That looks really neat, cool design! But what's that ... Bubble under the main structure? In the third screen it's attached by some energy beam, which isn't there in the first shot.

humm if you look closer you can see the bubble you speak of in the first pic but i cant see the green energy beam
as a matter of fact, I think it IS there in all shots. it seems like this is just the way the starbase is, de facto two elements. maybe that is part of what makes it so special.
in another picture it looks different again (check the link or look below )
perhaps it has something to do how you specialice your base or what skills you use/choose
is it that different? it's just another perspective. probably the same broadcast tower we saw in pic two in the background. the two parts may be a bit further apart and there is no energy line linking them, but that's about it. other than that I don't see how they look different.
I mean maybe this baby is like the galaxy class of star trek. part of it can detach itself and fly around, who knows?

I don't see the actual phase gate structure, but I do see the effect that looks like the phase gate one. I think. that may be it. the vasari base either comes with a functional phase gate or can be equipped with one. which would be really convenienty considering you can set this thing up even in enemy grav wells. and it kinda makes sense lore-wise. that would totally rock.
i was just refering to the...whatever it is...thing between the two structures.
btw, i probably should add that i did not post ALL pictures but linked to them in my first post.
that would definitely fit the vasari, still my guess is that it really depends how you evolve your base (due to the fact that it looks different in some of the pics) - who knows though, i dont think the dev's are gonna spoil it ^^

Hm, reading all the posts, I think the developers are having fun, torturing the lot of us... Most probably, they are reading this and think: "Man, guys! If you only knew..." and laughing out loud in glee...
First the TEC star base was revealed... Then the Vasari one with the speculated phase gate option... I bet in a week or so, we'll hear about the Advent mind crunching star base...

Has any one noticed that there are TEC structures in place as well and the planet has shields up???? CAN THIS THING MOVE!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I'm ten years old waiting for Christmas morning again...
You can build starbases any where you want.So it's possible to build a starbase in enemy gravity wells.
my opinion on the central thing: The Starbase has multiple modes of operation it can use (all of which have the guns active); 1) phase gate mode; 2)high-power mode [essentially a sooped up version of the Kortul Devastator's Power surge]; 3) nanite mode [repairing and destructive are depoyed]; 4) factory mode; 5) travel mode. each of these has a graphic that displays in the central span. the phase gate one - the phase ring; high-power one - the green "electricity"; etc.
it's possible that they have each of the individual races cap ship level 6 abilities (its only the Marauder's stabilize phase space ability that I'm going off of here)
or a planetary ability that remotely builds/calls it in?( since by the time you've built it, the battle would probably be over)
There is a new ship class, called like Heavy Constructor or something like that. Don't quote me cause I'm not sure of the name but I remember them saying of it somewhere...
