastic and facetious in most parts of my post(s)" I do not expect anyone to have the balls to go out learn how to program an efficent TCP/UDP netcode and intergrate it into the Iron Engine, it is not meant to be taken quite so literally. What was meant which is the "read between the lines" area which is if you are unable to do anything or unwillingly to do anything productive refrain from making threats. Your view that everything should work straight out of the box would be nice but is ultimately utopian not even the major software vendors can do it.
There are enough threads on the problems and creating two threads to attract attention to an already known issue lacks common sense and resulted in my original post that you should "LURK MORE" and create a more eductated thread that does not need to place ultimatums on the Devs. If that had happened I would have been more inclined to agree.
Final note I only corrected you in the company's name I have not bothered or cared to fix your post's grammar or spelling. I believe when I stated god's gift to the world more was inclined to insinuate more arrogance and ignorance.
Fleet my recromendation is please please please send all your minidumps and saved games to support@ironclad.com along with as much information as you can - your machine specs, your ISP, router, and a general location of where you like like Oakland, CA in an apartment or stuff like that.
The disconnects could be completly unreleasted to the game itself, it could be a conflict with something in the router that causes packets to get lost or dumped or even stranger things like the economy bug they just tracked down
If you really want the online experience to improve, then we all need to help them out as much as possible by giving them the logs and as much info as possible.
Alright, first;"supposedly 500,000 owners" - why should Stardock or any other party lie about this? I think they know a little bit better than anyone else how many bought their game. (By the way, I never play SoaSE online, and never will, due to the fact that a good game takes several hours, and I only play MP for that long at a nice LAN party - there, that said.)
"Red Alert 2 gets 3x that in a day and its like 10 years old." - What has that got to do with anything?! You can't possible expect to compare SoASE to RA2 in any possible way. (Except maybe the fact that they are PC RTS games.)There's so many different aspects that is an impossibility, end of line.
"Frankly they need to do it now no matter what the cost or I seriously fear that Sins or a Solar Empire will die off very soon leaving us nothing but Homeworld 2 and Masters of the Orion." - They NEED to do this, because you fear all poor gamers will be stuck with two other games? Read that sentence a couple of times, it simply doesn't sound right.
"Online play though is riddled with desync's, disconnections, minidump, and errors of all kinds." - Strange, why are people playing the game online if it's as buggy as you claim? Furthermore, I know of several people playing the game often and never getting any problems. Too bad for you if there's an issue with the game on your computer, contact the support with it instead of making a quite hilarious thread about huge problems with the game just based on your own experience with it.
"It also seems like practicaly no one uses it. 152 ppl today got on and everyone was all excited because we finally had more than 150 players on." - There is a difference between 0 (as in "no one") and 150. Also, as I mentioned; games with >2 players take a long time, a VERY long time, so this might be a reason for few people playing it online, not all have the time to spend for larger games.
"Sins needs a totaly new online atmosphere and they need tell all their supposedly 500,000 owners that the new online is improved and usuable." - Yet again, need this and need that, I think the developers know a bit better than you what the game needs and not. Suggestions are another thing, but then make them appear as such, and not petty demands.
"Lets make it our goal to rebirth the online gameplay..." - Oh, get on and play? You can't make other people play online if they don't want to, and then we get back to your demands from Stardock to improve the game to your details. Again, suggestions and bug reports are the way to go, inspire the developers to make new patches and fixes. Making demands, whining and all this crap isn't going to help...
I just find that developers who have had a game out for a year should have this stuff fixed already.
I will start to send replays of battles and any info I can to stardock and ironclad to help them fix it. My question though is will they even try??? I mean they releasing a mini expansion pack and yet these problems still exist.d
I think you miss the point of the petition all together though. Many people who complain about this post have said its just wimpering about problems. My issue is that these issues shouldn't exist. The more I play this game online the more I feel like I'm playing a beta for EA games or somthing.
If you find that these problems are not bad for you then I'm glad and I hope that your experiance with single player and any mulitplayer games you have is good. As for me I'll let this collect dust for a few months before picking it up again.
Thanks to all who posted on this thread!
WOW comparing EA to Ironclad LOL thats a bad choice Ironclad has shown they support for they game. EA errr server crashs games crashing and sometimes not working full stop EA ranking system always breaking should i go on?
i havent had a mini dump with Sins with the add-on ive had one and with a mod ive had one so in total 2 mini dumps Based on beta Add-on back which i have no reason to take part if i dont want to and mod i wished to try out and prove im not on some £1000 machine heres my specs
CPU AMD3000+ semprom 1.8Ghz
GFX Geforce 7600GS
2x 80gb HDD
2x 512mb ram
PSU is a 350watt which is the middle of dying (wont run BF2142 or Wic anymore)
whatever the problem is its on your system not the game
This is will be my final post on this crap.
You have been crying about already known issues and trying to apply your view on how software should be developed when it many circumstances it is impossible to have it 100% work on every possible system configuration under the sun. Saying that Ironclad does not care about the MP issues is poorly deduced, the expansion is there to gain additional revenue so they can continue to develop and maintain the game its basic business priciple.
Now for the my final joust, Fleet101 get an understanding on how businesses operates, learn about software development and game development. As I have said if you can add or suggest anything productive and constructive share it otherwise keep you unproductive whimpering to yourself.
Will the minidumps and specs help? I don't know but I know for a fact that if you don't try it won't be fixed.
The easiest way for you to send IC your specs is in the run box type "dxdiag" and that will pop up the directX diagnostic utility
from there it will take a few secodns to run the diagnostic and generate a report - my system freezes when it does that but whonce the paddles shock it back to life, there is a button at the bottom that says save all information
save that text file wherever you remember so you can include it as an attachment to the email as well.
LOL are you serious?????????????We pay for the game, we pay the developers salaries, and yet according to you we dont have the right to demand a WORKING product? Wow, its because of sheep like you the games industry is riddled with nothing but buggy games, because sheep like you just bend over and accept it.
If you pay for something, a game, a car, anything. You have the RIGHT to complain and demand that it works as advertised.Peoples idiocy is staggering..
if your using Xp go to Control panel/Admin tools/event view/applications look in there for an error report might be something has gone wrong in the background thats forced Sins to Crash its always easier to blame other people or companies but its harder for someone to admitt they just didnt look
I guess people can't read now days and use some form of analysis now days, Baleur read my other posts as that comment is explained twice. Its is whinging tards that wreck games now since you haven't added anything constructive or beneficial STFU.
Hilarious. You really got me for say 5 seconds. Cannot be serious, mh?
I mean do you formally demand a better sleeping experience from your bed manufacturer? Or a better personal taste experience from your coffee producer? No? Then why bother with posting here... no one cares. Just wait until the next patch comes out shortly after all devs have come back from their well-deserved holidays and in the meantime - if you cannot wait by any chance - help them by sending them bug reports and stuff.
