I am looking to get into a good MMORPG. I have played many and obviously didn't like something about them.
Before I go any further,
WoW sucks, played it, don't mention it. I have also played FFXI, GW, SotNW (GE), Saga, and a bunch of F2Ps. I am currently trying Perfect World, yes I speak a little Mandarin, but the verdict is still out on it.
So my questions really is:
What do you recommend and WHY DO YOU LIKE IT?

I used to play WoW. Quit at level 44 after realizing it was the same sh*t over and over again (don't yell at me that I haven't played the game yet because I didn't get to level 80. People who argue that are retards. I spend 4 days ingame getting to level 40, level 80 is probably more like a week or two. No thanks to wasting two weeks of my life to play a game).
EvE put me to sleep, and games where even the Devs are corrupt are retarded.
The Star Trek, KOTOR, and Warhammer 40k mmo's I'll try, but I have a feeling atleast two of them will crash and burn (the KOTOR one especially). And it's not like any of those are coming out in the next year or two

I have pretty much tried them all. first one was SWG when it first came out it was cool but then nah got borad with it. Played wow few years ago after 8 months i got so borad with the game that I would only log in play for 15 and then log out. The other one I got into was Age of Connan I was exicted cause it was fresh and bloody and voilant but thats last 2 months same with hell gate london. I dont know why but i gues I am on the fence when it comes to MMORPGs. what i mean is I like them i like the idea, but i cant get into them they end up getting boring. I have also played alot others I remeber I went on a mmorpg quest looking for one for me. No luck.
I am excite about the stargate mmo and star trek mmo. I will end up play those then end up hating them.

Yeah, MMOs are not for everyone. I get bored of non-MMO games. I am really hooked on EVE though.
It is the complexity of it that I enjoy. I also figured if anyone else is reading this because they are interested in people's MMO opinions, what I would help by saying is if you want to try EVE PM me your email and I can send you a buddy pass, it lets you play 1 week longer for free than a normal one would. Also, I have a corp that I run now, so I can have you join it, maybe even give you some free isk.

WoW is the best, by such a wide margin that it's ridiculous.
If you don't like WoW, maybe the genre isn't for you. Maybe you just didn't try it long enough.
To really get a feel for any MMORPG, you need to play for about a month solid, getting a few characters developed enough to get a solid feel for the gameplay. MMORPGs are simply too complex compared to other games and require a experimentation to truly be able to speak about them.
For 2nd tier MMORPGs, LOTRO is solid and enjoyable, EQ2 is good. I couldn't get into WAR but I guess it might be considered here. I never tried AoC either since it was obviously a steaming pile at release. VGSOH was abysimal at release but cleaned up to be OK, and has some really good class designs. It might be below 2nd tier though.
Dungeon Runners is a good and humorous pseudo-MMORPG if you don't want to pay for the best entertainment value in existence (MMORPG subs).

i agree with eviliron, but there are still good games that have a dance feature just for fun, rohan and a few others, i think shihia or however it is spelled, anyway, also wow looks like a cartoon. a real good mmo needs to have people that actually look real, that makes it much better
nah voqar wow isnt that great and I gave it 8 months be for just getting sick of it i have played beter.
SWG was beter befor they killed it but from what I have read recently it sounds as if wow has been so watered down thats just stupid now. I dont like they idea where it takes nothing to get to the max level.I agree with gamerking and eviliron

anyone an old swg member back befor they nerfed jedis. I rember you had to be lucky to become a jedi amd of your jedi died game over man that was hard core.
Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's bad. And it's definetely not "for kids"... I know ALOT of people who play it, and they are ALL 25+, so your remark is just about as significant as a fart in deep space. The truth is simply that you don't like it, and there's nothing wrong with that, I just don't understand the reason why people feel they need to bash on things they don't like... You jealous because some people enjoy playing the worlds most popular MMORPG while you don't?
Another game you might want to consider is Runes of Magic. It is free to download and play. They make their money if you buy stuff with real money (horse, potions, housing, furniture, etc...)

It is still in beta. It has taken many ideas from WoW, plus added a few more into the mix. I am not saying it is better than WoW, it obviously has a much smaller budget. But it is free and decent.

why would I be jealous I am not jealous of a game I dont care about. Again I gave wow a big chance infact I liked it alot when I first played it. It just got boring I found my self logging in and running about for about 30 mins and then shutting it off so I like bashing it becouse of it popularty and becouse I can. so calling me jealous of this game well you bit it best as "significant as a fart in deep space" and becouse of your reaction I now feel even more of a need to bad mouth wow.

wanna plays thease games eh then maybe you can help remind me play it this game few years ago it was vary cartoonish..... anime gah this was years ago I cant even rember........ it was a top down ...100% free lol nah I just was mess with ya. just got tired of here the game get nerfed down. When I heared like 2-3 differnt times they were going to make it easier to max out I dont like that at all. Have any of you played SWG befor they made it where everyone could be a jedi. I remember Playing it and people would sit around and watch jedi duels cause they were so rare. The whole fact that if your jedi died that was it no more jedi. Gah I remeber that game got so nerfed down it was unplayable.
Unfortunately most people don't appreciate long and tedious grinds, they don't like hard games either. So, they make a hard game, get subscribers up to the point where the only people interested in playing the game already are. The only way to get more subscribers is to make the game easier...
The problem is that game companies don't see a fixed amount of subscribers as profit. If the amount of subscribers is not continuously *increasing*, the game is failing. It's like a world where one sold box equals one customer less likely to buy the game (again). Which may be accurate for offline games, but certainly doesn't apply to online gaming.
