Me and a close friend just got Sins of a Solar Empire after all the reviews from different gaming sites saying that it was an amazing experiance. I agree that the gameplay is amazing... in single player.
Online play though is riddled with desync's, disconnections, minidump, and errors of all kinds . It also seems like practicaly no one uses it. 152 ppl today got on and everyone was all excited because we finally had more than 150 players on. Seriously?! Red Alert 2 gets 3x that in a day and its like 10 years old.
Sins needs a totaly new online atmosphere and they need tell all their supposedly 500,000 owners that the new online is improved and usuable. Frankly they need to do it now no matter what the cost or I seriously fear that Sins or a Solar Empire will die off very soon leaving us nothing but Homeworld 2 and Masters of the Orion.
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT DEMANDING THAT SINS ONLINE BE FIXED WITHIN THE MONTH OF JANUARY
Lets make it our goal to rebirth the online gameplay and give this awsome game a shot at an expansion pack or further games.
This thread is OFN, the issues are known and are being looked at. Heres a tip when you are on forums its called LURK MORE. I vote for this thread to be closed.
A side note you should leave your e-crusader zeal at the door.
I tend to agree with Fleet 101. It would be good if all of the online multiplayer problems--the minidumps, the desyncs, the hosting ability issues, and the ICO downtime--were fixed. Also, I do think that they have taken a toll on the game's online player counts.
However, I do understand that fixxing all of that requires an investment of pizza and latte-fueled manpower and it makes business sense to focus on the single player aspects of the game, especially on releasing expansions that people will pay for. Consequently, I don't expect addressing the online multiplayer issues to be a high priority.
Ok you have me there CenturionJixra. There are enough threads about the problems with desyncing and ICO, creating new threads does not fix the already known problems. From reading other threads about the same issues no one is really offering suggestions, I personally haven't seen anyone suggest quazal networking code (supreme commander and company of heroes) it wouldn't be practical in reality but it beats reading people bitch about the problems.
... serously please dont post comments to me ever again. You have been disrespectful and just a complete jerk on both posts.
It is not my job to suggest network code's and IP solutions and other tech items. ITS THEIR'S! if they do not want to put time into multiplayer then I suggest to just take it off in the next patch and just admit that they really must not care. I am serious though it this isn't fixed in some way or even taken off I will simply stop buying their products and I will still crusade for this over the comming days.
Lol nice comment. I just still belive that they should invest those pizzas and fix it.
Thanks for your reply.
I've played about 16 games on ICO and never had any disconnection problems - just lag from people with old comps who still like to try to jack their settings up and cross their fingers. Maybe I've just been lucky. I have tried to log in and it says disconnected from ICO so I know that for whatever reason ICO just goes down and is out of commission for a while and that this does happen while people are mid-game and is very frustrating - I don't know if they know the cause of the problem yet but I would like to see it fixed too. I also hope more come to the online multiplayer but I wouldn't bother comparing it to the more mainstream RTS games like Red Alert and hoping for the same numbers - this is an excellent game but more of a niche hybrid game - personally I'm hoping for quality over quantity - as long as people can connect to ICO, there can still be enough of a community of online players to always get a game going. For starters, check out the online tournament Ue-Carbon is trying to organize in the multiplayer threads.
Wow. ****ing service culture.
"I DEMAND you fix this problem!"
"Uh, okay, sure. We're trying our best but nothing seems to be working."
"I DEMAND YOU FIX IT RIGHT NOW!"
"Fine. Since you seem to know so much, why don't you help us figure out how?"
"It's not my job to fix the problem, that's yours!"
"Then STFU and let us do our jobs."
If you post a thread on ANYTHING, expect to get some negative feedback.
Demanding is a very harsh term when you don't know the sorce of the problem or how to fix it only the effects you experience beacuse of it however I do support the complete overhaul of Ironclad Online either rebuild it bottom up or get a third party to host the online play eg. gamespy.
I think there are 3 options for the devs to fix the online, Fix the bugs in the current hosting software and servers, re-design the hosting softare and the server, or get a third party to host it for you. they obviously have to choose one of the three or they are screwed beacuse the online now doesn't cut it and as sumpathetic as I am for the complexity of the solution somthing must be done.
lol! yeah it does come across that way.
What I really mean is that if its been out an entire year and they still havn't fixed it then they really havnt tried hard enough. Yet again today I was playing a game online with 4 ppl and we all dysnc after about an hour of gameplay. We had a good game going but after typeing eachother back and forth we relised that the pirates wern't doing the same things on our screans at all.
This is pathetic after one year they havnt fixed it. If you arn't angry about it and your fine with everything I guess thats cool but I have multipule online games that I have played in the past that have a much better experiance than this one and it's just disspointing because I really do like the overall gameplay, but the AI is too dumb to fight with all the time I need real ppl to chalenge me.
So yes I do still demand that they fix this because frankly IT IS THEIR JOB and they have had a year to fix it and still havent.
Games should be easy to play online in the year 2009. If they could do it back in 1999 why can't these guys figure it out 10 years later I mean seriously why arn't you upset?
P.S I'm 100% positive my computer can handle this game and that my internet ports are forwarded properly. I have followed all guildlines for online play listed in the manual and it patches.
Yes thats exactly what I think. After a year of work this should of been taken care of.
Thanks for the comment.
Wow... I just read every reply to thsi thread, and I am nto amused. While I am still new to ICO I have not encountered any of these probnlems. But it would seem they are numorous, and they should be taken care of. On the other hand Fleet101 you seem to come off... rather unpleasent. You double post, and demand things you have no understanding about. ALong with just blanently demanding for stuff you do not make any suggestions. I vote we let our friend Fleet here take controll of development and see how he handles it. Who is with me?
And just a side note, The game was severly under hyped. That is why the amount of players on ICO for it seem so lacking. C&C is a very popular RTS, and has been for a long time. Same with any of Blizzard's games such as Starcraft. Now with all the 08 game awards over with, or nearly over with, this game is wuinning a boat load of them. SO hoepfully that will hype it up a fair bit.
ROFLOL I am!
Well what do you call the patches then? The patchs fixed a lot of online issues as well as balance problems since then the rate of desincs have gone down untill they put Alloy in which is causing some of the multiplayer problems
Having been here since the 2nd Beta, I tend to think that online play has come a long way. Being one of people who have that old comp I don't cross my fingers and slow everyone down, I just stay off. I like to play sins, but people complain about everything. Some examples are illum spam, seige frig. spam, advent overpowered, all of these things are things that the devs may have to look at and per harps re-evaluate, taking time away from fixing ICO.I tend to go on occasionally, but keep in mind that this is still a relatively new, widely dispersed game with engrossing content. I can't really sit down for a 3hr online game. The multplayer part even has a SAVE option, that I have used and it works wonderfully. One thing fleet101 that you should consider is that the devs are extremely open to suggestions. While I think that there are problems with the online system they are working on it and need no more prodding. I think it was good of you to post something, however keep in mind, if you attack someone you are unlikely to get a happy response.
sorry, my post highlighted itself.
As has been said by others, a petition is not necessary. IC has been working on a new build of ICO since 1.12 to sort the periodic issues it has been having of late. They've even gone so far as to dedicate everyone for a whole weekend to fixing one sync bug. They are a very small company and are already doing everything they can to resolve any standing issues.
As well, there's no need to double-post the thread.
Are there problems? Yes. Are they working on fixing them? Yes. Will it be to everyones liking? No, you can't please everyone. IC is doing a great job, and they have acknowledged the issues previously. I am personally looking forward to the new ICO build.
How's the White Dot Problem coming? Apparently it's been reported for at least 6 months.
Um...what is the White Dot Problem?
I have AA on I haven't noticed it, what cards have been reported having the problem?
You know, I would have mentioned this earlier but it didn't occur to me...
TC, Ironclad provides for your convenience a multiplayer service, robust technical support, and unusually frequent content updates all free of additional charge. That's right, they don't charge you for any of their continued support apart from whatever you paid for Sins in the first place. You are damned lucky to get any of this at all, even with bugs. So before you go demanding a mile for the inch IC's given you, how about you show a little gratitude first?
Not really. We aren't getting new content.
Bug fixes and technical support: We are perfectly within our rights to expect something that we bought that turns out broken to be fixed for free (or replaced free of charge) by the vendor.
Whatever new stuff is offered to us, expansions and whatever, we pay for.
So no, I am not going to buy a broken item and then kiss the feet of the guy for being nice enough to sell it to me at all in the first place. I'm going to complain about it and trust that he'll fix it, and not charge me for daring to want a working product.
Enough that I can't recall them all from memory.
A wild guess is the AA algorithm implemenation is slightly off.
